Just saw this on ADF You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

My husband is creating a new site that will hopefully completely replace FanFiction.net. It will eventually have more features than FFN, will be much more intuitive than FFN, and will never crash!

At this point he needs stories to populate the site in order to test the search functions. I am asking you to please supply me with your FFN Pen Name, and give me your permission to copy your stories from FFN and drop them into the new site. My husband will do the work of copying the stories over, and I promise that your stories will still reside on FFN and you will have complete control over them. And then, once the site name is finalized, if you also give me your email address, I will ensure that you have an opportunity to review the site and give your comments on the site's features and functionality before it's released to the public. You'll help design the site!

Thoughts? Feelings? Discuss.

I'm so pale I'm almost translucent, they don't make an suncream with an SPF high enough for me to withstand that type of weather. Is air con expensive to run?

I personally do cream (lots) and then jam (a teaspoon or so). So tasty. You can actually make clotted cream at home very easily, though I doubt you'd want your oven on for hours in the temperatures you get.
air con can be very expensive to run. I've been told our $300 a month bills in the summer are cheap.  But it gets pretty hot here in the desert. High 90's low 100's F is not unusual.

I've never had clotted cream but I've always wanted to try it. ;)

We're lucky that down south the heat is dry and not at all humid, so while it isn't unusual to spend weeks in the high 30s/ low 40s (so 100-115F) it's not humid, which makes it easier to bear.

We have an air-conditioner on the ground floor and evaporative cooling on the 1st floor at home, that saves on the energy bills as the evaporative cooling is just as efficient and cheaper to run and when it stays in the 30s overnight you certainly need some cooling.

As for clotted cream, it's really just off milk that has, you guessed it, clotted. It's all yellow and congealed and sometimes has a gritty texture, yet somehow tasty. You can make your own by heating up full cream milk and then letting it cool, it brings the solids to the surface in clots. To top it off it is really very bad for you; in fact when we were taught how to make it we were told that it has such a high fat content that in the USA it would be technically classified as butter!

It is mostly dry where I am.  If it weren't for my husband I wouldn't run the A/C much. But he works in a hanger with minimal heat/air. So in the summer he comes home & complains the house is too hot. In the winter, it's too cold.  Sigh.

But we used to have an evaporative cooler at our old house. I loved it.  A/C dries out my sinuses soo bad.  But this house doesn't have one & it will be really expensive to put it in :(

My last power bill was under $350 and that was for 3 months over our hottest summer on record.

I guess living alone has some perks, but I'd prefer to pay a slightly higher power bill! I could also get rid of my hot water bottle in winter
.

Clotted Cream has such an unfortunate sounding name for something so delicious!

It's a creamy mix of cream and butter. Ha! That reminds me of this: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login and You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

I had actually saved this recipe from Pinterest months ago and Lauren's post made me take another look:

As I said above, there isn't much to it. There is only one ingredient: heavy whipping cream. Use as much as you would like. I used two pints (4 cups) - be sure to see my notes above about about not using ultra-pasteurized cream. The clotted cream can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Use it to top scones, pancakes, toast, or in my case, high tea cupcakes.

  • Pour the cream into a heavy-bottomed oven-safe pot. The cream should come up the side of the pot somewhere between one and three inches.
  • Cover the pot and put it in the oven on 180 F/82C.
  • Leave the covered pot in the oven for at least 8 hours. My four cups took 12 hours (until my oven automatically turned off). You'll know it's done because there will be a thick yellowish skin above the cream, as shown above. That skin is the clotted cream.
  • Let the pot cool at room temperature, then put it in the refrigerator for another 8 hours.
  • Remove the clotted cream from the top of the pot. The cream that is underneath it can still be used for baking

12 hours in the oven? With my attention span, I'd forget about it and burn the house down!

Although......

Evaporative cooling just doesn't work here! It just adds to the humidity.

The other night, I spend 45 minutes in my air-conditioned room, straightening my hair - after I had already blow dried it straight and used smoothing cream and Moroccan oil!

I felt confident, glamourous, sexy - then I stepped outside and turned into this:

That's why I don't sleep in the a/c. 4 days in constant a/c has left me feeling like a tribe of savages has set up camp in my nostrils!

I love anything creamy (and there is no innuendo intended in that comment!) but fortunately for me, I can't eat too much of anything that is creamy without then developing a very close relationship with my bathroom.

Is anyone still shredding? I was supposed to start Level 3 on Friday, but my poor feet are shredded - literally! I didn't realise that 30DS would make me lose weight in my feet. My dress heels were too big and there was a lot of walking and the only bandaids I had were the ones I have been carrying around in my toiletries case since 2004, so either no stick or the stick was so strong I couldn't get the backing paper off!

I have blisters on blisters on my heels and toes and beautiful little scabby things across the tops of both feet. I even have a blister on the bottom of my right foot!

I'll have to wear thongs to work tomorrow - how classy! At least I'm the boss  ;)

I'm reading Evening the Score by DiamondHeart78 / DH78 You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Bella is a relationship-weary sports journalist. Edward is a playboy, ex-pat American soccer player in London. When they meet, will they connect or kill each other?

After Comp Sem, I didn't mean to pick another sporting story (I missed the "soccer" in the summary  :-[) and I had low expectations in the beginning, but I am enjoying it now.

Bella is the tough, jaded player which is something a little different. I'm only about a quarter of the way through, but I'll let you know what I think.

I'm just finishing Hydraulic Level 5 by gondolier.  I had started it in the past, but hadn't realised it had completed.  This is a really good fic.

I've just finished HL5.  I was slightly disappointed with the ending after waiting for so long.

Time to find something else now!

How was it disappointing? I tried to read it when it was a WIP but I gave up.

I don't really know how to explain it - it just seemed to end really quickly after all the drama.

It didn't leave any loose ends or anything just left me feeling a bit deflated.
