Really??? That's as offensive as the C word??

I thought it was like calling someone an ass! I've been calling people this for years and no one has ever said anything - or been offended!

I'm really hoping it's another one of those different country things - it means one thing here in Oz and something else overseas.

I hate the C word, but as for tw*t I call my hubby/brothers/ even my Dad at times it - to me it's just another word to say that they're annoying me.  :D

All our bags are packed and we're ready to go! Looking forward to an 8-day vacation with hubs and kids at Osaka starting tomorrow. Am actually more excited about the weather there, a cool 8-18C vs our scorching 30-34C here  :P

Might not be able to check in here as often as i'd like so talk to you guys later and take care!
 :-*
Have a great time.  :-*

So much for a relaxing weekend.

We had a wedding all day yesterday and I've woken up today already losing an hour due to the clocks going forward.   >:(

On top of that, we are off to the In Laws this afternoon for Easter dinner.

Do these people not realise I have stories to read and people to talk to??   :P

That sucks! If it's not work stealing our reading and chatting time, it's friends and family! How dare they!!!

And watch your language - or just tell them you're talking Australian and say whatever you like!  :D

My mother never swears. My father never not swears. As a kid, I just knew that those were daddy words and not to say them. The worst thing my mother would say was "crikey" - and I thought it was the most vulgar and offensive word you could say! For some reason, I thought it was that part of the female anatomy that those other words refer to!

Wikipedia has this definition:

The word twat has various functions. It is a vulgar synonym for the human vulva,[1] but is more widely used as a derogatory epithet, especially in British English.

Although sometimes used as a reference to the female genitalia, the word twat is more often used in various other ways:
As a derogatory insult, a pejorative meaning a fool, a stronger alternative to the word twit - 'He can be a complete twat' (often used in the UK)

and this picture:

How do you pronounce it - with an "a" as in "hat", or an "o" as in "hot"? Apparently both are "acceptable"  :D :D :D

Pronouncing it with an A makes it sound ruder - I only pronounce it with an O when my younger nieces and nephews are around.  :D

Once again, your research skills astound me!

I pronounce it with an a.

I'm going to try the Aussie excuse the next time I accidentally swear in front of my Mum.  It won't be the T word though - I like my head being on my shoulders!

See - I think it's the other way round! But maybe that's the difference in accents.

With an A, it just sounds like prat, and that just sounds very Bridget Jones/Hugh Grant/Notting Hill.

Yep - just blame me!

Somehow it's always my fault when my nieces and nephews do something wrong - even though I only see them once or twice a year!

Now that you've said that, I'm gonna be thinking about a floppy haired prat aka Hugh Grant every time I say the word twat.  :P

Oh dear. I have to admit to having a horribly foul mouth - I don't use the T word, but only because I have much more fun with other words :D My family are Irish, so growing up every second word I heard was a curse word. I'm good at censoring myself when I need to, though some of the words that come out of my mouth then combined with my accent make me sound very posh indeed (the shame!). It's not a difference in language as much as it's Rickell being uptight ;)

Ok how does that work? Saying twat with an O? OMG I never in my life thought I would ask that question! When I curse I usually do it in Spanish. My mom still tells me that a proper lady does not curse, you would Imagine that after years her of telling me and me doing nothing about it she would stop, but she doesn't.  :D

It's kind of bizarre to me, to see (or read) how the other side of the world lives. Does this happen to anybody else?

I have just started Nicknames and Rumors by suitablyironicmoniker - has anyone read this?
