Did you read Susan Ee's Angelfall? I downloaded it, but haven't read it yet. I saw there's a third book coming out in 2014. I heard good things about it. I haven't read any of the Divergent books, were they good? A busy fall for books, I'm looking forward to the last Gabriel book as well as Sempre 2. I can't wait to read that as a proper book. I loved EP, but it needed some editing.

I'm glad you're willing to read books a second time. I'm a big proponent of the arts and see many books just like that--so I think it's a good thing when you read something a second time and get a different perspective. Whenever you encounter art, it should be different than the last time you looked at it because you are different. It's no longer the same piece, whether it's a painting, sculpture or book, because your experiences since the last time you encountered it have changed you. I find that a lot of fun. One of the exercises in my museum education classes was to ignore the placard of info and simply guess about the meanings of the piece and the artist's intents. There was no wrong answer since it's about each individual's experience. I often find myself remembering pieces of relationships past when I read Twific, which can be especially fun while reading the HS fics. I remember things that I had forgotten.

I didn't think you were rambling BTW, but it seems that perhaps it was a bug and now it has spread. Sorry for the diatribe.  :)

Angelfall was excellent, my daughter and I both loved it. The sequel is due out next month, we can't wait.

Forever Young
« Reply #383 on: October 15, 2013, 04:46 PM »
If anyone has Forever Young by Mirrorbay2000 on their TBR don't read it. Actually, let me quantify that, don't read it if English is your first language. Though I give anyone props for writing in a language which isn't their mother tongue (I'm aware it cannot be easy), this story drove me loopy ( and not in a good way like our Loopy). Words used out of context or maybe because they looked nice? *shrug* Weird sentence structures, for example, from the first page of the first chapter,  'The two of us found great pleasure in chatting conversations up with random, good-lucking English gentleman' and on and on in this vein it went, and of course I couldn't flounced * sigh*. Onward, or should I say upwards. Surviving Bella by Savage.

EDIT: I've been wondering about the date order of some of these stories and I've just suddenly realised that these stories are not in the order I downloaded them but in the order I uploaded them to Calibre which was quiet some time after I started saving them to a fanfic folder on my desktop..no wonder they're so random!

Lamelurker -- did I ever mention that I LOVE your usename?  About Angelfall...   Your mention of how books are works of art is so very appropriate for discussing this book!  I absolutely loved it (though there were a few scenes that were pretty gruesome).  I read this last year and it still stands out in my mind for having the single most beautiful ending scene ever in a book!   I don't know if others were as affected as I was by the very last moment of the book, but the image is stuck in my head and I can't wait to read it again.   Now that I'm rambling about it again I guess I won't be speed reading Angelfall, I'll soak it all in one more time to get ready for the sequel.      So, needless to say, I definitely recommend reading this one...   it's young adult/romance/action etc and it does end on a cliffhanger but it was so worth the read.   As strange as it sounds...  I typically hate cilffhangers but this one almost seemed to make the book better for me.  I've been waiting for over a year for book 2 and the book is still on my mind all the time because of that beautiful last moment.    So, now you have to read it and let me know what you think!

I also REALLY liked Divergent and Insurgent!  Those books are huge hits!   I honestly thought they were much better than the Hunger Games, but I know not everybody feels that way.   They're often compared to the Hunger Games since its a similar genre but the books are very different.   I cannot wait to get my hands on Book 3!  There was a big twist at the end of the second book and it was complex so I need to read it again just to make sure I know what was going on.

As I mentioned before I HEART Gabriel in a major way, but you're right it will be a different experience this time for me...   and believe me the first books were an experience! LOL  I have never been so taken with a book character before.      Have you read the interviews on on SRs (the author) website?  He writes some great interviews between Gabriel and the narrator of the book!  Great stuff!

I completely forgot about Sempre 2 coming out...   I know a lot of people said the fic was just too long and needed major editing.  I'm glad that I read this as a published book so I didn't have to sift through all that extra info.   I had no idea a second book was coming out until recently and I was thrilled because while the first book ended in a good spot I was dying to see what happened next after his direction in life took that drastic change!

I loved Surviving Bella by Savage.  She is a great writer.  Though it is angsty.  And the end leaves you wanting more. She really could have done a sequel.  Actually, it was the epilogue.  The ending was fine.

I loved the piano tuner story LOL! so funny.   :D :D :D :D

A few weeks ago, FFnet was blocking python based collectors, so FFDL wasn't working.  They fixed it and wrote a work around, but still it went down again Sunday.  It was fixed again Sunday afternoon. So it's not just Flagfic.  They've just been more successful with Flagfic.  And it is only chapters/stories that posted after 10/10/13.  Any older stories will download without a problem.   >:(

I flounced CW&IA.  It just wasn't grabbing me at the time.  ;D

So I just read a real book for the first time in forever.  Size 12 and Ready to Rock by Meg Cabot.  Not a lot of lemons but a decent mystery I guess.  I just usually love her stories because she mixes humor with the story.  I really loved her The Boy Next Door group of stories.  Mostly done in email, texts and messaging.  So great.   ;D

Re: Right to Click Firefox add on
« Reply #391 on: October 15, 2013, 06:38 PM »
So. (if this already hasn't been mentioned)

For anyone who uses Firefox. There's an extension (add-on) that's called RightToClick. It apparently overrides the Javascript that prevents us from selecting text and copying/pasting into a doc .

I just installed and tried it...copied/pasted a random fic into Google Docs and it worked! I wasn't able to copy/paste from Chrome but with the add-on it worked in Firefox

If you do it, be sure that after you install and restart firefox to click on the little pointer arrow in the top toolbar (beside your home button) and that will activate the add-on.

 :)

BTW: one of the lovely ladies on the non-canon fb group mentioned this in passing, that she heard there was an extension that allowed this. I did some digging and here it is :)

Isn't this the fic that was P2P as Surviving Raine by Shay Savage? If so, there is a sequel coming out in 2014. This is another one of those series-to-be-completed on my TBR with the unread horded on my computer. If I can't hold out until then, I may just read Surviving Bella and skip the epilogue.

I also loved CW&IA but flounced EP.  I will admit to skipping the lemons in CW&IA after a while though.  Not because I don't love lemons, but my gawd, talk about at it like bunnies.  That girl must have been chafed raw :o.

I couldn't handle the repetition of EP.  I hate reading the same thing over in another POV, unless there's a really good reason for it.  And I think sometimes in EP it backtracked days if I remember correctly.  I should get the published version because I did think it was an awesome story line.
You held out your hand, and I took it without stopping to make sense of what I was doing. For the first time in almost a century, I felt hope.

This is exactly why I flounced EP. I stuck with it until around...chapter 33 or so and then I just quit reading the updates.

I can't wait for Sempre: Redemption to come out on December 23rd. What a holiday book! heh heh. My fingers are crossed for what the publisher did to the books. I loved EP, but it had significant flaws that I hope were edited...from SPaGs to, like you said, unnecessary repetition. But the story made such an impact on me. I couldn't stop talking about it to my friends. I hope Darhower let/encouraged the publisher to do their job and make the best out of a great first effort.

Does anyone know if Kara Winters is ItHappened?  I ask because Kara Winters book is called Working Out The Kinks and she is obsessed with James Deen, just as  ItHappened was/is.

It must be.  The story line for Working Out The Kinks is exactly the same as the fanfiction.  And it says it's the first of the Chain series.  The sequel to Working Out the Kinks was Breaking the Chains.

I actually didn't dislike either story, I just got bored.  They weren't what I wanted to read at the time.  :P

But I'm with you on the too darn long on EP.  I think I got almost a third of the way in.  Still waiting for something good to happen.  Didn't like any of the characters much.  Never made sense to me that Edward was going to be the next Mafia head either, being the youngest.  So I put it aside.

I know what you mean about skipping lemons. I love lemons, but sometimes if there are too many of them to me it takes away from the story.

I have never read EP, what story is that?
