Thread #5 - We are crazy talkers here! Join in the fun!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

I tried that but since the fic has its own page on the blog (not individual posts) it doesn't have any posts to grab with the blog to book site.  :(
I don't think that program works on Wordpress or Livejournal accounts, only on Blogger, but I could be wrong!
Thanks to all those who have shared stories with me, and "you're welcome" to those who have enjoyed mine!

I have just finished the Love by Design series by J.R. James, some of it was a little annoying but on the whole it was a quick,  enjoyable read.

Christag, Do you have it set to download only new chapters?

I haven't done daily updates of my library of WIPs, so I haven't seen it before.  :P

When I get a new email update alert I manually go in and update the WIP in my Calibre library by clicking the FanFictionDL button on the Calibre toolbar then selecting "Update existing fan fiction book(s).  After that it checks to see if anything has changed compared to the current copy in the Calibre library. If nothing changes it gives the error message, if something has changed (usually more than 1,000 words) then it updates.

I did learn though, that you don't want to convert the story before the author has marked it complete and you have all your chapters b/c the converted copy will only have what you converted at that time. For example, I converted Compass by SparklingWand when it was only half way through b/c I had thought I was going to use it on my Kindle to get caught up. Then when the story completed I went to move it over into my Kindle to finish reading it.  The Mobi file was incomplete.  It was only up to where I had last converted it. But the ePub file that Calibre originally made (makes) when I updated it each time was complete.  So I had to delete the old Mobi file and re-convert.

Sadly I have 915 WIPs in my "In-Progress" list on my Calibre library. Some are old old old stories I know will never get updated but I don't have the heart to change them to "abandoned" as I have seen miracles happen and a story that hasn't updated in over 2 years finally gets finished.  It doesn't happen often but... I hold out for hope. LOL

But the question is, do you have it set to update only if new chapters. Sorry, couldn't help much yesterday as I wasn't home & my computer was off.  When you update existing, check the "Show Download Options" and verify the Update Mode is set to  Update EPUB if New Chapters.  It will normally look for a new chapter and update.  I haven't noticed a problem.

Yeah, the converted file doesn't update, unfortunately.  I normally only convert when they are done.  But I have done that before.  You get a big surprise when your kindle is telling you, the story is almost done yet you can tell, unless the ending is going to be rushed and not make any sense, that there is no way this will finish anytime soon.  Then you realize somehow, this was convertedd too soon....  :-\

LINK JiffyKate - Southern Comfort
« Reply #3368 on: January 05, 2014, 08:31 AM »
I've really been in the mood for Southern stories lately. Not sure why this itch developed. Anyway, I just finished Southern Comfort by JiffyKate, which is set in in a leisurely Louisiana. I enjoyed it, but I have no idea really why--there's plot, but a lot of fluff/realism too. In the end it was sweet and not too long. One of the outtakes was really funny. It was pulled from FFN & their blog, but I'm not sure why. I spotted it on the 152 thread in PDF, but found the epub in Ella's library.

Southern Comfort by JiffyKate
Genre: Humor, Romance
Characters: Bella, Edward
Status: Completed
Rating: M
Chapters: 27
Words: 127,084
Summary: Bella is a photojournalist from NYC and is wanting a change of pace. Edward is a southern playboy looking for a good time. Will they find what they need in each other? Who are we kidding? You know the story. We're just telling it with a southern spin.

Anyone have any Southern stories they'd like to rec? Any time period will do. I've enjoyed Hoodfabulous' writing as well as loving Counselor's work.

P.S. Thank you Ella once again for your library! Almost all the fics I download these days is from your library, and I really appreciate you sharing it with me (and everyone).

Thank you for the rec. This sounds good.  Here is a silly question (I'm fairly new here still) but what or where is this Ella's Library that you mentioned you found this in ePub?

The member Ellachanted (who is helping you with your Calibre question) has a link in her signature line to her shared Calibre library. It has A LOT of fics, in multiple formats. I'm usually looking for epubs, but I've seen she has some mobis also.

It's the Calibre Library link not the Google Docs link.  The Google Docs link will take you to the PDF collection I got from Scarlett Raven who doesn't come around much any more....  :(

The PDFs has some stories they won't actually post here because author's have requested us not to.  But because they are in zipped format? you have to download the zipped file and get all of it to get the ones you want.   ;D

There's a decent southern one by lesgirl where Bella is a travelling nurse, Edward plays the guitar, and the gang does a white trash Halloween where they all try to outdo each other in awfulness. It was pulled from FFN, maybe on her blog still.  I may have the authors name slightly off, I can't check since I'm not home, but I believe she has another story entitled the Breakers that was very popular (ex con Edward) you can find her under.

Oooh yeah Cotton Creek by rtgirl is a great one. I LOVED IT!

Summary: Bella is a travel nurse who moves every six months. Edward is a music teacher in a small southern town who gave up his Nashville dreams to return home. She never knew what a home was…until he gave her one. Fun/Fluff/Romance/No angst. Some citrus.
