Last year was in London, so maybe they wanted to go North this time? Still doesn't explain why they chose that far up, though. If I stayed in Oxford with family the night before and travelled from there it'd be doable. Even so I have no idea what happens at those sorts of things. Looking at pictures from last year it seems to just be eating/drinking, but they mention Twilight related events as well. I have a feeling I'm far too loud and obnoxious to go to anything like that :D

I eat and drink and can be loud and obnoxious too!

It is probably only 2 hours or so away along the windiest roads known to man.  Some of my family lived in that area and I flipping hated visiting them as the journey was such a witch.  If you decide you are definitely going, give me a shout and I will make the effort.  Team PTS and all that!!

Based on Laurendeplumes map I am about 1cm east of Blackpool.

The thing I'm most confused about is that it's three days long - I can't think of enough to things to cover one day, let alone three!

I have images of everyone leaving us alone together, pissed in some arse-end-of-nowhere pub :D We'd definitely be the black sheep of the group.

Distance:

While I thank you for your opinion, you cheeky cow, I'll have you know the nearest airport is ~2hrs from me and ~1hr or so from York, making it pointless to fly. So there.

Well, if you want to go to the Twific meetup, you'd better harness up the horsies and get moving!

Aren't you in London?

My sincere apologies to my pommy sisters - I had forgotten that your roads are almost un-driveable - too windy, too narrow and impossible to turn around in.

Very different to the roads we have Australia:

Huh - I didn't think anything in the UK was 7/9 hours away.

Unless you're travelling by horse and cart.

In Australia, we have these big machines with wings that transport you from one town to another.  ;)
LOL! I've heard of those things....big huge can like contraptions that smoosh a whole bunch of people into a little tiny space. I'm with Lauren on the driving.  I only fly if it's more than a day's drive.   :P

Of course, if I knew for sure Customward would be there??  *bites lip in indecision* * then wonders if the lip biting worked*  Okay, if Customward were there, I'd fly everywhere  :D ;D

Day 1
Celebrating the greatness of Snowqueens Icedragon / EL James
Drooling over Rob
Descriptive terms for how a blue dress looks on pale skin

Day 2
How to shutter
Drooling over Rob
Popular authors tell how there betas are instrumental in ensuring their posting they're most grammatically correct work

Day 3
Building suspense in a fic - It's not my story to tell
Drooling over Rob
Bitchy cat fighting in the fandom - how to ask for feedback and then argue with anyone that gives constructive criticism.

There is also a group dinner - I think they're serving lasagna, chicken alfredo, mushroom ravioli and pancakes. Well, these are the only foods available in the twifandom universe!

Damn! Now I really want to go to! If only to be pissed in some arse-end-of-nowhere pub with you all!

I thought the sky actually being blue was a myth!

Usually, that IS a cloudy day!

We are having a wet wet season though. More rain this weekend, with a chance of more flooding here (I could use another day off!). I was talking to an English couple from Devon in the lift yesterday. It has rained every day since they have been here! I actually apologised, as though I control the weather!

We'll be in drought again before too long.

The sky seriously looks like this most of the time:

From Devon? That's where I live! How odd.

I'd say I'm jealous of your weather but it'd likely be far too warm for me - when I went to Turkey it was around 50 degrees centigrade and I had to stay inside with the air conditioning on!

Nah...you get snuggly-in-bed, and soup, and flannel pjs, and hot chocolate, and slippers, and snow.

We get sweat.

50C!!! I would die in 50C!!! We get to around 40C, but even then, the air con is on and the beer is icy.

Devon? Cool! I'll be placing my clotted cream order shortly.

So when you have scones, do you put the jam on the scone and then the cream, or do you put the cream on and then the jam?

I'm so pale I'm almost translucent, they don't make an suncream with an SPF high enough for me to withstand that type of weather. Is air con expensive to run?

I personally do cream (lots) and then jam (a teaspoon or so). So tasty. You can actually make clotted cream at home very easily, though I doubt you'd want your oven on for hours in the temperatures you get.

A friend from Devon said that it the correct way to do it, and I have been doing it that way ever since - it's weird, but it does taste better to go cream then jam!

I have English, Irish and Scottish heritage, but my skin is mostly Scottish, so I burn really easily - and get freckles (cute at 5, not so cute at 40!). I don't leave the house without sunscreen on, even in winter. I also get my skin checked every year for skin cancers. So far, so good - my mum was ahead of her time with sun protection. She lost her father to melanoma when she was only 13, so has always made us wear hats and sunscreen. We have never been the bronzed Aussie stereotype and my skin thanks her, especially when I get complimented on how young I look. At the conference this week, I ran into people I haven't seen in years and some even asked me if I had work done!

We never had air con in our house when we were kids, and Dad even stressed out if we went to sleep with the ceiling fans on! I don't sleep with the air con on but I do have the fan on. I don't think it's gotten hotter - we're just all a little softer.

We don't really need to heat our homes in winter and we don't really need air con all the time in Summer so it probably isn't that expensive. Today, I have the fan on, but I also have the house closed up because it's raining (again!). If I open up all of the windows and doors, I get a lovely cool breeze even on the really hot days. The downside is, the sun can fade your furniture, and I have also gotten burnt inside too. My neighbours seem to have their air con on 24/7, but he does shift work, so probably needs to sleep during the day when it's the hottest and stickiest.

Heating and air con here are really just a comfort that we have gotten used to, rather than an essential need, and sometimes it's more about being lazy.

I have a heater and an electric blanket. These were vital in the last place I lived in - we would get well below freezing in winter in the mornings. The days would be just stunning (25C/77F) but the nights and mornings were really chilly (-7C/19F). The houses just aren't made for cold like they are in the UK or down south. That house was a great house for summer - large windows, great breeze, but it was an icebox in winter!

Up here where I am now, I just put an extra blanket on the bed and use a hot water bottle. I haven't used the electric blanket since I moved - I should chuck it!
