I always just figured their blood was replaced with their venom, so any erections would be from venom filling their willies. This is why they should always wear condoms when sleeping with human, wouldn't the venom change them if they had any abrasions, say, from rough sex? Do I not remember that actually being a part of one of the Bella/Jasper fics? Carlisle telling Bella NOT to swallow? :D Maybe Colliding Meteors?

I always thought the same thing (venom replaces blood), I've read a lot of fics that say what you've mentioned-venom seeping from wounds

And I think it is Colliding Meteors

I think a big problem is, all these fics kind of feed off of each other's ideas, and we start to forget what was originally said about things and what new writers have come up with.  Like the God of War title for Jasper that was coined in Colliding Meteors, but I have seen in at least one (I'm thinking I've seen 2) other fic.

I've seen several fics using The God of War from Colliding Meteors but i've seen them all credit idreamofeddy for it. I absolutely love that term.

Not sure if you saw it, but Chippy rec'd Rosalie's Baby yesterday, and it's a very good fic...J/B. Love Major Impulse Control lol. Which one did you decide to go with reading?

It's not really our fault the SM created the most non-canon vampires out there. The Saga itself has plenty of inconsistencies.
They drink blood, but have non of their own. No saliva, just poison. No tears. No sweat. But they got semen all right  :D
It's just so confusing... I am certain I once came across a fic where Edward was sweating poison :o (Flounced it after that and erased the title from my mind. :P)

One thing that I wonder about is the fact that it takes months for the eyes to change from red to amber once you start feeding on animals, but one slip up with a human and they're instantly red?  Hmm...
You held out your hand, and I took it without stopping to make sense of what I was doing. For the first time in almost a century, I felt hope.

Okay so I've kind of put Nerd Story aside for a while so I can get over the annoyance of her misuse of words and am now reading Firefly in Summer by primary colors.  It is well written, and so far, I've only found one wrong word, you don't normally have currants in the ocean.  My mind of course sees raisins in the water  :D :D

But I would definitely rec this one.....

Does anyone here use twiwrite.net? I just discovered this one recently, and I'm liking it so far. I love the way you can filter stories by pairing, content, warnings, etc. But there's one thing I wish I could do that I don't seem to be able to do.

I wish I could filter OUT the one-shots and shorties. I prefer stories with some meat behind them, but there are SO many shorts to sort past. Is there a way to do this there? I know you can get it to show ONLY one shots, but is there a way to filter them out of the search results?

You can filter by number of words - so that will usually eliminate one-shots because most are under 10,000 words.   I've used TwiWrite for a few years now, but haven't had much luck sourcing new stories there.   It is technically similar to TWCS and Twilighted in the way they site is set up, so there are limitations and I still prefer to read live on FF.net.   But, yes, I do like the site and I wish more writers would post there because they are more lenient with things but don't require a validation beta like Twilighted does.
Thanks to all those who have shared stories with me, and "you're welcome" to those who have enjoyed mine!

It's on my TBR list. I just realized why I never started it, I mixed the author with someone else who writes slash. Don't know why I thought it would end up having slash in it.

LOL I'm still new enough to fanfic that they're pretty  much all new to me. How do I filter by word count though? I didn't see that anywhere.

I've mostly gotten stuff here and ff.net, with a few odds and ends on Twilighted.

Gah - another pet peeve of mine.  Are vamps actually cold, or would they just be room temperature?  I mean, they can soak up heat from the sun, right? (or is that just fic canon).

If Edward is in bed with Bella, he shouldn't be making her cold.  He would be the same temp as the room and then maybe he'd heat up to her temp?

In all honesty, I only ever read the books once so I forget what is true as per the books and what is widely accepted in ficdom.

The way SM described them was that they were freezing cold, or at least that was the impression I got (I too only read them once, I don't even think I made it all the way through BD). However this doesn't make sense to me, I agree they should be ambiant temperature.

Although anything below normal human temperature (so 37 degrees) will feel cool/cold to the touch, so they would at least feel cool. If he slept in bed with her, eventually I always assumed that he would warm up to her temperature, not him keep her constantly cool.

I've read this and I quite enjoyed it although I gave it the flick a few times and came back to it too (although this often happens with me and HS fics). It's not the most compelling read in that it didn't hold my interest a couple of times when other fics crossed my path. Also the accents irked me a tad. But I did end up reading the whole thing in the end. It was pretty light hearted if I remember rightly and has a HEA. And after all that rather unhelpfulness: I think it's worth the read, it definitely held my interest more as the fic went on.

As per SM vamps are ice cold, so much so that makes Bella shiver every time she lies next to Edward, they have to have a duvet separating them. Hence the reason why in Breaking Dawn Edward chooses a hot temperature destination so that his coldness would come in handy when they are lying in bed together, he would technically be cooling her down...I don't think he would eventually get warmer, SM's vamps are unchangeable.

I don't understand this, how can they possibly keep themselves so cold? lol, if they can't regulate their temperature to keep themselves warm I don't understand how they could do it to keep cool. Although I suppose she may have run with the whole 'hard as marble' aspect, cause marble is usually pretty cold.

I always thought there was somewhere in the books when it was mentioned that Edward was slightly warmer after having beenn in the sun, but I suppose it was just a fic then. Can't tell one from the other anymore...

Well that is a very good question... although it will probably have to do that they don't have real blood flowing of their own; but our imagination could come with a lot of answers for this one   :P

I think you've hit the nail on the head; SM's vamps have the characteristics of marble and as such their temperature is constantly cold,  they don't have blood running around their veins regulating their body temperature the way humans have. They don't "keep themselves" cold, they just are.

I don't remember Edward being warmer after being in the sun...The only mention I can remember about him having a change in temperature was when Bella woke up after her transformation and freaked because he felt warm to her
