im the worst twilight fan ever. lol
i have no desire to go to forks or port angeles.

i would love to go to Seattle, but that is because of the grunge music i grew up listening to.

The current series (broadcast here - it may have been filmed years ago!) of Top Chef is in Seattle. This week they went to the Pike Place Market. I remember reading a couple of fics about the markets and the fish throwing - how very fangirl of me!

Seattle is also on our itinerary. I am travelling with a group of friends and there is only one more, who is Twilight fan, so I will have to be "tame" and "inconspicuous", meaning no squealing, fainting and giggling, just act like a "normal" tourist.  :azn:

Where is home for you?

Flying between the US and Europe seems to be a much shorter trip than Australia to US or Europe. How long does it take? I realise it depends which coast of the US you fly to.

Seattle is a great place to visit.  Though it does rain a lot. There are some great places around that area. And I love going on the ferries. And Pike's Place Market is fun to visit.  Just don't let them throw fish at you ;)

And the cool volcanoes.  I got to see the area around Mount St Helens about 10 years after it blew. Everything still looked dead. I'd like to see what it looks like now.  The Olympian Penisula is real pretty too.

Mount St Helens - is that the one in that movie with Pierce Brosnan about a volcano? I think it also had Helen Hunt - the female lead was the sherriff? She had 2 kids? Some teenagers went swimming in hot springs and got boiled alive? I can't remember what it was called - God, I hope it's not called "Volcano"!  :D

:D :D :D
I don't know much about USA geography, but we all learned that these are good fishing grounds, so you had to have been there with your hubby, right? ;)

I've been to New York City once, and Philadelphia. I stood on top of the Twin Towers ...

But I want to see more, the other side of the country... *sigh*

It snowed all week and today we got another 25cm (around 1 foot?) of snow...  >:( I miss the sun!

So, off to cook dinner  :-*

I went to NY when I was 18. The Twin Towers were closed because the weather was really bad, Central Park was closed because of snow. We watched "Cats", my sister got thumped by a dude in a suit when we walked down Wall Street and I spent a day almost blind. (the plastic frames of my glasses had snapped due to the extreme cold when we were in Bannf. We'd mended with superglue but it came apart in New York and wouldn't hold again - it took 24 hours to get a new set of frames back in those days.)

Despite all of that, I would love to go back to NY!

How's it going so far? I think there are a lot things to do at such a party (as I've read, never been to a baby shower...) you can busy yourself with so you don't have to interact as much with the guests. Or perhaps you find someone you'll actually have fun with? I hope for the best!

I hate baby showers! Hate, hate, hate them! I would prefer to get a pap smear by a blind pirate than go to a baby shower!

All the smug bitches with children sitting there looking at me with pity because I haven't managed to get impregnated yet! Even the ones who are single/divorced/knocked up by accident look at me like I am not worthy to be in the same room as them because I have not yet had a tadpole hit my egg!

And since turning 40 - I WILL punch the next person who pats my hand and tells me that I could still become a foster parent!

Deep breath...rant over. And I'm not PMSing at the moment!

Make yourself a Babyshower Bingo sheet! But don't shout out Bingo too loud... lol
Or...

... start rambling names (the weirdest you know) to confuse the new mom...
... ask her "You sure there's only one in there?"
... ask moms with kids about their birth stories, gory details that puts every vampire war to shame
... look for a bottlefeeding mom and a nursing mom and ask the one why she doesn't love her child enough to nurse it and the other why she doesn't love her husband enough to let him in in the feeding experience
... ask the new mom if she wants to destroy the earth with using disposible diapers or if she wants to destroy the water with using cloth diapers

 ;) at least you will have fun then...  :D :D :D :D :D

I think I fell in love with you just a little bit, Anchalee!

You could also ask all of the non-preggos when they are due  >:D...pat their tummy, smile, and say "Hmmm, any day now?"

I just finished reading You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login which is a cute one-shot. Made a dull Saturday much better!

I loved The Port Angeles Players You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login when I read it as a WIP.

Wow - I've been reading twific for a long time!

There was talk about a sequel to TPAP but I don't think it ever happened.

It was Dante's Peak.  Is it bad I remember the name?  Though Pierce Brosnan was pretty hot.  Helen Hunt doesn't sound right though.  She was in Twister.

Mount St Helens blew in 1980 I think.  It killed a bunch of geologists that were watching it. But most people in the blast zone were evacuated.  The mudslide did more damage, if I remember correctly. But, they didn't make a movie on it that I know of.

Oops...seems I'm slow in the typing LOL!

I feel your pain. They are all younger than me. Most of them are married with a couple of kids out there.

its a shame i dont know 2/3 of the guests.

i just told off a couple of boys, oh my god!!!!!!! what hooligans! i seriously was almost screaming at them. and their mothers were mia.
they were messing with the tv, my dads cigars, my moms crystal, turning on and off the lights, messing with the dogs, the alarm system sensors.
i was like: where the hell do you think you are?? this is not your house!!!!!!!
another friend told them off, my mom, and grandma (mom of the pregnant girl). i´ve never seen such hooligans.
one of them kept complaining he was bored and there was nothing to do. I kept saying it was his fault for leaving the house without a toy.
 :D :D

so this little shit mom finally comes and ask me if he was giving me any trouble. i just say: he was, but dont worry, i already scolded him. and left.

 >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

some people shouldnt be parents.

i love kids. but those two were the devil. they were 7 or 8. they should know better. especially after being scolded by several different people.

:iagree: I deal with this sort of shit every day but at least I get paid to do it! You're just lucky that the kid's mother didn't abuse you! That happens more and more - kid's a shit, mum/dad don't do anything, then go off at anyone who does!

I love kids - I really do - and I love my job, but I'm seeing more parents who don't parent anymore!

That said, there are also lots of wonderful parents too!!!

I've seen and lived a couple of those kind of hooligans. A cousin of mine was like that when he was still a kid, the saddest part is that now he is a irresponsible, and I don't want to call him an adult because he isn't one. The parents should be aware of what they're kids are doing and/or where they are and hey deranged, you are right if you know you are going to some other place and you are going to be there for a while, then bring something to entertain yourself

That's what I mean about parents not parenting! No 7 year old boy wants to go to a baby shower, so the parents should pack a little bag of things to keep the kid occupied for a few hours, and should also know when to leave.

Last year,y my brother and SIL had a little party for their 4yo. They invited her kindy class (15 kids) around at 10:30 on a Sunday morning, thinking that everything would be wrapped up in an hour or 2 tops. At 5:30, they were having to ask some parents to leave - they sat there all day, expected to be waited on hand and foot, and left my brother to babysit all the kids. He said that some didn't even talk to their kids the entire day and he was the one making sure they had something to drink or eat and went to the toilet.

We have kids over all the time. There is one boy who is trouble, he is 6, we have to watch out for him.
But most of the time we manage to entertain them with whatever. I sometimes buy bubbles for them ( I'm out of stock at the moment) and we have couple of footballs. But I didn't know these people. There were a lot of people we didn't know. So it was an awkward situation.

First time you go to a stranger house and you take your hooligan kid....

Anyway, it's almost over. Six girls remain, my mother is so excited to be with them. They all studied with my brother. Including his ex is here.  I just abandoned the party. :)

Bubbles are my go to babysitting device - I just use dishwashing liquid if I run out, and if I have been organised, I mix the dw liquid with glycerine - kids love the strong bubbles! I also mix cornflour and water - mix in just enough water to make a paste. When you manipulate it, it goes firm (*snicker*) but as soon as you stop rolling/squeezing it turns back into liquid form. Kids love it and you just hose it all away when they're done playing. You can add food colouring, but only do that if you don't like the mothers - it stains their hands and clothes!

It's hard here.  People are afraid to punish their kids because they'll be accused of abusing them. But some kids just need some kind of discipline in their lives.

And then their are the stupid parents who think their bratty kids can do no wrong.... or they feel guilty because they have to work so much to pay for all the playstations and games and expensive athletic shoes.....

Sigh...I'm sometimes glad I didn't have kids.

I don't know how I even remember my own name sometimes! I only remembered Pierce Brosnan because he was Remington Steele (and a really crappy James Bond).

Biannual State Conference this week - I hope everyone wears name badges! I'm really good with faces, but can never remember a name - there will be lots of "Mate", "Darl", "Sweety" this week - and I really hate when people call me those!

Discipline does not = punish. Kids need clear boundaries and consequences - kids WANT and LIKE clear boundaries and consequences.

I think you're right about the guilt - parents are so busy nowadays that they feel like they don't spend enough time with the kids, but it's about quality, not quantity and the latest PS or trendy outfit doesn't count as quality time. Turn the games/TV/DVD/iPad off and actually talk to your kids - do something together - interact!

When I first started teaching, you could identify kids who were a little socially delayed because they would "parallel play" - they would play beside the other kids rather than joining in and playing together.

I actually see a lot of families who parallel play now - the parents are too wrapped up in what they want to do, and sometimes they don't encourage the kids to try/learn something new - so the kids are doing one thing and the parents are doing another and even though they're all there in the same place, they are barely interacting.

Am a movie buff, i tend to remember names of films and actors. But i guess with age, am starting to have a hard time recalling for films in recent years.  8) specially the young ones now. I recently saw Warm Bodies and for the life of me, i can't remember the names of the leads. I know the boy will appear in Jack the giant slayer, but i do know Ewan Mcgregor and Stanley Tucci will be in that one... Old age, full memory drive in my noggin?  :-\

I had crushes on some tv stars in the '80s: Pierce Brosnan and Greg Evigan (BJ and the Bear!!) were my top ones. So yes, i followed My Two Dads as well to see the yummy hotness of Greg as a dad  :)

I loved him in My Two Dads and remember being shocked that it was the other dad that went on to be so famous in Mad About You.

I just googled him - he'll be 60 this year!!!

How did I cope before google??? A show called My Two Dads nowadays would be so very different! :D
