  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #5 - We are crazy talkers here! Join in the fun!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

If you want to go inside the Statue of Liberty, you need to get an appointment now.  We didn't know this and only found out when we got there that the next available slots were almost a year later.  It was crazy.  And you can still go to Liberty Island without the appointment.  You just can't go into the statue.

Also? There is some deal  you can buy a coupon book for a bunch of different things like Liberty Island, Ellis Island and the Empire State Building for a lot less than going to all the sites individually.  I think it included a museum or two as well.

Chicago has a great river tour that goes into Lake Michigan - I enjoyed that.  I actually liked the John Hancock building better than Sears Tower - it is no longer Sears Tower.  But that was because you could go up to the viewing deck at night there and the lights were gorgeous.  The Sears Tower was so fogged in the day I went, it was almost worthless.  it's been a while since I was there, so there may be changes.

And Seattle - My favorite thing is Pike's Place Market.  There are a lot of stores around there. It is fun. I like the ferries and the waterfront is really nice.   If you have a car, you can spend a day at Mt Rainier and see snow in the summer.

All I know about Atlanta is the airport.  And I don't really recommend it!  There is the Coca Cola Factory there.  I think the HQ is based out of there.  I've heard good things about it.

Hope you have fun!

Seattle has a similar coupon book - you get into a few museums, the aquarium, a boat tour and the Space Needle.  If you sign up on the Space Needle website they usually give you a coupon for a free dessert or something.  We went for a late lunch (cheaper than dinner) and had a great time - getting up in the tower included and you can make reservations online.  We then used the ticket from the coupon book to go up another evening to see the city at night.  If you like macaroni and cheese - the Icon Grill has some that three years later my daughter still talks about...and on Wednesday, Icon has Washington State wines half price and great (they'll cork it and you can take what you don't finish with you.)  The original Starbuck's is also a good place to grab some coffee (lol).

When I have some good ideas about NY I will pass them on, it is hard to think like a visitor to your home town.

Sounds like a great trip!

So my trip to the US in 2014 is booked and paid for!

I leave home on 20 June and arrive in New York (after nearly 48 hours of travel!) on the evening of 21 June.

I'm visiting NYC - 21 June to 25 June.
Atlanta - 25 June to 29 June.
Chicago - 29 June to 3 July
Seattle - 3 July - 9 July.

Quick stop at LAX then back to Brisbane on 11 July and then home on Sunday, 13 July. Then another week off work to recover.

I'm so excited! I need to know what I need to see and do in each city, and if anyone is close by to meet in person!

Any travel tips? Secrets only the locals know? Places to avoid?

Think of me while in NYC and maybe I will get your ESP message here on Long Island.  Enjoy your trip

Ohhhh, I'm dying to do a USA road trip but I can never get that much time off all in one go....I am off to Altanta next year too, but I'm planning September to avoid the excessive heat.

The West village is my favourite area in Manhattan, I've been visiting every year since I was 18. I could wax on for ages about my favourite spots, from an 'out of towner' viewpoint that is :D But to counteract Ella's window shopping idea I have one word, Century21! And Johns of Bleecker St is a must for a good ol' NY pizza.

Are you just stopping over in LA airport or will you get to actually to see some of the city, if so try to get in a drive from LA to Geoffrey's in Malibu it's one of my favourite restaurants in the world! And try and get a hike in, go up Fryman or Runyon Canyon, it's free and on a clear day you get an amazing view of LA.

Now on to fics. I've just finished reading What Hurts The Most by Beegurl13; all I can say is please someone shoot me now.

I have a link to my google docs at the bottom of my posts - it is my Calibre library.  I pretty much get all the new E/B stuff and some of the other stuff.  Though I don't have all the older ones.  And? You have to use the search function to find anything with it.  I have trouble as I have multiple gmail accounts.  This one had the empty drive.   ;D

Bec of that article, i figured they kept some old trucks so it would be easier to transport their dogs? I don't think dogs would be comfortable in sports or other luxury sedans (not to mention the possible "damage" they can do to cars). Plus maybe they are really just down to earth folks, which i like, not flaunting their wealth through expensive cars. Isn't it Rob likes craiglist and haggling? Wouldn't be surprised if he got his truck from there, like his first car in the US a few years ago  :)

Yes, I also like to hope that maybe they are just down to earth folks that don't need to show off with fancy vehicles.  With that being said, I really like cars and I guess if I was super rich I'd drive something more fun.   But, to each his own, right?   At least Rob's blends in but I'd think everyone would know that was KS immediately.  Can't be many of those driving around LA.  :)

Sigh, was looking for a short but good actorward...this wasn't it, 2.5 stars  :(

Maybe bec i read this after the gravity series, my "bar" was raised and i expected better than average writing. It wasn't really that bad but i didn't connect with the characters...and it just ended "abruptly" for my liking. I read her other one Game, Set, Match and it was ok (3 stars). Don't rush to read this  :(

I'm always looking for a good famousward --- have you read The Man Who Can't Be Moved, Virgins & Villains or Rules of Hollywood?  I've got all those on my soonTBR list but haven't gotten around to them yet.    I did read Faking It (by spanglemaker9) and Sexy Silk and really liked both of those.

I had issues with all the websites. I was just typing in my info where YOURNAME ans YOURPASSWORD were:

Ex:
#username:YourName
#password:Yourpassword
## default is false
#collect_series: true

But I have discovered it doesn't like the # in front of the username nor the password. So for TWCS, as well as all the others, mine looks like this:

username:XXXXXXXX no spaces after the :
password:XXXXXXXX no spaces after the :
#is_adult:true
## default is false
#collect_series: true

This works for every site except for fictionpad (for me, anyway)
I have to type my username and password every single time. It's driving me crazy!!
What am I doing wrong?

TIA

I haven't read a fic for a few days as I haven't found one that that has held my interest.  I need something light and funny I think.

I have, however, started some seriously bad books - I cannot believe that some of these have actually been published.
I started the Decoy series by K.T. Fisher tonight and didn't make it past the second chapter it was that bad.  My children could have done a better job of editing.

One I would recommend is Isn't She Lovely by Lauren Layne.

Yes, I have a friend that warned me of the same...When would be a good time to go to at least not pass out as soon as you leave your front door?

Heyyyy!

End of Sept/beginning of Oct is usually good. 75-80 and unless we have a hurricane, it's relatively dry. Or Apr/May.
