I agree with u.I have kind of love-hate relationship with cara's story. Some of her stories are best i have ever read & some of are so worst that  i cant belive its written by same writer. I am not sure that problem is genre here because she has done pretty good job in writing diff type of  fics like close your eyes, River, NFW, White picket what?, Simply Edward, I remember december,Grand tale, Grand Vendetta. But yeah  Some time she gets  overboard with plot & characters.Like her story It's Sign is Too much fluffy & sugary sweet  for my liking & Isla da cullen, More are filled with  too much adult stuff , its cringe worthy :P & some of her stories are i dont know basically no plot nothing, just another average twi FF.Its like why she even wrote that.she could have used idea & plot into other well-developed story of her.

Its good thing that now i read 2 chapters & can decide whether i want to continue it or not.Like right now i am reading  Grand Vedetta but didnt like her other christmas story & this life.

I love a lot of her work, but I flounced This Life too, I really didn't like it at all. I can't remember if I made it to chapter 12 but to me it got progressively worse/ more annoying. It was so ridiculous and the secondary characters annoyed the bugger out of me, I just couldn't deal with it at all. At least she wasn't getting Irish and Scottish mixed up though like one mob story I read recently. If I were you I would give up and move onto one of her other *cough*better*cough* stories.  One I quite enjoyed if you're looking for something short was 539 Minutes, it's only a two shot, short and sweet.
Well, stubborn, Flounce P.u.s.s.y that I am I persevered and finished This Life, though I have to say I skimmed a hell of a LOT of the story, all the middle bits where the repetition and the expectations on the reader to suspended reality takes us into the Twilight Zone (1959 version not 2005!)

On a different note: I have started to read The Vagina Monologue by Jtmd24; so funny! I'm only a few pages in but every thought this author has had regarding pregnancy, child birth and children I share! It's like she's reading my mind...Damn!  :D :D :D

One-shots
« Reply #2503 on: December 08, 2012, 01:38 PM »
I hate one-shots, I really have no patience for them...I'm being totally honest, They. NOT ALLOWED. Me. Off! I am invariably left in one of two distinct places of frustration. Wanting more if the shot is very good, with the double downer that there is never any chance of there ever being any more, unlike an incomplete multi-chap where you can maybe hold on to a glimmer of hope that the author may, someday, in a distant, magical future, come back and finish said abandoned WIP. Or "that's 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back why did I break my cardinal rule of not reading one-shots this is what I get for not listening to my instincts" if it's crap. Either way I can't win. Case in point JTMD24's In Your Room:wtf: Nope, I'll state again one-shots are not for me....

While I agree that you are often left wanting more if the one-shot is really good, although if the story is well written with a clear end I'm fine. I don't hate them and they really don't annoy me (unless they finish on a real cliffie), in fact I more often than not really enjoy the quick, sharp, shortness of them. If I just feel like something quick and I don't have time for a longer story they are great, also if I want a quick break from whatever longer story I am reading.

I most often read them in between longer stories on my TBR list. If I've just read something sad, then I'll find myself a nice little humourous one, or something all squishy and love-y, or if I'm about to start something angst-y I may read one that is the same to let me know if I am in the mood for such a story. They can be useful little things.

Although if it is crap, then you get that wasted time feeling, although I have been known to give one-shots the flick, it's no more (and more often less) time wasting than if you read a couple of chapters of a crappy longer story that you end up giving the flick.

I just finished reading Could Be Worse, Right by Savage... to say I wasn't disappointed would be a lie.
I've read all her stuff, well now and I was extremely disappointed and dissatisfied with the whole fic. I get what she was saying and how it got there but I just feel jipped.
Has anyone else read this and left with the same feeling?

Can't say I've read that one. I usually stay away from one-shots for the same reason. I'm usually left wanting more. I've only found one that I was happy with the way it was written and tied up to a perfect ending.

it's been a while since I read Could be Worse, Right?, but I know when I finished that I wasn't particularly interested in reading it again.

I can't remember if I read that. But after UC I don't read her fics unless they are complete and I've been warned about its contents.

I rarely read one shots. Mainly because if they are good I end up begging for more.

This one wasn't as bad or graphic as some that I've read. I just felt, blah after.

I felt so betrayed by UC. The whole Angela thing. It just seemed like angst for the sake of angst.

The other fic I felt betrayed was mens Rea. I haven't read the alternate ending tho.

I liked UC but I'm with you on the Angela part. I've never read Mens Rea. I've heard good and bad things about it. I do know that I started it but I have a hard time reading fics in that tense. I have to really love it. This one I couldn't get into.

Since English is not my first language I don't pay much attention to grammar. But I do to spelling.

With fanfic since no one was getting paid while writing it I find that I can tolerate some stuff that I won't while reading a book.
So what really bothers me are plot twists. And now after years of reading twi fic some clichés. Bella biting her lip. misunderstandings caused by tanya.
I can be very lenient with typos tho.

I am afraid my English is getting worse with so many errors around.... :o

English is a stupid language. Why does there need to be 3 different spellings for the same word and they all mean something different... no other language is this ridiculous. That being said, we're all taught these things in grade school so I don't understand spelling errors either.

Hitting two topics at once - I just read savage7289's one-shot, Want No More.  I like it.  She teases at the end saying she might continue it with the right review response.  However, it's still a one-shot.  I want more.

Oh hell yeah!!! This O/S was frigging awesome! It definitely needs to become a multi chapter fic :) She did both E & B POV if I remember correctly
