Sorry to be so totally OT, but I have to brag about something real quick:
I just stood up to my boss and said I don't like to do something (which by the way isn't my original task anyway). Phew! I'm a little bit proud, but also nervous. Maybe I'll have to do it anyway, but at least I stood up for myself and worked up the courage to express my disapproval. I'm such a scaredy-cat!  :P

Does anyone else have a problem with flouncing a fic and then remembering parts of the plot waaaay later and not being able to remember the name or author? It's really the worst; because I didn't like them enough to keep track of them and I can't get little bits of the story out of my head  >:( Now I have to go see if anyone can tell what stories I'm talking about from my vague recollections

Do you want to re-read them now? Or do you want to stay away from those fics?

But for both the author and the beta to not pick it? It's odd?

As for the 7 graders, I get them hearing the term from someone older but to understand the it so well that they can 'write' music to fight against it? He also has piercings and all sorts. GOD! it's at times like this that I wish I could flounce.....

Totally agree that the misuse of this word is so commonplace that of course one has to wonder if so many people really know the difference. I know for a fact that quite a few people cannot differentiate between "your" and you're" and I really believe "shutter" and "shudder" falls into the same category. Think back and try to remember how often you have read this error. I bet that you will find quite a few. How can so many get it wrong so often.

She must have gotten the grade wrong. There is no other answer to that.

Um, I think it's a thing of spell it like it sounds and don't actually ever check a dictionary. I've seen it so often now, I'm sure many writers who can't spell don't know the difference. And betas miss stuff. And not all betas appear to know how to spell either if you read their stories.

At least this is what I see when I read these stories. One person spells it wrong. Next thing everyone who read that story is spelling it wrong. And without real editors? Self published stories will likely have lots of errors. Also, it's impossible to catch your own errors. This has been my experience. Your brain sees what you meant to say and not necessarily what you actually wrote. So I'm a little sympathetic.

Agree with this phenomenon... Can't spell and don't know the difference, used often enough it becomes commonly used...
Not to diss my aussie sisters here, but was bewildered to see so many Sydney stores with "Supah Sale" on their store window a number of years ago. Only to learn they meant "Super". Guess that's how it's pronounced there so people started spellng it that way?  :-\ or IS there really a word supah?! ???

Also agree that if i'm the one writing, an email or a memo for example, i sometimes don't notice some mistakes. Hard to self-edit. But i instantly see wrong ones in others' emails or in books.  ;D

I read this based on your recommendation, and liked it. With that said, I find it VERY hard to grasp the prose in which goldenmeadow writes. I am ALL ABOUT some flowery writing in moderation, but I had to re-read things a few times to decipher what in the world was going on. She also penned Dead Confederates which I was soooo excited to get started on, but I could not get past the first three chapters. Sometimes I think I'm crazy and just don't get it, but I found this on the first page of reviews for Dead Confederates

Youth without Age and Life without Death, was a much shorter task, but still had a pretty handful of those adjectives. I'm a loser that doesn't care to read multiple point of views, so I only read the first chapter (Eliza, who I loved!) and all chapters from Edward and Bella. The plot was great and I enjoyed reading through all the folklore. I just bugged out over the excessive description  :(

I'm glad you liked it. Eliza and Esme's stories were my favourites. This is a fic that you have to work through, for sure, I mentioned that in my review, but I think it almost comes as second nature to me, now, to go back and re-read and re-evaluate and decipher text; I'm an English literature graduate and I now do it in my job all day everyday....

I have an anti-flounce gene that no amount of medication, stem-cell therapy or wishful thinking seems to be able to cure...

I loved Dead Confederates! I found it easier to read though than Youth Without Age. While it can be a little difficult to read her writing style, I (like Demaris) commend her for having the courage to write as she likes. Both stories are really well done.

Another counselor story completed!?! Yeah! Whoohoo! Can't wait... Another author who I commend for her writing style even though it can be challenging to get through for the reader. I absolutely  her historical fics.

LOL! Yes. Not enough to be able to figure out what it was. And it gets all mixed up with other stories.  So frustrating. :P

Agreed! I love Counselor and Bringing Bella Home sure was an amazing study in 19th century language, and being inside a slight odd head.  :D

OK ladies.
Hands up. Who do I hold responsible for the new kind of hell I just made myself read through called Metal Pointe? Holy piece of crap fic Batman! It was all over the place, it jumped backwards and forward and side ways, it made me cross eyed, and not at all in a good way. I wanted to sucker punch this Bella in the larynx. The only way this story could be redeemed from the bottom of a shit heap is if I'm told that these authors are both 13 years old, then I'll give them a 0.5 for effort. Do Not Read!

I think I've read OS by both authors that were okay. So not 13 years old. Just crappy writing.

Ella, my Calibre Goddess. Once you've create a personalized column can you delete it if you find you never use it, i.e. 'Words'? And if yes, how?

Thanks in advance... :-*

I don't know about delete, but you can make it disappear. In preferences, select columns option, then just unselect the columns you don't want.  ;D

You can delete it, Demaris. Go to Preferences in Calibre and to Add your own columns. Then select the column you want to delete. On the right side of this list are the options (arrow up, remove (three green arrows in form of a triangle), add, info, arrow down).  I'm not at home, so I can't check my library, but I'm sure there is such an option. Maybe you have to select the column and click the blue "i" first, but I rather think it's selecting the column and then hitting the button with the three green arrows in a triangle. Don't forget to hit apply after doing that.

May I ask what this fic is about? I don't think I have read any of this authors fics.... What kind of fics does she write?

I've read most of her stories but I'm really bad at summaries so I'm gonna save you from that ;)

Look How You Turned out is about
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
You can give it a try, it has short chapters but I really don't know how good it will be reading it at once. I read it as a WIP and loved it.

Told you I'm terrible at summaries! Hope this helps. ^-^

I LOVE her stories. I found one of her stories, Turkey Baster, when I was in a fluffy mood searching through the family tag. It was not what I was expecting, one of those crazy plots where Bella wants to get pregnant by any means necessary. It was alright. But I liked the writing enough to see if there were any more for me to read through and I was so happy when I found a handful to choose from. I'm finding it hard to categorize her stories, because they each have such a different plot. I noticed that some of the earlier stories have some underlying tones of faith and family that were written with respect. Not anything that you'd find that would try to push values onto the reader.

a couple of my favs:
Catwoman SO GOOD! Wealthy Edward moves into the neighborhood for some solitude and ends up butting heads with the crazy cat lady across the street.

Finding My Thunder Set during the Civil Rights movement in Tennessee. This was on my to be read list for months, and when I finally started reading I couldn't manage to do anything else. There's a lot of race discussion, mostly on the subject of Bella passing as white and how she and Edward can relate to one another in this aspect. The physical traits are OOC. Just a warning if you haven't read it.

I just finished Look How You Turned Out and had so much fun reading it. I think this was probably the most carefree story that I've read from counselor. Probably also the most lemon heavy, too! Her earlier stories were so tame compared to this one. So many funny innuendos. Basically;
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
I don't know if that needed a spoiler but the title of the story was pretty revealing but anyway

It's like when I get a song stuck in my head and can't think properly until I listen to it. With stories, my annoyance is usually quelled as soon as I figure out the name of the story and go on with my business.

Yes this is correct. I was just doing it from memory earlier, but I just now checked and if you highlight it then hit the recycle sign it will let you delete it. ;)
