  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #5 - We are crazy talkers here! Join in the fun!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

I love vampfics.  But Demaris is right.  It is hard to find good ones.  For every good one out there, there are so many bad ones.

I have Carpe Noctem on my to read list, but it didn't grab me, so it is still sitting there.  I have liked AWTFA which was good.

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - This one was funny & I liked it.  But there a a LOT of SPaG errors.  Most of them add to the funniness.

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - Edward is not a 108 year old vampire.  He was turned by James who got interrupted while feeding.  It was different.

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - Edward is tired of high school, so he is going to be a private eye.  Mostly he finds lost cats. It is funny. :)

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - this is somewhat more canon.  Bella tells Jacob she doesn't love him after he kisses her.  I put off reading this for a long time because I hate that scene.  But it turned out to be a great story.

There were a couple more I liked but I'm not finding them.  I usually go for the humorous stuff.

Otherwise, I really like the Angel series.

I think I might start the Angel series next as once I read two chapters of Carpe I realised I'd already gone down this road!  :-[ :banghead: :57:

Charlaine Harris wrote a couple other mystery series and single mystery stories that I loved.  But for some reason? I just couldn't get into Sookie Stackhouse.  And of course, that is the one everyone writes on.

I thought I would like Vampire Diaries.  I think I watched 2 episodes.  The back and forth between the past and present got annoying after a while.  And the good brother/bad brother.  Yeah. Just didn't grab me.  Though I appreciated how hot they are.  Much hotter than Eric. Or Bill.  :D :D :D

I loved her Harper Connelly series, but after the absolute MESS she made of the end of the Sookie series, and the piece of utter CRAP that they sold readers as After Dead, I will NEVER buy another of her books. Never read any Sookie fics, I just don't know that I cared enough about any of the characters to bother. Maybe, someday.

I never read After Dead.  l only read the first 2.  I didn't really enjoy the first. I hoped the second would get better, but it didn't.  And I read them before True Blood came out.

But I loved the Harper Connelly ones, the Aurora Teagarden ones, and the Shakespeare mysteries.  I just didn't think she did the vamp thing really well.  LOL! I obviously know nothing....

Hmm.  I never read the books. I read a couple of that other teen vamp series.  Vampire Academy? It was decent.  But I then I discovered fanfiction.  So I never went back....  :D :D :D

I really liked Vampire Academy and that was a series that got better as it went... I think by the time I got to book 3 I was hooked and couldn't put them down.

I read the first 8 SS books but was never just crazy about them...  they seemed to get worse over time and I finally just quit reading them.  The last book got horrible reviews if I remember correctly.   I wonder why it was so poorly received?

I like the Vampire Diaries series but I'll admit it's had a few dud episodes.   I can't get enough of that high school vampire stuff! LOL

I started watching the Vampire Diaries show, then I read the first book. I HATED Elena in the book, she was such a little witch, and so I never felt the urge to read any further, and it kinda soured me on the show too, haven't watched since the first season ended.

I loved Vampire Academy though, and hope they don't totally screw up the movie. The books did get better and better, but I was mildly disappointed by the last one. I don't remember why though, lol!

Have you seen the trailer?  I'm not sure if there is more than one out, but the one I saw was pretty awful.   And I like cheesy teen movies like this typically.    So, you were disappointed in the last book...  I'd love to know why!  I remember being swept away by the last ones. :)

I thought the same thing, it looks more like some Gossip Girl shit than Vampire Academy. And you couldn't even see Dimitri!

I need to reread the series, refresh myself on what was disappointing. I didn't NOT like it, I just didn't LOVE it. And I think my review got wiped on GR when I deleted my account.

I've noticed that I'm not abnle to read supernatural fic anymore... no vampires only humans... Has someone of you felt the same for a period? Has it passed?  :o

I do prefer AH, but I've had a pretty good run lately with Heat by Princess Rachael and Grasping Darkness by KiyaRaven.

If they are well-written, I'll read anything.

LOL - who am I kidding? Even if it's crap, I'll read it!  :-[

I did notice though that Lauren popped in (belated greetings my fellow islander)

I think you got Lauren confused with Illabeth. Lauren is Lellabeth on ff.net and Illabeth is MY fellow islander.

A friend lent me the Season 1 DVD a couple of years and I hated the first few eps, but then suddenly, I was hooked and watched Season 2 in a weekend and then d/l'ed the rest and caught up . I'm starting to lose interest a little now, but I'm keen to see The Originals, which starts airing here later this month - unless I download it before then!

I still haven't read the last 2 in the SS series. Books 1-8, I devoured in a few weeks and then waited for the rest to be released. It just dragged on and didn't go anywhere.

Dimitri? There seems to be a shortage of names in the Vamp fiction world!

Some one shots that I recommend:

From the Ashes by FarDareisMai2
Loving the Alien by AgeOfEdward
A Vonat The Train by brodeurgirl30
Bereit by GothicTemptress

All of them are available on Fanfiction.net
All of them are Holocaust one shots.
Bereit and From the Ashes are written by a family member of Holocaust survivors.

Thank you for these recs - I just d/l'ed all four and put them into a compilation. (PM if you would like it emailed).

That might sound depressing to some of you, but visiting Dachau Concentration Camp was one of the most humbling and moving experiences of my life.

I saw an episode of the Originals. I haven't quite figured out if it is any good.  It is a little different.  But I probably won't watch it. I have a hard time getting into the CW shows for some reason.

I guess I could watch True Blood on Netflix.  But really? Unless the characters are different from the books in a better way? Not really interested.
