I don't really drink any alcohol. If I do I tend to go all out, so not really good. I love vanilla vodka with apple or cranberry juice, daiquiris, and the like. I love cider too, and the occasional wine and champaign/ sparkling white.

I can't stand cider! A few friends came over one night last year and we decided to find out why ciders are so popular at the moment. We bought 24 different types (stubby size) and every single one tasted like piss! Most ended up down the sink.

The only alcohol I have found lately that doesn't kill me is Cake Vodka mixed with orange juice, tastes just like my mama's orange pound cake!

Ok folks, I'm about to go to bed and play fic eeeny meeny miney moe, wish me luck!

Cake vodka? I've seen that on pinterest, but I don't think you can get it here yet. I don't like artificial vanilla flavoured things.
I did see Whipped Cream flavoured vodka but I'm not brave enough to try it. For some reason, it makes me think of something else that is often described in twific as "creamy"

I'm funny about drinking.  I rarely drink when we go out.  I drink more at home because I'm a cheap drunk. One drink and I'm giggly, the second and I'm asleep.  So I usually will be the designated driver.  And at home? Yeah, usually just a glass of wine with dinner.  ;D

I know you won't believe me, but I rarely drink when I'm out. I have to drive because taxis add $100 to a night out, or I'm the DD too.

And prior to about a year ago, I never drank by myself, so living alone, I hardly ever had a drink unless I was spending the night at friends'. I do have the occasional drink on my own now, but it is occasional - not even once a week usually.

Ahh. I still don't like the fake sweeteners though, but if normal water makes you ill then at least there is something out there to help you re-hydrate. We are opposites, as pretty much any other drink apart from water or watered down fruit juice makes me ill. I think it's all the sugar in them.

Lemonade here is usually a soft drink, clear lemon flavoured bubbly sugar water (Like sprite or schweppes), not the real thing made with lemons, water and sugar unfortunately. It's disgusting, the only soft drink I ever even entertain the idea of though funnily enough though is fizzy lemon squash like Solo or Pub Squash. But even the thought sends my stomach rolling now...

I do like ginger beer - I like anything ginger! - but I don't even walk down the soft drink aisle in the supermarket usually so unless I'm entertaining, I just don't even think to buy soft drink.

So when in fics writers refer to lemonade are they not talking about a soft drink? Sometimes the differences in food names leave me stumped. It would be good if someone could tell me what the heck a ziti is (Sounds like the American name for a pimple). Haha. And I had to look up Arugula, we call that rocket. And then the ones I know, what you call cilantro we call coriander, and what you call Bell Peppers we call capsicum. And almost anything you call ' winter squash' we call pumpkin. Haha.

And what the yanks call pumpkin isn't really like our pumpkins. The ones you carve at Halloween - we don't get them here. Ours are much fleshier. Roast pumpkin is one of my fave veges.

For the last ten years I was either pregnant or nursing (or both) so my alcohol tolerance is extremely low now. One glass of wine and I'm done... Hubby thinks it's funny  >:(

My alcohol tolerance was better when I was 17! Dammit... I need practise...

During our vacation I discovered vodca caramel. Yum. But I don't think it will be available here and our duty free level was more than streched... Why don't children count for the amount of alcohol? They are the reason we need it!

Anyone of you read that?

What's funny is that depending on where you are in the US, it might be called something different.  In parts, all soda drinks - fizzy sugar drinks like your lemonade - are called colas. In California, we'd call it a soda because it's made with soda water. I think in the midwest it is all "pop" - probably short for soda pop.

But what we all call lemonade? Yeah, lemon juice, sugar & water.

I always find it interesting how things can be so different every where  ;D

I have never in my life seen a lemonade stand, except on American tv shows. If an Aussie kid set up a lemonade stand, they'd just be selling cans of soft drink!

We call the green parts (stems and leaves) cilantro. But the seeds we call coriander.  Recipes call for crushed coriander or ground coriander.  They are not interchangeable as they taste completely different.

It's all coriander here - leaves, stems, roots, the lot.

I have the most amazing coriander martini when I was in Vietnam - coriander, lemon grass and ginger. I wish I'd written down the recipe!

And as usual, I'm here talking to myself like a crazy person.

So, even though it's not even 9pm, I'm heading to bed. I got off my Carano path and am reading Transcendence by Savage You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Ehd doesn't know how the woman ended up in his pit trap, he just knows he wants to protect her and provide for her in any way he can. She sure does make a lot of noises with her mouth, though. Caveward is born!

I put it off for a long time because it sounded really silly, but I'm liking it more than I thought I would.

I feel the same way about beer, it's gross! And I'm coeliac, so cider is a sure fire GF drink. I don't mind the taste, in fact some brands I rather enjoy, and funnily enough for me who doesn't have a sweet tooth at all, it's the sweeter wines and ciders that I like. And I love port and my Granny's Damson Gin (and Sloe Gin). My granny could drink anyone under the table, that lady is a legend with the booze. She's like Legolas from LotR, when everyone else is passed out drunk, even the dwarves she's only got the tingles.

All this talk of alcohol is making me thirsty and a tiny bit jealous that I can't drink atm - especially as my birthday's  in 12 days.  :(
The last time I drank was 2 weeks after I found I was pregnant again - thank goodness I expressed enough milk for Saxon to last him nearly 2 days as it took me a "major" session with some friends to realise I can't drink more than a few glasses of my fave drink and not get away with it.  :D
Mind you my favourite drink is - Vodka, Whiskey and Tequila all the in the same glass.  :o
Which was probably at 18 was fine, not so much now.  :D

Just finished You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login by bornonhalloween - I quite liked it, at times I thought "I wouldn't mind playing golf!" and then I remember that it's like one of the most boring-est sports in the world.  :D

I'm gonna start CaraNo - Our Yellow House - it's been on my TBR list for ages, so I thought I oughta read it.  :)

It's been a while since we've talk about this, how about fanfic pet peeves? What do you find done so often in fic that drives you batty?

Lucylu and I were discussing the over kill so many authors do on the Cullens in regards to Bella. In so many vamp AU stories, we get "my daughter, my baby, my sister" SOO much. If they loved her so much, they wouldn't have left her. Sure, they cared for Bella, but too many fic authors over do the love.

On the family thing, how come fic Cullens so often call Carlisle and Esme mom and dad? Did they EVER do that in the books? They were their adoptive parents to the public, and yes, parental figures, but I don't remember ever seeing anyone call them mom and dad, they were always just Carlisle and Esme.

Orbs. Chocolate orbs, golden orbs, crimson orbs. Eyes, people. Eyes.

Bella going from meek and quiet to cussing like a sailor. Yeah, I know lots of people found Meyer's work to be a bit too "Mormon", but there should at least be SOME explanation on why Bella talked like a schoolgirl in the books and like a sailor in the fics, even just a throwaway "must have picked it  up spending so much time with teenage werewolves!"

"My angel". Why do so many of the guys have to call Bella "my angel"? Seriously? Seems like every fic I read now, either Edward or Jasper is calling Bella his Angel.

I'm sure I'll think of more, but for now I'm off to the dentist, but I wanna hear your pet peeves!

That is one of major pet peeves as well - over explaining eyes.
It's not like peeps go around in RL saying "You have lovely Emerald orbs, babe!"  :D

Talking of eyes, I've noticed in some fics some peeps spell eyeing as eying which is the proper way of spelling it?
As I was reading a fic the other week and the author was spelling it both ways - which just annoyed me after a while.

I agree with all of those, especially the first one. And it ties in with one of my others.

I HATE it when seconds after the Cullens meet poor Bella they are instant friends and offering to take her on Holidays or buy her a wardrobe full of expensive clothes. Uh, no, I don't think so. Most friends wouldn't drop thousands of dollars on each other let alone someone you just met! Drives me nuts! At least have a bit of friendship development, people don't instantly connect the second they lay eyes on someone.

Oh yeah, and the obsession with eyes. GET OVER THE EYES PEOPLE! Apart from Edward thinking Bella's eyes are pools (Orbs) of chocolate he'd like to wallow in like a pig and Bella thinking Edwards eyes are the most gorgeous shade of emerald that the next second will be forest and then jade (and then suck you in like a black hole and never let you leave). The worst is when you get the simpering "ask me what my favourite colour is"/ "I looked into his glorious eyes and green was suddenly my favourite colour in the whole f-ing world".

Oh my, yes. The fluffy, overwhelming using of the pet names for Bella is nauseating tbh. The worst one? When Emmett kept calling B "Sissy" in a fic I flounced on. And Carlisle and Esme kept saying "My baby or My baby girl, my little girl". I mean, seriously. That's a name that little kids use in reference to a sister, not a big, bad very old vampire. And like Matron said, most of the fics I see this in are NM AU, where it picks up after E ditches B. Everything before that is supposed to be Canon so....where the hell did the pet names come from? And out of no where.

I cannot stand when the vamps call E and C mom and dad for all the points you made, Matron. Regardless of the what they sell to the public, they are all vampires, some very old. It doesn't make sense and it's annoying.

Orbs is right up there with pools of chocolate. Jesus. Like you said, they are eyes. Just say eyes. We don't need a thesaurus-type word for eyes.

I know I'll have some to add after I'm fully caffeinated lol.

And the drinking? I can't do it. Gives me a headache immediately and I spend the next day or two (depending on how much I drink) feeling like complete shit. And since I quit smoking last summer? I def'y can't drink-they went hand in hand for me. I know I'd want a cigg if I had anything to drink so it's better to avoid that temptation for me.

I never started the 30DS. I gave it a valiant effort as far as thoughts go but I've determined that workout videos are not for me. I get so damn bored (thanks ADD) with it that I'll last a day or two and then I'm done. The hubs and I are talking about buying a basic elliptical though. Now that, I could do. Set that sucker in front of the tv and off you go. I can be entertained while doing it

Why would you add water to a margarita?

Dr Pepper is pretty rare here - I don't think I've ever tried it. It's just another cherry cola, right?
I use low calorie lime flavored water instead of the high calorie sweetened lime juice or sweet & sour.  I can't drink straight alcohol....but don't worry, I definitely add enough.  (Triple sec & tequila)  ;D
