Ouch, mine is luckily nowhere near that complicated - just changing all to PDF, organising into alphabetized folders and then importing into Calibre. How many fics do you have, crazy lady? I have around 9000, so I can't imagine how many you have  :o I'll see you on one of those documentaries about people who fill their house with everything they've ever owned if you're not careful ;).
I'm just thankful everything is on my laptop and not taking up actual physical space in my house, I don't even want to think about that.

Oh holy moley! Can you even imagine if all the rubbish on your computer took up actual physical space. I'd not be able to move in my house. As it is, it's already pretty difficult.

I organise all mine alphabetically by author, for some reason my OCD won't allow me to have authors stories split up. I don't use calibre but I'm thinking now I possibly should...it's all getting a little out of control.

I keep them all on external drives too, I lost one a couple of months ago and as a result I'm down a couple of thousand fics some of which I know I'll probably never be able to replace...I hate computers sometimes... >:(

I'm so paranoid about my fics, that I have them duplicated on 2 8Gb flash drives and an external hard drive.  After losing too many things, I have at least 2 copies of everything in my computer. Hard drives are cheap... :D :D

2 gbs? That's all?  Sigh, I wish it were that easy.  I'm moving the organizing to Calibre now that I've discovered all these nice things about it.

Only I started to organize on my one computer and then worked on my laptop.  Now it's all a mess.  I swore I got all these stories in here already.   :33: :pulling:

Though I have to say, importing epubs? Yeah, so great.  The fanficdownloader app will find the URL in the epub & then I can grab the metadata which includes the summary.  And actually, the mobis I had just required me to change them to epubs first.  But still, it is a lot of work. :o

I really do need to work on these hoarder tendencies......

 ;)

I found storing FFs in Calibre means I can organise them anyway I want at a touch of a button, author, title, date of import etc...And your right Ella, importing them with the fanfiction downloader which imports the metadata means I can also organise by tags so actor, HS etc I also have a separate FF PDF folder of all the FFs on my desk top and everything backed up on an external hard-drive, so everything is in triplicate! Yeah, the idea of losing my stuff keeps me up at nights  :D

okay my ebooks folder that is primarily fanfiction has almost 75K files.  There are a lot of duplicates and triplicates, because it is totally unorganized.  I have these files in 2 locations and a little here and a little there.  Basically I may download onto my laptop or desktop, then I copy to my network drive and from the network drive to the second drive on my desktop.  This is why I am slowly putting stuff into Calibre.  There are only 2000 in my Calibre, but some need to go because there are not stuff I will read.

If these were all real books, I would be on that Hoarders show.  Luckily, I am better at cleaning out stuff around the house that on the computer  :D

OMG yes, my house would be a mess.  Okay, my house is a mess, but that is more because I would rather read than spend 4 hours trying to make my floor look clean.  There are problems with being a perfectionist - if I do it I want it to look perfect.  It never does.  So I give up.  It's not a good thing. :banghead:  :17:
You will love Calibre because if you import them right, it puts them in folders by author.  It seems to like epub the best though.

I'm beginning to love Calibre - I use the count pages and count words as well.  Now I have to go through and mark the type of Ward and whether I've read it, etc....  That is going to take time. Sigh.

Calibre is awesome. I tag the fics with the - ward, genre, Peter, Jasper, etc so searching is so easy; esp when I'm in the mood for something specific.

May be a silly question and I haven't looked in depth yet, but is there a way to back up your entire calibre library, so you would have your tags,  summaries (I had to manually add all of the pdf ones and it took forever)?

Matron-you may have already read this one, but I just finished The Path to My Soul (very good)  and it actually has a very likable Edward and Alice :)

I think if you copy the full folder it will keep the metadata with the files. :)

I'm copying and pasting one of those fics into Word so that I can take all those damn ! away,

I'm on page 20 (so probably chapter 3) and I've found and replaced 240 exclamation points. 240!!!

LOL! I'm assuming you are talking about The Screamers ....I loved Rob in that one.  Wait until you get to the part about the subway.  Yeah, so funny.

Oh my lordy, i just have to pause my reading and say :wtf:  have hit the angst part, the clusterf***  ch 17-19 ???  I really hope the light will soon shine in this story as that penthouse scene was very painful  :'(

Ok, i will hold on to the thought that this is a HEA... And that subway part is still something to look forward to... **takes a deep breath and dives in again**

Am at chapter 14 of this one and i love it so far. Rob has met Edward by this time. Funny yet weird but i liked the way it was handled. Now i get the Giney and Godzy references  :P
Oh Godzy and Giney - always makes me laugh especially Gineyland USA.  :D

I was exactly the same the first time I read The Screamers (read it at least a dozen times since  :D ), but the angst is definitely worth it

Does anyone know on Calibre if there's a way to retrieve the covers/metadata of PDFs, or will I have to find the URL and add them through the FFDL plugin? If that's the only way then I'm stuffed as half the PDFs I have are pulled ones. Oops.

Summary: Bella's obsession with wristwatches & her preoccupation with the Sky God next door coalesce in a serendipitous way. Birthday onehsot for Michelle. It's Rochelle Allison, so of course it's good. Lemony, sweet and only ~6000 words. Wish I had a Watchward of my own  ;)

I'd be interested in finding that out too. At the moment what I've know noticed is that if you load a PDF with a cover (created via Flag.com) the cover is saved but then you have no metadata, but if you load a story via FF Downloader you get meta but no cover... >:D

Looking for a story...
« Reply #2194 on: November 29, 2012, 07:12 PM »
Hello, hello!  First and foremost, LOVE this site and I'm beyond excited that I found it!  RL (job, chores etc) are just not going to happen for a while, hah!  Thanks!
I'm looking for a story that was pulled a while ago.  I want to say that the title was, Counting On The Rain, but I could be wrong.  Bella was committed to an institution and later on the Cullens took her out and helped her through things and heal over time but she was diagnosed with a mental illness as well.  A cop (who was undercover at the time) was in there as well trying to get the dr who killed his wife who was a patient there as well.  Anyone know of this fic?
I'm also looking for a few other fics in PDF format
Hydraulic Level 5
For The Summer
Take The Ice
There was also a fic where Edward was a Hawaiian surfer (loaded, bitchy mother, rivaled Jacob etc) and Bella went to go live with Alice there for a while.  Paradise something I think?  Any ideas?

I loved Watch me.

I'm having trouble pulling metadata from anything but epubs.  I have been converting, then I search for URLs, then I can get metadata.  Of course, it has to still be on ffnet or twilighted or TWCS, or you are SOL.

I've been SOL on a number of them. :P

Well, it definitely gets better immediately! Back to smiling in ch 20  :) tolerable angst though thought i was going to bail after what james forced bella to do. Super glad i found my b a l l s to continue reading as i love this fic! Am at ch 31 now and you're right, Rob is adorable here. A bit weird referencing a real guy here but it worked for me  ;) Ella, still haven't reached the subway scene! But am laughing at these characters antics so much  :D
