Question for everyone here...

What kind of tablet do you guys have? Do you love it or was it just an ok buy?

My hubby won a Best Buy gift card through a work contest and we're thinking of getting one but I like to have people's thoughts/opinions on stuff like this.

Thank you  :-*
I have a Samsung Tab 2 (10.1) and a Nook Color.  I use the Nook Color more than the Samsung tablet.  I bought the tablet more to read PDF docs for school.  The only problem is it is a little big to hold and use.  Probably if I hadn't got the Nook, I would use it more.  Then again, maybe not.  Magazines are better on it.  I don't play a lot of games so I can't really say....other than solitaire.

The Nook is better for email, fanfiction and well, searching for fanfiction.  But mostly, it is a little too locked down.  You can't access the Amazon App Store with it  The Amazon App Store is great, plus there is the Free App of the Day (FOTD) which can be amazing.  Or suck really badly.  The Samsung will access the Amazon App Store.  The other great thing about both is the ability to use MicroSD cards. This can add up to 32GBs of extra memory for things like movies or, I don't know, fanfiction maybe?

Personally, I would love a Samsung Note, though I'm hearing mixed reviews as to whether it works the way it is advertised.

So really, if you are going to mostly read with it, I recommend the 7" tablets.  If you are watching movies, playing games, and reading magazines or newspapers on it, 10" are better.

My husband has an iPad, which he likes.  My biggest complaint is the cost versus the memory.  Most movies are around 1.5 GBs for a 2 hour movie NOT in HD.  And there is no place for an SD card to expand it.   But iPads are fairly easy to use.

Hope this helps a bit.....

:D on the creepy voice

Thank you for the input! I really appreciate that, and now the mini is an option.

I've never used any apple products....been a PC and Android girl from the get-go.

So both epubs and mobi can potentially be read on the ipads? Are there a lot of free apps on the apple system?

I would be using this for web surfing and reading, not a gamer :)

I hate apple computers.

I love everything else apple.

I might be a bit strange.  :o

After all, I'm here talking to myself AGAIN!

Do you all download straight to your tablets or do most of your library maintenance on your laptops?
I should mention my Nook is only partially jailbroken, so I am stuck with B&N's app store which sucks.

However, with flagfic, I download directly to the Nook and it is great.  I do track my stuff on my computer, but since I rarely actually look at my TBR list when picking a fic to read, yeah, I download and read.  There is a shelf that keeps the most current stuff you're looking at which is kind of great, but it only holds about 20 books.   :P

I'm somewhat anti-Apple, primarily because they always are talking about how much better they are, but for the price, well I got a great computer for about a $1000 less with more RAM & a bigger HD.  Also? I can crash an Apple so fast. And I don't know how to fix it.

I love my PC.  That said, I did like my iPhone.  But I hated the limited memory.  Android is okay.

I really don't see the need for an iPod touch. It is just like an iPhone without the phone and browsing capabilities. Just get the iPhone, it works just fine as an mp3 player. In fact, my iPhone syncs with my car and I can play the music on my phone in the car. I can even use the phone through my car.  Gonna spend that kind of money, get something that has many purposes.
See, I have this great iPod touch....well actually, it's my old iphone.  :D :D :D Since the phone doesn't work, yeah, it's an ipod.   ;D

I do need to change the battery though.  It just doesn't stay charged long enough to be really useful. ;)

One more week and I'll be back home and then I can actually talk when everyone is on the board.  I guess this is the problem with being in beautiful *cough* sunny *cough* California....

Though the fog has been lovely in the mornings.  Um, if I could see anything.... :P

Eta: my kids are not deprived of anything, if anything they are spoiled so I don't even feel bad when my mom gives me the 'look'  that I should be ashamed bc I don't share those things. Every single thing in my life is shared with my kids /husband that I'm sorry, it's okay for some stuff to be just for me kwim? While learning to share is obviously an important lesson, not always getting what you, regardless of the whining is also important Imo.

Yes! You CAN say no to children.
It does not cause them psychological damage.

It builds resilience and makes them better adults.

I've never called it that before, but you've inspired me. :-*

ETD: I have 312 emails - 289 are fic links from all of you that I emailed to myself.  ::)
So much for reducing the TBR list  :-[

But thank you for the recs

I'm the techie nerd among all of my family and friends and will always help them out as long as I have the ability to do so. In fact, I actually enjoy messing around with gadget and electronics so it helps them out and fun for me :-)

Me too - although my skills are limited compared to most of you, I am the techie nerd of my friends and family.

Mostly, that consists of downloading books, movies and TV shows.

Speaking of which, does anyone watch Arrow? It is all over the TV here - "coming soon" - but I know it's been on in the US for a few months. Is it worth downloading/watching?

(I know the main actor is worth watching - the ad has a clip of him shirtless that I may have paused once or twice  :57:)

Did I mention I'm home!

And able to take a breath of fresh air, having escaped the smoke from the fires, although it's predicted to be even hotter up here this weekend. The heat wave continues and is getting worse. I might need to strip naked and do a rain dance. ;)

Have I mentioned sexy neighbour boy who mows without his shirt on? I wonder if he'll join me in a rain dance.  >:D

I hope you never come to England expecting people with their shirt off to be sexy.. over here the best we get is an old man with a beer belly and hairy back  :o

I know nothing about Tablets, but try You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login as it gives a 'techy' review of all the different models and makes.

Also Astro, I keep meaning to ask what the time difference is between you and the US. I did look it up online but I had to add hours to my time, then take them away again for another time zone and got confused :(

Yay for being home, away from the smoke and with your laptop!

Alas there is no escaping from the smoke for me, at least the horsies are safe and our paddocks haven't been burnt to a crisp.

Oh, and I say YES to the sexy neighbour boy. None of my direct neighbours are anything to write home about however some of the ones a tad further afield are seriously fit. And they know it too, so I often have the joy of seeing them out and about in just their stubbies. It's even better when they are across at the park (of which I have the perfect view from our drawing room window) playing some sort of football code or cricket half naked. They seem to do that a lot...

Well I'm in Victoria and New York is 16 hours behind me, and Seattle is 19 hours behind. Due to the fact that Queensland doesn't have Daylight Saving Time Astro is one hour behind me at the moment, so she is 15 hours ahead of NY. It's currently 9:30pm for me on Friday (8:30 for Astro).

We are GMT +11 hours.

We get plenty of hairy old men with beer bellies here - and hairy old women with beer bellies too!  :-\

The time on PTS now says it's 2:40am on Friday, 11 Jan. That's west coast US time. East coast is 5:40am.

In London, it is 10:40am on Friday, 11 Jan.

Here (Queensland, Australia) it is 8:40pm on Friday, 11 Jan. In Sydney and Melbourne, it is 9:40pm - they have daylight saving time in Summer.

So, from your time, count back 2 hours (10-2=8), then flip it from am to pm (or vice versa), but remember that we're ahead, not behind.

There you go...clear as mud! :P

I don't know if anyone is looking for horror twifics, but I just discovered a great one  :13:

Lions Eat Lambs by Raggdolly

A camping expedition goes awry when Bella's friends disappear. While searching for them, she stumbles upon the manor of Edward Cullen, unaware that she is about to become a pawn in his dangerous game - a game she can't afford to lose. AU/OOC/V&H

I read it overnight, something that hasn't happen in a long while for me. It is mainly a fic about a hunter and its pray. Edward is above depraved, but he still appears sane in his insanity. And Bella is not just a helpless, romantic lamb. I will definatelly add her to my list of favorite authors!

But, beware! It is a horror fic, no romance involved...

Aw yay! I rec'd this before but it seems we're lacking horror fans around here. If you liked this, try Masque of Red Death. Can't remember the author name but that one was brutal.

You are more than welcome any time, we can sit in my front room and oogle them out the window like the pervs we are.

As for the bushfires, we are quite close (well, the horses and other house is) but they've got it under control at the moment. Nothing as bad as what we've had to deal with in the past (Black Saturday anyone?), despite the heat they're not so raging due to the fact that it's early in the summer and everything isn't as dry as a tinder box yet, well, the grass is but the gums aren't. Give it another week or two and we won't be sitting quite so pretty.
