Thread #5 - We are crazy talkers here! Join in the fun!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Heyyyy!

End of Sept/beginning of Oct is usually good. 75-80 and unless we have a hurricane, it's relatively dry.

Thank you Hon, I will take that under advisement as nothing has been booked yet..I like to be in the US for Labour Day to get to the sales but....yeah, as much as I love the sun, I know the South's heat is nothing to play with. I was in New Orleans one year and hid in my air-conditioned room 97% of the time :P  :D

EDIT I have finally got to the Gravity series in my Calibre Library. I'm on Chapter 4 and I wanted to ask, did y'all read the A/Ns at the beginning and end of each chapter? Because they are as long as the actually chapters themselves! As I rule I never bother and for some reason this chick is spoon-feeding me the plot like a Teleprompter; what is the meaning of this? Why?

If I remember correctly (which I may not) there were long gaps between chapters whilst it was a WIP.

I always try not to read A/N's but for whatever reason I get sucked into them - I remember reading a fic ages ago where the author was complaining about her life in all of her A/N's, that's what kept me reading to be honest as that was more exciting than the fic.  :D :D

I live in the desert. The dry heat is much better.

I normally read the AN's. I skipped them in B & G. Too much unnecessary stuff. ;)

Hey Rickell. I've not seen ya around of a while, how are the kids doing? Your daughter; school?

Mmmm? Maybe, but some of what she writes takes away the 'suspense' I'm just going to skip-to-my-lou as I normally do....

Yes dry desert heat I can take, all. Day. Long.

So much information, and it isn't  all '...in the last episode, blah, blah, blah' stuff...One A/N said something like  'In this chapter we're going to find out a bit more about Jasper's character' WTF?!  :D

I haven't read a fic for a few days as I haven't found one that that has held my interest.  I need something light and funny I think.

Light and funny?

I just read my way through Lady Gwynedd's fics, once again, and her Parma High is just fun.

And then I've read these:

Not bad, sometimes a bit rushed, Alice is annoying as ever, but that Bella was snarky and strange enough to keep me interested.

Summary: Edward is known as "The Heartless Lion" He is ruthless to anyone fool enough to try and befriend him. But can a woman's near fatal accident in a parking lot Warm his frozen heart? Can Bella Trust another Hard man after having suffered James' cruelty?

was just uploaded on 152...

That is a very very romantic, sweet story. Very lovely, I liked it, but it is really very sweet, cheesy, fairytale-like...

And now I'm reading my way through another favorite of mine: sunflowersongs!

Starting with:

When She Smiles

Story: When She Smiles

Category: Twilight

Last updated: 08/08/2011
Content: Chapter 1 to 31 of 31 chapters
Source: FanFiction.net

Summary: Edward and Bella humorously meet and fall in love, but something evil in Bella's past may ruin their future together. This is a love story, but there are dark, violent themes. Rated M for a reason.

Her stories are always very sweet, Edward and Bella and their interactions can cause you cavities but somehow she can pull it off.

Just started reading:

Hey, I'm good, just really busy with work and knackered the rest of the time.

Kids go back to school tomorrow - thank goodness - they drive me batty (or should I say their Grandparents as I am at work?) when they get bored.

My daughter is really enjoying her last year at primary school and is actually looking forward to going back for a change.

The bullying situation seems to have eased up since she stood up for herself and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way.

I have a link to my google docs at the bottom of my posts - it is my Calibre library.  I pretty much get all the new E/B stuff and some of the other stuff.  Though I don't have all the older ones.  And? You have to use the search function to find anything with it.  I have trouble as I have multiple gmail accounts.  This one had the empty drive.   ;D

I just finished this story too and I really appreciate the download Ella!

I am still having a terrible time trying to get some of the other download programs you guys have suggested since the FFN/Flag debacle.  I have always been able to work my way around a computer, but for some reason I seem to be brain dead when I try this.  I guess this is another "senior moment" as they like to say…

Yes, I also like to hope that maybe they are just down to earth folks that don't need to show off with fancy vehicles.  With that being said, I really like cars and I guess if I was super rich I'd drive something more fun.   But, to each his own, right?   At least Rob's blends in but I'd think everyone would know that was KS immediately.  Can't be many of those driving around LA.  :)

I'm always looking for a good famousward --- have you read The Man Who Can't Be Moved, Virgins & Villains or Rules of Hollywood?  I've got all those on my soonTBR list but haven't gotten around to them yet.    I did read Faking It (by spanglemaker9) and Sexy Silk and really liked both of those.

Yup, i've read those 5 already. TMWCBM was the second fanfic i ever read, with all the lemony goodness, and i loved it. VV is great too. Do read those now!

Training the Cullen by ivoryadulation is another actorward. Very angsty and quite a different bella. Put this in your TBR too  :)
"Movie star Edward Cullen is sent to Seattle Crime Lab to train for his next role. A one night stand with an alluring woman rocks his world but not as much as finding out she's his mentor, she doesn't remember him, and she's nothing like he thought."

Oh right! it was half term. Shoot! That's why there was so many kids wondering around the streets of London....Yeah, the bullying was what I was referring to, I'm glad it's gotten better. If it starts up again a brick in a handbag round the chops always does the trick, I hear.....

Hey Ladies! I step out a few days and there are so many pages. Never read any of the Sookie Stackhouse or the Vampire Diaries' books but I've watched the first few seasons of both TB and tVD, though not enough to stick with them. One of these days I'll watch everything online... I stopped watching TV about a year ago, so I have to catch up on Supernatural...I love them boys...yummmm.

Astro, if you want to see the Statue of Liberty but not actually go there, a great cheat is to just catch the Staten Island Ferry there and back. It's super cheap as it's public transportation and takes you right by it on the water--great for picks, but you don't get to walk around the bottom or anything. I did something similar when I visited Washington State (and Seattle) by taking a day trip to Victoria, Canada. While Victoria is a beautiful (English) island with a quaint feel (we visited the museum), you are quite likely to see whales in the harbor on your trek so there's no need to make a separate outing. Besides the nice pics taken during the travel, the one we booked had an all-you-can-eat Salmon dinner buffet that was fantastic!

Fic wise, I've been completely engrossed in drotuno's Angel series. I started last Wednesday and I'm almost finished with the third book. I really like these characters, (though she does write long A/Ns Demaris). So much is wrapped up I'm wondering what the fourth book has in store for me, but I'm looking forward to it with bells on. Whoohoo!

P.S. Thanks Ella for posting the link to that pirate story. It sounded good until I saw the link was for FFN, so thanks!

I have to ask...  Drotuno's Angel series has nothing to do with angels, right?  Or am I way off on that?   I just read the first book of the Guild Hunter series and loved it but don't want to read two angel books too close together. LOL

Glad to hear that your daughter's bullying situation seems to be sorted - I seriously don't get kids these days, they bully each other for no reason and they have more ways of doing it as well i.e. texting, FB, Twitter etc.
It's like seriously "Get a Life". I swear it's those types of peeps that are causing all the problems on FF.net.

This was my first book by this author and I am so impressed.   The book was on the shorter side, but she fit everything in just right.   I thoroughly enjoyed it!   My only problem is that now when I read the the sequel to Angelfall I'm going to be comparing my archangels!  ;-)

That's a good tip actually, the best way to cool down in the summer in NY is to get on the water, I remember doing that Staten Island ferry crossing numerous times in my young Uni Student days. Now I'm a member of Soho House, they have a pool on the roof of their NY branch :P :D

I'm totally ignoring all of Drotuno's A/Ns, they're just....nuts!

And I agree with the rec on the good story My Mate by PrincessRachael. It had little everything (a little smut, a little angst/drama, and a little action).  I also read the sequel My Power and liked that too!
