Guy Pearce was on Neighbours. I can't remember the other show - Australians aren't really very good at supporting local shows (because so many used to be SO bad!) but my research skills (Google) led me to this:

ETD: Wow - it had Hugh Jackman and Josh Lucas too!

I never watched it and can't even remember it.

Really??  I don't remember them.  Actually, I think Hugh Jackman may well have been one of the other brothers.  It was a pretty good series - my Hubby to be even watched it with me.

i used to watch neighbours when i lived in England.
it was great, i learned to understand their accents.
which was the whole point of me watching the show. i was a fanatic and wanted to talk and understand Pat Rafter.   >:D
that was back in 1999/2000. i was 16/17 then.

Ok, I just wondered as you seem to be talking to yourself a lot during the day!  I suppose that's your evening though - that sucks.  Are there not a lot of Aussies on here then?

There doesn't seem to be (I think maybe 3 others) and the ones that are, are an hour ahead of me because of daylight saving time over Summer.

I just seem to have a real knack for logging on here when no-one else is around  :-[ - I'm on my summer holidays so I have a lot more time to be here.

Or, I could just always rave on with a lot of bullshit!  ;)

Hahaha - I thought you did that anyway!!  JK
It seems odd that you are on your Summer holidays when we are in the middle of winter.  I'm going to sound ignorant now, but, are you near the Gold Coast - that is Queensland isn't it?

This sounds like the start of a joke, but in 2005, I was out in a pub in Dublin with my sister. We'd met a kiwi boy and a Polish girl on a day tour, and then there were a couple of boys from Boston (who were trying to crack on - they were hoping for a free bed for the night). There was also a couple from Vancouver. We were chatting to a group of locals at the table beside us.

The Polish girl had to translate for us all!

There was lots of Guinness involved, but even though we were all talking the same language, we couldn't understand each other!  :D

Oh My God - I can't even begin to think of the number of accents.  Put beer in the mix and they get even thicker.  I bet that was a fun evening - I assume they didn't get a bed?

i could never understand the Scottish accent.

i lived with a host famiy (in Derbyshire), the guy was scottish, but he had been living forever in England so his accent wasnt that bad. The woman had that kings English you hear on BBC.
They also had irish friends. I used to go to Wales on my half terms.
I lived in Nigeria for a couple of years when i was younger. and studied english in an american school.
So i kind of learned how to understand everyone.

OK - Geography lesson time.

Queensland is the northern state on the east coast of Australia (we have the pointy, sticky-up bit).

Brisbane is Queensland's capital city - it's down the bottom on the right (south-east of the state). That's where I was born and grew up and where I was visiting the family.

The Gold Coast is about an hour's drive south of Brisbane, and is just above the border of New South Wales (the state where Sydney is).

I live 700km north of Brisbane, near Rockhampton. It's exactly on the Tropic of Capricorn (about a third of the way up the QLD coast.

A bed - no.
A good pash at the hotel door...maybe!  ;) There was a LOT of Guinness, and definitely some vodka too!

We left the next morning for Limerick.

i could never understand the Scottish accent.

My sister-in-law is Scottish and even though she was only 9 when she moved here, 22 years ago, she still has an accent, especially when she drinks or is nervous. I can't ever understand her parents, even when they're sober (which is rarely!).

The scots throw in a lot of weird words though. Aussies never do that!  ;D ;)

Like I said - ignorant!  I'm sorry, it is just really hard to grasp the distances.  My Sis moved to Texas and I remember her telling me she was going to a concert in Austin.  I couldn't believe it as she had to fly there.  I was then told that the UK would fit into Texas 3 times over!  I only asked as I have  various family in Australia and my Auntie moved from Melbourne to the Gold Coast - I hadn't realised it was so big.  Thanks for the Geography lesson!

I find that really sad.  I must admit, my Hubs knows as he doesn't really have a choice!  My kids also know and I have 1 friend who knows as it her fault anyway - she introduced me to the books.  O.K. - she probably didn't realise it was going to change my life, but ,it did.

Too lazy to set up a Astro2009 facebook account so don't panic. FB is the devil, so I have as little as possible to do with it.

Now, according to my World Clock, Sao Paulo and Brasilia are 12 hours behind where I am, not Sydney, and Sydney and Sao Paulo and Brasilia are all on Daylight Saving time. It's just gone 10am here, 11am in Sydney.

Oh, it's all too confusing!
