I think you've hit the nail on the head; SM's vamps have the characteristics of marble and as such their temperature is constantly cold,  they don't have blood running around their veins regulating their body temperature the way humans have. They don't "keep themselves" cold, they just are.

I don't remember Edward being warmer after being in the sun...The only mention I can remember about him having a change in temperature was when Bella woke up after her transformation and freaked because he felt warm to her

This is one of my peeves too.  In the meadow scene I believe they talk about how Edward feels warm while lying in the sun.  I'm an interior designer and I work with marble and granite all the time.  Most of you have it in your homes.  It's a material that conducts heat, and if you warm it, it will take on the temperature of that heat.  If you stick it in the sun, it will warm and even get hot.  If you stick in in a bathtub
Thanks to all those who have shared stories with me, and "you're welcome" to those who have enjoyed mine!

If you stick a piece of marble in a warm bath, it will warm to the temperature of the water. Same if you were to lay naked on a slab...it would warm to your body temperature and eventually not feel cold.  Always baffled me that Edward didn't warm up when laying with Bella - although I guess they never tried the hot tub, hot showers or actual Skin-On-Skin contact!!!   LOL!

I was just wndering if anyone has read Fatty or Recovering Fatty by kitkat681.
I've never read any over weight Edward FF and was wondering if anyone had read these and if they thought they were any good.

Fatty
Edward Cullen can't find something that's very important to him...his wang. But that's what happens when you are 363 pounds. Bella Swan is his only chance to live a real life and find what's missing and so much more. No angst, a tiny bit of drama. Rated M

So in reality Edward is just a slab of sparkly marble with a brain and fangs. Oh SM, why did you create such strange vamps?

I know marble dissipates heat quite quickly, which is why it cools down rapidly however I also know that it takes less heat energy to warm marble up than it does wood (Oh the joys of High school Physics). So technically if they lay in the sun they should get somewhat warmer, even if they would lose that heat fairly rapidly.

SO, I guess the key to keeping Edward warm and not allow him to lose that heat would be to keep him on a low boil, right?!   :D

No?...Their blood isn't replaced by venom? Their saliva is...When they rip each other apart it's just "stone", I'm going by the original Twilight mind you.... :D are we really debating this? And yes, I know it's my fault as I brought it up as a pet peeve!

Oh and here is another one,
I handed him a cigarette, which he accepted " I feel like such an embacil

I'm telling you Ex Factor is swimming in this kind of nonsense, I really want to flounce but I'm on page 984! Might as well stick it out, right?

WELCOME BACK RDMickey!! :-*

If you check out the FAQ section of Breaking Dawn on Stephanie Meyer's website below, she gives a good explanation of how the whole male erection works.

"Vampires are physically similar enough to their human origins to pass as humans under some circumstances (like cloudy days). There are many basic differences. They appear to have skin like ours, albeit very fair skin. The skin serves the same general purpose of protecting the body. However, the cells that make up their skin are not pliant like our cells, they are hard and reflective like crystal. A fluid similar to the venom in their mouths works as a lubricant between the cells, which makes movement possible (note: this fluid is very flammable). A fluid similar to the same venom lubricates their eyes so that their eyes can move easily in their sockets. (However, they don't produce tears because tears exist to protect the eye from damage, and nothing is going to be able to scratch a vampire's eye.) The lubricant-venom in the eyes and skin is not able to infect a human the way saliva-venom can. Similarly, throughout the vampire's body are many versions of venom-based fluids that retain a marked resemblance to the fluid that was replaced, and function in much the same way and toward the same purpose. Though there is no venom replacement that works precisely like blood, many of the functions of blood are carried on in some form. Also, the nervous system runs in a slightly different but heightened way. Some involuntary reactions, like breathing, continue (in that specific example because vampires use the scents in the air much more than we do, rather than out of a need for oxygen). Other involuntary reactions, like blinking, don't exist because there is no purpose for them. The normal reactions of arousal are still present in vampires, made possible by venom-related fluids that cause tissues to react similarly as they do to an influx of blood. Like with vampire skin—which looks similar to human skin and has the same basic function—fluids closely related to seminal fluids still exist in male vampires, which carry genetic information and are capable of bonding with a human ovum. This was not a known fact in the vampire world (outside of Joham's personal experimenting) before Nessie, because it's nearly impossible for a vampire to be that near a human and not kill her."

For some reason this just makes it all seem even more ludicrous to me.  :D But thanks for clearing it up…somewhat. :P

Um, yeah.  And what's up with:

Doesn't that go against everything else in the books?  Vamps (even nomads) were around humans all the time without killing them.  I mean, sooner or later they must get full up, right?
You held out your hand, and I took it without stopping to make sense of what I was doing. For the first time in almost a century, I felt hope.

Being near humans and have s e x with them is not really the same thing. IMO. I think that is what she is refering to when she says that they can't be that near a human and not kill her. Even Edward almost ends up bitting Bella on their wedding night, what with the whole pillow bitting and feathers everywhere scene. Not to mention that the Cullens are like most vampires.

Meant to say Cullen's aren't like most vampires.

I agree, it is ludicrous! There was nothing in the first 3 books that made reference to any of that stuff; SM just threw it out there when she decided to impregnate Bella. Hence the length explanation....

But the Denali sisters did it all the time, or is that fic canon, too?

Especially if Bella smells as good to Edward as the books constantly rave on about, even though they are not ‘typical’ vamps she does always harp on about how instinctual they are, and how they are ruled by their ‘animal instincts’. If this was the case there would be no humans left and Bella would have been bye-byes in the first few chapters or whatever.

I'm pretty sure she mentions the Succubus but I think in regards to the Denali sisters it may be fic cannon, although I'm not 100% since I've only read them once...But that crazy vamp who went around impregnating all those women managed to not kill any of them outright. So...

Yes the Denali sisters did it too, but if I recall, they started out killing the male humans at first, and the adapted later.

Nope, that's not fic canon, it's canon. The Denali sisters had sexual relations with men...which is why the Twilight series doesn't really stand up to hard scrutiny because it makes no sense...

Forget hard scrutiny, it hardly stands up to any scrutiny! Just reading them I picked up on so many inconsistencies it was almost painful. Unless you just gloss the surface the whole thing is just a bunch of haphazard ideas that when put together contradict each other.

Yeah, you're right Illabeth, you have to totally suspend all thoughts of piecing the separate narratives together to make a whole. And my fear is that in a few years they'll build these books into the curriculum as required reading in secondary schools!!  :D
