Ok folks, list em here. Fics that you have flounced, and why you flounced them. Help keep others apprised of the good, the bad, and the badly edited. :-*

I have a question. Yes I know, another one, lol. If you know that a story is going to have a sequel, or find out it will have one, do you read it, flounce when you find out, or wait till it's completed to read, and or flounce?

For me, it depends. If the first story has ended at a good point, then I would probably read it, and then read the sequel once it was done. If the first story leaves you hanging, and you have to wait for the sequel to and answers, closure, HEA, etc then I would wait until they are both done. I need my HEA for EXB. I usually skim the epilogue before I start a new story to make sure that I will be getting the HEA that I need, otherwise I won't read the story at all.

It really depends - I have read fics and then realized that there is a sequel afterwards, then I will read the sequel if it's complete.
But if I'm following/skimming a fic and the author mentions there's going to be a sequel I will wait until both fics are complete to read.

I'm trying to continue on with Emancipation Proclamation for the second time, but I just can't seem to make it past the first few chapters. It seems pretty juvenile for such heavy subject matter and I'm already questioning the characters and I haven't even made it past the first fifty pages. I know it's pretty loved so I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to continue reading?

I never finished this one either. I enjoyed it, it was just so LOOONG that I set it aside to read something else and never went back to it.

Now I dunno if I should go back to the fic, or read the published version, now that it's complete. Er, it IS complete isn't it, the pubbed version?

I just flounced a Fic 21 chapters in...after ignoring numerous time and age discrepancies, use of incorrect homophones - I just couldn't take a B/E break-up because he can't get over the death of his wife ten years before and she runs to ex-husband Jake.  When I read some of the reviews I could see it was only going to get worse with her getting involved with someone else, so I'm done.

I can't seem to be able to find anything complete that I want to read and so many stories that have me hooked haven't updated in a while.

I guess I am back to rereading from my favorites list.

I wasn't sure if I had read this fic, so I went to read some of the reviews. Definitely not going to read this! Thanks for the heads up!

This is a part of one the reviews.

"I like your story quite a bit, but I'm having a bit of trouble respecting your Bella. I definitely can appreciate flawed characters (as both your Bella and Edward are-good job there) but Bella seems very weak, like she needs a man at all times in her life to function. She was basically ready to jump into a romantic relationship with Edward before the ink was dry on her divorce papers. She had every right to be heartbroken when Edward unceremoniously dumped her at Emmett's wedding, but you go home, call a girlfriend and drown your sorrows with ice cream and sappy chick flicks. You don't head straight to your ex-husband's, get plastered and sleep with him. She's a grown woman and mother and that is just epically bad judgement. Then she moves on with Riley, which is fine, but she was thinking of Edward as the man proposed and yet she still said yes. So she was settling, which tells me she didn't learn her lesson the first time around with her marriage to Jake. Then, as soon as she finds out Edward still wants her, she dumps Riley (with a convenient out since she was apparently a bet) and hops right back into bed and an engagement with Edward the same night. I know that sounds negative, and I really do like your story, I just wish Bella was a little stronger and more mature. Of course, it's your story and you're free to write your characters any way you please."

The pubbed version is now complete and quite different to the fic. I would recommend reading the pubbed version as it's been edited enough that it cuts out a lot of unnecessary stuff.
But then again I loved the fic and have read it several times, so I'm probably not the best person to give a totally unbiased opinion on this.  ^-^ :D

I know this is an older discussion, but I just have to say, that I won't read ANY mamasutra stories on principle alone. She's just too irreverent of our beloved E/B characters, and after WDCBU, which was the most sick Edward I've ever read, I refuse to let my eyes or brain be infested with her drivel. Even in the shocking event she wrote a good story, as I see referenced above, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pole.

I just had to get that off my chest.

Thanks!
Now that she's gotten over her anger at her husband, she's actually written a few nice sweet stories. She is an awfully good writer.  But I won't read any of her cheater fics.  I have to know it will be an HEA for E/B before I start.  ;D

Depends on the writer.  If I loved the original? I will read the sequel as a WIP.  Of course, many times the author flounces before I do!  :D :D :D :D :D :D

But otherwise, I will usually wait to read a sequel.  The first story should stand on it's own in my opinion.  If it doesn't? I may flounce.  I would read a Drotuno WIP of the Angel series if she decides to write another one.  I've read the 4 in the series and loved them all.  But I think she is done. I haven't gotten through the Gravity series yet, I just read the first one.  It didn't grab me as much as the Angel series, but it is good and I will read the rest later.  She does write a complete story.  And her premise lends itself well to a series, as they can have adventures without messing up the HEA.  Potentially you could do it with Through the Lenz, but it is hard to write an HEA then continue on.

I'm currently Beta'ing How to Live With A Movie Star, the third in the Series.  I think she did an okay job, though I think they really need each other.  You can't read the second without reading the first. The first may have stood on it's own. But really, you need the second one to have the real HEA.

Another example? MoTU - When she wrote it? The first two FSoG books were in the first MoTU.  MoTU worked.  FSoG did not.  The sequel worked as well because though they had their HEA, there was still the outstanding issue of James/Jack.  But you couldn't read the second story (third book) without the first.

Hope that helps....

No.  I think I made it about 150 pages and still was bored.  I don't get it.  But from what I hear, the best part is nearer the end.

LOL! Not this one.  Not if it is Jake and Bella.   I like the fluffly crackfics and sugary sweet ones.  So that crack fic someone flounced a couple pages ago? Yeah, added to the reading list.   :D :D :D :D :D

I bought Sempre, but haven't read it yet.  Then I found out that there was a second story? Do I need both to get a complete story or does the first stand on it's own?

And really? I'm not a big Mafiaward fan.  I never liked the Godfather movies or the Sopranos.  I guess I'm too law-abiding.  I like Law and Order - got to put the bad guys in jail.  So it's hard to like these characters for me.  ;D

I understand what you're saying, but Mamasutra is a very good writer and the the thing you have to remember with her is to trust her genre settings.  She will not say it is romance if it won't  have an HEA - she will tell you from the get go if the story will rip your heart out.  I keep her on alert and trust her to categorize her stories accurately.  This has worked well for me.

Yeah, you do need to have both as the first one finishes kind half way through the story, so the second one gives you the proper HEA.

I'm reading Cotton Creek by rtgirl and it's all fluff. No angst, no drama--at least not so far and I'm about 3/4 done.

Okay, I'm giving up. Sorry to all those who loved this story, but I'm flouncing. Nothing happens in this fic except B&E fall in love. That's it. And since that happened in the first half of this fic, nothing has been happening except a reiteration of that love chapter after chapter. I just don't care anymore. If you are looking for an all fluff story that is technically written well but with absolutely no drama or angst, this is for you. "My precious little perv" "My Jezebel" I love you. I love you. Isn't he so perfect?  She's so perfect. UGH!

And if any more tears flow out of this girl's eyes because of his perfection, she's going to die of dehydration. Seriously.
