There's a decent southern one by lesgirl where Bella is a travelling nurse, Edward plays the guitar, and the gang does a white trash Halloween where they all try to outdo each other in awfulness. It was pulled from FFN, maybe on her blog still.  I may have the authors name slightly off, I can't check since I'm not home, but I believe she has another story entitled the Breakers that was very popular (ex con Edward) you can find her under.

The Breakers is by les16

Oh, I really liked The Breakers. A good one. Thanks for the description on Cotton Creek, it seems to have jogged Christag's memory!

EDIT: I just started reading Cotton Creek and rtgirl thanks les16 as the prereader for it!

Oooh yeah Cotton Creek by rtgirl is a great one. I LOVED IT!

Summary: Bella is a travel nurse who moves every six months. Edward is a music teacher in a small southern town who gave up his Nashville dreams to return home. She never knew what a home was…until he gave her one. Fun/Fluff/Romance/No angst. Some citrus.

Thanks for this, this is such a good story, and I completely spaced on it. I was so excited when the outtake was posted this summer. I liked everything about this story and its AU rules for the vamps. I thought it was really funny--especially all the church signs and their strange sayings.

I've really been in the mood for Southern stories lately. Not sure why this itch developed. Anyway, I just finished Southern Comfort by JiffyKate, which is set in in a leisurely Louisiana. I enjoyed it, but I have no idea really why--there's plot, but a lot of fluff/realism too. In the end it was sweet and not too long. One of the outtakes was really funny. It was pulled from FFN & their blog, but I'm not sure why. I spotted it on the 152 thread in PDF, but found the epub in Ella's library.

Southern Comfort by JiffyKate
Genre: Humor, Romance
Characters: Bella, Edward
Status: Completed
Rating: M
Chapters: 27
Words: 127,084
Summary: Bella is a photojournalist from NYC and is wanting a change of pace. Edward is a southern playboy looking for a good time. Will they find what they need in each other? Who are we kidding? You know the story. We're just telling it with a southern spin.

Anyone have any Southern stories they'd like to rec? Any time period will do. I've enjoyed Hoodfabulous' writing as well as loving Counselor's work.

P.S. Thank you Ella once again for your library! Almost all the fics I download these days is from your library, and I really appreciate you sharing it with me (and everyone).

This is an Edward/Bella love story told from Edward's point of view. It is also a love story of the passions in life that bring two people together and the love of a city. Takes place in Charleston, SC. AH/Normal Couples/Rated M for content.
Twilight - Rated: M - English - Romance - Chapters: 37 - Words: 203,998 - Reviews: 757 - Favs: 634 - Follows: 259 - Updated: Sep 2, 2013 - Published: Oct 3, 2010 - Bella, Edward - Complete

I don't remember it particularly, just the name because it took place in Charleston, so it may be boring.

What would qualify a story as southern?  I was wondering if you would qualify Sideline Collision by Nolebucgrl as such since it takes place mostly in Florida.

Does Florida qualify as "Southern"?  They have so many people from the north living there.   ;D

plays in South and North Carolina... Is that southern? It definitely shows the change of pace...

otherwise, since I have not much present knowledge of American Geography, I don't care much where a story plays...

South Carolina is definitely Southern.  I'm never sure about North Carolina.  I know people who live there and I would call it Southern.  But they may not.

I think of Southern as being able to say F*ck you in such a way that the person to whom they are saying it, says "thank you!"  And then wonders, wait, what??  Plus they have the best sweet tea.  It's just not the same anywhere else.  And we won't even talk about biscuits and gravy.....

 :D :D :D I love that description!

It's so funny because I grew up in Miami, which I used to say was so far South that it's no longer Southern. The truth is that Southeastern Florida and many of the coastal towns aren't really what I'd consider the South, but a lot of Florida is full of Southern accents and a conservative mind set. My father and grandparents were from Virginia, which I definitely consider the South as it's south of the Mason–Dixon line. (While the Mason-Dixie was originally a land survey line, it morphed into a cultural distinction between the North and the South during the US Civil War that still has roots firmly planted today, with strong feelings in supporting state rights versus the federal government.)

While there is a more technical description on Wikipedia (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login), when I think of the South I think of a laid back pace of life full of passion about certain issues like music, food, guns and Bibles. Oh, and appearances too. Can't forget Southern hospitality! Just like every culture, there is a mix of liberals and conservatives in the South, but regardless of where one stands, many Southerners are passionate about their viewpoint. Thinking about the South makes me think of my grandma and her drawl when she'd say, "Hi Sugar! How's my beautiful brown eyes?" So I guess my feelings are nostalgic and sweet--like their tea--with a touch of fire--like their crawfish boil.

I hope I didn't write anything that came off pejorative as I really do like most aspects of Southern culture and I purposely avoided those typifying the negative aspects, but which exist. But for a fic to be Southern, I guess I'm looking for at least one of the above passions to show through--like descriptions of the love of their food or music. I'm hoping for a culture of family, whether it's good or bad.

Yeah, Southerners love their football, though my recent trip to Texas shed a new light on how passionate people can be about their ball! I guess it's a chance for people in rural areas to gather for a sense of community and identity while doing something fun (or at least more fun than Sunday church IMO).  :D

Yeah, it's hard to typify an area of the US that is probably larger than any Eurpopean country. And I've mostly visited the cities around the South with just day trips out here and there. But to pick a favorite, I do love New Orleans. What a great mix of people and passions!

I looked up the recipes of 5 different meatloaves and then went and did my own thing.  I used 1/2 pork sausage meat & 1/2 lean beef mince.  I finely chopped onions, carrots, pepper.  I had no breadcrumbs, so I cubed 3 slices of bread finely and added to the meat & veg mixture. I beat  egg, a little milk, a little tomato sauce & tom purée with salt & pepper and added garlic & chilli powder to taste. I beat this together and then added to meat mixture. I made sure everything was well mixed together and formed a loaf shape.  I baked that for about 1-1.15 on medium to high heat.  I made a glaze of tomato  sauce, English mustard and a little brown sugar and basted the loaf then covered it in tin foil.   I basted it often while cooking, taking the foil off for the last 5-10 minutes to brown.  it was very tasty.
In terms of spices etc, use what you like or have.  (I did).  ;)
I served it with a bake potato and green salad. (it's pretty rich).

WOW!  Sounds really good!  I will definitely be trying this one!   :)

Trust me - Virginia is a Southern state.    My youngest brother went to the University of Charlottesville,  met his wife there, got married there - her whole family is as Southern as you can get.   My nieces and nephew all have a Southern accent and my brother no longer sounds like he's originally from Maine.

I finished up I'm Still Holding On by sushiloveswhitlock. Good, but not great, after waiting for so long to be able to read it. Bella/Jasper story, all about him finding her after Edward leaves, and them falling in love. REALLY long, but nothing really happens. Meet again, realize they are mated, fall in love, get married, Bella turns, Cullen and Volturi issues, happy family, blah blah blah, happy family, you're my family, the end.

Speaking of the south, I'm in South Carolina, and people always look at me weird because I don't like sweet tea. But mmm sausage gravy! Fried okra! Cornbread (yes, NOT sweet!) and milk, and now I'm hungry. Ok I was already hungry, but my stomach just let out a huge growl. Better get hubby to hurry up with my dinner!
