I see what you guys mean about thinking of WIPs more like a weekly tv show or soap opera.   Like someone else said if there was a guarantee that it would finish then I think I could get into reading them.   I also think that really long fics like CIWA may have been better if read as a WIP.  I just couldn't get into that one and I really wanted to.  It was just soooo long.

Astro - thanks for the heads up on the Maze Runner series.  That looks REALLY good.  I hadn't heard of it before and I like to consider myself "in the know"! LOL

So, are these vampires/canon?  or just same couples?  I couldn't tell from the blurbs.  I'm always on the prowl for fics that are completely canon with vamps and same couples.

I believe all three of those are AH canon couples. At least the two I read are (Pocket change and Paper Cutouts)

Thank you! The vamp ones don't seem near as popular, thus my trouble finding recommendations for good ones. :)

Here are a few to look into...   I'm awful at knowing what age range is appropriate though, but I think they are young adult mostly.

Wool Omnibus (sort of hunger games like, I thought it was good)
Eragon (I read these forever ago, fantasy book about dragons etc)
Bartimaeus Triology (really liked these, again, years ago)
Angelfall: Penryn & The End of Days (LOVED THIS BOOK!!! Everybody should read it!!)
Hush Hush (about Angels, great series)
City of Bones (another great series, very popular)
Trylle Trilogy (loved this one too, about trolls, but pretty trolls LOL)
Stardust by Neil Gaiman (so much better than the movie)
Significance by Shelly Crane
Ender's Game
The Golden Compass

I haven't read these next 3, but I see them recommended a LOT:
Matched
Delirium
Graceling

Ooh yes we both loved Angelfall, and are very impatiently awaiting the sequel!

You're right, they aren't as popular. I think it's difficult to find a lot of well-written, interesting vampward stories that have some originality apart from the world S. Meyer created. I read a couple but to be honest? I don't think I ever finished one vampward. I got very close on a couple (Creature of Habit, for example) but I just always got so bored with them.

Human Edward for me in AH fics and vamp anyone else in vampfics.

And With Thee Fade Away was good, differenty than Meyer's vamps. I haven't finished many vampwards either.

I also liked The Decision by windchymes and Broken Angel by drotuno, but that's the one with SO many lemons.

I just realized another reason why WIPs are so hard for me. In the past when its been a story that updates regularly on a certain day of the week, like every Wednesday - when that last chapter ends its bittersweet because then I realize I won't get to look forward to more chapters of it every Wednesday. Kind of like when your favorite TV series ends.

Ah yes, I forgot about And with thee fade away. I actually finished that one but man, I wasn't impressed to be honest. It just lacked something to me....was a bit boring.

I remember you mentioning the crazy amount of lemons in drotuno's fic, did you ever read the others (there were others that followed that one, right?)

With Thee Fade Away blew me away, It was so unexpected and I find that refreshing not your usual pairings and I just think It's a really good fic and it's one of my faves, I think I should read it again.

And Broken Angel I never got anywhere near the lemons I stopped reading in chapter two or maybe it was the first one I just never  went back but if it's good maybe I should give it a try.

No, I kinda suck at finishing fix series, they just don't hold me like real series do for some reason. If I go back to any series it'll be Gravity. I loved the first one, much more than Broken Angel.

I read this such a long time ago - it was quite early on in my ff addiction, I don't think I'd ever read anything like this before (the abuse, the sex, etc) and I think it was probably car-wreck-reading for me - I wanted to look away, but just couldn't.

Same think happened to me up to a point, but one day I was like "Maria, get real, you have all these great fics and books waiting for you, why are you still reading cr@p?" (And I am sorry for being harsh with the author, but she (or is it a he...?) gave me the feeling of being almost forced to write disturbing scenes into the plot, without an actual point to them, since Bella actually comes out pretty unaffected
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
The emotional aspects of the story were simply not there. And that was the worst part of the story. It was like a really bad thriller :P

Nope - a Bloody Mary is breakfast food!

That makes me sound like a raging alco! I'm not really  ;)

Next time you have a late breakfast/brunch, try a Bloody Mary - then, you'll see what I mean. Sometimes, I'll even do a Virgin Mary - can't stand tomato juice on its own, but with all the seasonings and lots of ice - yum!

And don't forget a good squeeze of lime - quite a lot of recipes forget that, but it really makes a difference.

*adds tomato juice to shopping list*

There is no concept of brunch in Greece. And when I have "breakfast" with friends, we mostly mean "a lot of coffee and things that go well with it" :P

But I am tempted to try more of it during my summer holidays. It is always hot and sunny, there is always time for something cooling.

With Thee Fade Away might be my favorite Vampward story EVER written. (along with Lions Eat Lambs by Raggdolly, but that is not a romance story, so...)

I like canon vampires (like actuall canon, not SM canon :P) so when I read a vampire fanfic, those are the ones I prefer.

I agree 100%! For once Edward behaves and talks not like 17-year0old teenager, but like a 100-year-old vampire that he is. Though in With Thee They Fade Away the ending was messed up (
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
) and there were plotholes, as far as I remember. But the whole story was very well written.

And I loved Lions Eat Lambs too. Waiting for the sequel  :)

That's it!!! What you put in your spoiler, that will turn me off of a vamp fic faster than anything else. I wont start one if I know ahead of time that's how it ends up. I did like her Jasper a lot, though.

Ah, im the same. By the time I finish with the first fic, im ready for something new, a new ‘Chase' and build up. Is the Gravity series by drotuno?

I thought the ending of the book was so beautiful!  When I found out the next book wasn't coming out for nearly a year I was not happy!  LOL  I can't wait to get my hands on the next one.   You know, I think this was her first ever book if I remember correctly.  Wow!

Ok, so looks like lots of people recommend And With The Fade Away.   So, it has vampires, thats good!  Are they all the same couple pairings?  I have to have ExB! ;-)

Is Lions Eat Lambs a stand alone or do you really need the sequel to enjoy the first?  Are they vamps with an ExB pairing? ;-)

It's stand alone, if I remember correctly. The sequel is as of yet incomplete. Um.. I definitely wouldn't say there's an ExB pairing, though. It's a horror fic. Give the first chapter a go, maybe - it's only short and I haven't seen anything else like it.

Do you (or anyone else who reads similar stuff)have any more recs like Divergent/Insurgent, stuff similar to Hunger Games? I'm trying to line my daughter up some stuff for summer. She's not a huge fan of romance, but she loved Hunger Games, Cinder and Scarlett by Marissa Meyer, and the Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa. She's 16, but with her disabilities, she reads a bit younger, so I'd like to keep it in the YA years.

Have you read anything by Cornelia Funke? Inkheart trilogy, Thief Lord, Reckless... she is an amazing writer and me and my son enjoy her books a lot.

And the Evermore books by Alyson Noel... I didn't like them, the heroine annoyed me but for a teenager it would be OK, I think.

The Edelstein (gemstone) trilogy by Kerstin Gier (Ruby Red is the first book and the only one I found on tuebl...) is said to be very good.

Matched/Crossed/Reached by Ally Condie is highly rec'd here.

I'm there with you. My son (11yo) finished all Harry Potter books and all Greg's diaries and whatever we have at home to read for him. Any ideas what to give him next? Just no romance! He's a great reader but girls still creep himout...  ;)

You know that's exactly how I read as well! But sometimes I actually read some Vampward *shocking!*...

Atlas shrugged by Jeesiechreesie should not be forgotten in that category and I've recently rec'd a story here that I liked (Twelve months by SassyK).

But I really really hate all those New Moon alternatives, where Edward stays away for 100 years, Bella gets changed anyway (preferably by her own hybrid kids Edward impregnated her with before he ran...), then for some odd reason everybody ends up in Forks again and they just fall into each others arms and he is forgiven instantly! I mean, WTH? I thought in the "real" New Moon Edward got away very very easy, but those story are just ridiculous!  >:( *rant over*

  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
After Actorward, I love a good Vampward
I'm currently rereading Once Bitten - I read it as a WIP and always wanted to go back and read it as a whole story You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
Edward doesn't make it through Biology LOL!  Otherwise starts as canon.

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login  The Red Eye - this is cute  It's important for any private investigator to maintain a good relationship with local law enforcement and it's representatives. Therefore, I am always cooperative and polite with Chief Swan. Also, I try not to drink his daughter Bella's blood.  Canon couples.

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - Vampire in the Basement.  I really liked this one as well.  Doesn't start out canon, but there are canon couples in the end.

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - one of my favs.  Started as a one-shot and just got better LOL!

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - This is sweet with canon characters and couples.  But starts when Bella is older.

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - this is a little different - it is more standard in that vamps don't have to kill - though mostly they do.  And Edward is not originally with the Cullens. I enjoyed it though.

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - Edward is a doctor in this one & Bella is dying.  Canon couples

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - Also when Edward doesn't um, leave, before biting Bella.  Canon couples eventually.

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - A mating fic.  Bella is in College when she meets Edward.  Canon Couples if I remember correctly.  She doesn't get turned right away.

I also loved the Broken Angel series - but I had to skim through the lemons...a lot.  I understood them though.  They go with the, "It took 10 years before we could be around Rose and Emmett"  But it gets better in the next stories.  The rest of the story is great.  Also in book 2 you get to meet Demetri, sigh.  He is a good guy in this one.

This also has some good stories I have not yet read and some I have but couldn't finish.  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
