There are a heap of well-rec'ed fics that are complete and on my TBR list. As soon as I finish what's on my e-reader, I'm starting on those. If anyone cares, now I'm up to the A-F's (A Fresh Start).

I just counted - 170 "A" titles left!!! I think it's time to change my plan.

I have refused to let my OCD tendencies dictate the order I'm reading fics in.  My dream as a child was to read every book in the library in author alpha order, until I figured out how difficult that would be.  That desire started to follow me into adulthood, but I appease it by picking a book from the As, then next time one from the Bs, and so on.  You could try that with your fics.  Good luck.

Ohhh, another beauty!

"She looked over rat me again" -The Ex-Factor. This story has tons of mistakes like that, it was fine at the start, but it's as if the longer the story goes on the less care is being taken...

Oh, I gave one the flick the other day when the grammar was just so bad I could not get into the flow. Actually grammar is one of the main reasons I'll shoot through on a fic. The misuse of your and you're, their, there and they're, and the crazy overuse of Bella and I just about make me spit the dummy. It's the crazy linguist in me I tell you.

People have had it drilled into them "It's not me and Alice it's Alice and I". Well, not always buddy. There is such a simple way of figuring it out too, if one is a tad confused. If you wouldn't use I in the singular than you shouldn't use it for the plural. No one says "you should come to the cinema with I" so you don't say "You should come to the cinema with Alice and I". Drives me absolutely bonkers! Okay, rant over.

:D :D IlikeyouIdo! Good for you! I love this forum, you come on here thinking it all about what my friends called dressed-up NOT ALLOWED and get all sorts of useful information!! LOVE IT.

I hate/want to flounce when authors write dialogue which is not age appropriate (not sure how else to put this) I have an Edward who is 25, training to be a doctor, who say "oh gosh"! like a 12 year old! Come on! stop it. I'm loving The Ex-factor but I just keep thinking if only a better writer had written this it would be flawless...

LOL! Now see we don't use the g in whine.  And for me?  Whilst (am I spelling that right?) Is a big giveaway that the writer is Aussie as I've never heard an American use that term.

And we all whinge about those darn WIPs - but the worst are the ones where you are reading it it, then realize the last update was 2 years ago....sigh.....   WIPs can be really fun and exciting, but horribly annoying at the same time   :-\ :P >:( ;D ;D

Yup, whilst is a very Aussie/British thing. As is Learnt (to me learned is pronounced learn-ed and is someone who is very knowledgeable or well read about a certain subject) the past tense of learn.

And yeah, whinge is different to whine, but most people do whine when they have a whinge about something. Pronounced something like winj.

Oh yes, and don't get me started on WIPs that have been abandoned. I found such a good one the other day, then it hadn't been updated in 2 years so I nicked off outta there pretty darn quickly.

I know what you mean.  A Nerd Story of Love is really starting to bug me - B & E are having almost sex in his office and the really smart Nerdward says "you have to be quiet, we don't want Eric to know we're doing anything elicit in here"
Bella, the book editor replies, "but we are doing something elicit in here"    :banghead: :banghead:  :banghead:

I almost flounced right then.  Then I relooked at the AN & realized she doesn't have a beta. You can't proof read your own work. It's just not possible.  I give more latitude if they don't have a beta.   :-X

Errr? We Brits use "whilst" til it's coming out our ear. "whinge" is a different term/word to "whine" it means the same ( moaning) but it's pronounced differently. whine=wine, whinge= weng. We tend to use both here....
Although I've seen it with a lot of British writers? I always see it with Aussie writers  ;)

Oh I agree! Although I do use golly and gosh, but I have to censor myself around kids. Otherwise I'd have a mouth like most other Aussies...Although damn, which is a word I use in place of some more vulgar was one I got told off for using when I was at summer camp in the states... Also bloody, the universal Aussie epithet, most commonly used in place of "very"...that one got me in loads of trouble even though it's not a swear word here, just very often used in front of one  ;).

As for p o r n. If your mates think fic is p o r n then you should introduce them to google and my mates, then they'll get an education in the real deal.  :D :D :D

This was one occasion when I can't blame my OCD. I was loading everything onto my e-reader before I went away for a month (in December 2011) and my reader was full. So I made a quick decision to just load the As. Ten months later, and I'm still perservering, but not for much longer!

I've only flounced on one (of the A's). The worst was obviously written by a child. After Edward leaves in New Moon, he hits Bella with his car - at 100mph! - and then she is up and walking around fine, except she is "on drugs". Lots of errors, and overuse of SHOUTY CAPITALS throughout.
This is the last paragraph of the first chapter:
Emmett was starting to think of how to prank me with Bella for all those years of boredom and Esme dry sobbed to see how her daughter had changed from a sweet innocent girl to a drug addict. I was truly mad at Bella. But not because she was on drugs, because she fell in love with me.

The A/N should have been enough of a clue:
AUTHOUR OF SAVING AN ANGEL AND BLOWING UP.

iS MY NAME STEPHANIE MEYER. NO. BECAUSE I DON'T OWN ANY OF THESE AWESOME CHARECTERS.LOL.

Haha. I see that too, and they both drive me up the wall. I think some people just need to go back to primary school and have a few lessons in basic English grammar before they unleash themselves into the world of writing or editing.

It doesn't bother me quite so much when I see someone is unbetaed but when you have a beta, those are things that should be picked up on. Although I am a bit of a grammar grump which is kinda ironic given I have dyslexia and often misspell and leave letters out of words.  :o

No - I bailed after Chapter 3, then checked the author profile. She was like 11 when she wrote it - *cringe*

You can check it out here if you like: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login  :unamused:

Now, I'm a primary school teacher so I'm used to reading some pretty poor writing, but not in my leisure time! I applaud her for trying - I couldn't write to save myself, but this was a pretty NOT ALLOWED-weak effort! (another Aussie-ism, I believe)

And p i s s is not allowed? That's one of the most used words in my vocab! I must have a real potty-mouth!

Hehe. Can't say p i s s. What if you need to use the toilet?

And yeah, while I applaud them for putting their work out there. Sprogs have no business really writing fics, unless it's about pony club and primary school. Especially not M fics. At 11, they've had what 1 year of s e x ed learning about puberty and the like? Yeah.

No thanks, I'll take your word for it....But you right if she is 11 then at least she tried. What this site does or does not allow (in terms of prohibited words) seem pretty arbitrary.

At my school, we don't do any s e x ed - they're all country kids so they know the logistics.
I love the first term of school when the 4 and 5 year olds ask to go to the toilet - "I need to take a p i s s, please" from a little one just cracks me up every time  :D but I do manage to help them rephrase it.

Last year, a little boy told me he needed to "please hang a s h i t". Even I knew that was not a word to use as school!

I've always thought Americans don't "go to the toilet" - they "use the bathroom". Is that correct?

we can go to the bathroom, use the restroom or the ladies/mens room. But usually the toilet is the thing you sit on, not the room you use, if that makes sense ;)

:D If we're talking peeves, mine is when authors talk about Vampireward getting an erection. How? Erections are caused by blood rushing to the penis, vampires do not have blood running in their veins;  plus are they not made of a substance like stone? How? Just how could this...thing, rise?

If they are made of stone, shouldn't it always be hard?? A real perpetual hard on??  *raises eyebrows*

Wow, a week off and there are so many pages to read on both threads, so many items in google reader, so many fic updates, and a hurricane deciding to come at us. Not sure how long power will remain, so I am hording and charging everything I have. For those in harms way....stay safe. I am near the coast of NC. So we are not going to get the brunt of the storm, but I have lived through my fair share.

Speaking of Aussie's. I now wanna try a Tim Tam

And found more of those bunnies you guys keep seeing.

Now, I have not started any new fics. Just keeping up with all my wips and I have read one real book and reading another right now.

Stay safe everyone and Hurricane Sandy....Frankenstorm.....whatever your name.....

Haha, here a room with a toilet in it is called "the toilet" or "toilets". At school we have toilet blocks, sometimes the toilet is in the bathroom (but more commonly it's in a room of its own) but we'd still say "I'm going to the toilet" or "I need the toilet" or something a bit more crass not really fit for a forum.

Dunny, thunder box, loo or toot are also common terms.

Tehe. Anyway to bring this somewhat back on topic: I'm reading Wild by PeppahLouie at the moment and It's really good. But another lost in translation moment happened about. Bella and Edward are in bed, she feels his little friend but he's being all celibate and then the following is written:

He growls into my shoulder, "I am being tested."

"Will you pass?"

"That depends on which side you're rooting for."

I laughed out loud. In Aus, to root, or rooting is, um, a synonym for a more vulgar term for s e x that begins with an f...  :P

Hehe. And how could he possibly be producing viable sperm when his, ahem, stuff is venom and his body temperature is so cold? I'm pretty sure the nuts need to be around 35-36 degrees C to produce sperm. Not to mention need blood and the fact their venom is you know, poisonous and all that....

Oh, and I found another one: "Wow, you are a beautiful site to wake up to."  :D :D :D
