This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general. But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

So I just finished reading Black Eyed Angel by Prettyflour. I liked it. But after reading about Mary Sues? Yeah, this Bella is soooo Mary Sue. And? It was her first story. Bella has it all after overcoming her issues. It was funny though. I really wouldn't have thought much about it until I read that wiki post on Mary Sues from Star Trek. OMG, this was totally it.

And then I realized maybe I am a fifteen year old girl still.

Can someone help me? Remember last year when PK was reading the fic Fame? Was by BlueIsSoul? And was it mash-up of 'Fame' and Twilight or was it a story about the downside of said fame? I thought is was about a Fame-like academy but unless I downloaded the wrong one, the one I've got is about the downside of fame....

Its funny with the discussion of ages and school start times, I just started a fic that addresses their ages right from the start since Edward is older. Apparently he got sick too many days and had to repeat Kindergarten.

Though it's a corny way to explain things, it is a very reasonable and realistic one. I/my parents were faced with that dilemma more than once during my K-12 years. If I had been held back each time, it's possible that I'd be 2-3 years behind.

For what it's worth, around here there's a trend of parents holding their kids back if they're on the tail end of the cut off. That said, in my experience it's not necessary a good thing to be on either side of the spectrum. Both outliers can face challenges.

Question to all of you who use Calibre library. What does it mean when there is a gold/yellow thumb tack (push pin) next to a title? And how do I remove it? Or even better yet, how did it get there? LOL

in my library those pins are there when I used the reading list plug in and change back to the whole library. All stories of the last reading list I used gets such a pin. They go away on their own somehow...

I thought is was about a Fame-like academy but unless I downloaded the wrong one, the one I've got is about the downside of fame....

I thought that either that one couldn't be found or it was only a few chapters and not complete. I just remember looking at a story about Fame/Twilight and it was only 2 or 3 chapters long and looked abandoned.

I know PK thought there was a complete version, but I don't know if it was found. That's all I remember.

I was trying to make it happen, but I don't use the reading list plug in - I couldn't get it to do what I wanted and using a virtual library worked just as well.

I've now started reading A Thin Line Between Love and Hate by samekraemer (Yep, Fame read and ticked off) I'm only about 3 or so pages in, Bella is Esme's divorce lawyer, she's divorcing Carlisle they're in their first client/lawyer conference and this section made me hoot out loud. .

"He had also become quite randy prior to their separation. She determined that was to throw her off the scent of him getting a little strange on the side."

The only Esme Cullen I can imagine using such terms is the one in Aha Shakes!

YESSS. One thing that I've noticed with Twilight fanfiction is that it's very common for Bella to be written however the author sees fit, and it's pretty rare for me to see something that's super canon in the Book Bella sense. I didn't particularly care for Bella in the books, but I haven't read them in awhile, so at this point fanfiction Bella is more canon to me than SM's Bella. I just think it's interesting to see how fandom has kind of shaped this character over the years. SM laid down the foundation and ff authors are taking off with the model, making it their own and even profiting (50 Shades) from it.

I want to add my two cents to this. While I don't mind authors adding/expanding a character, there is a point where for me a character is too "out of character". There was another comment I believe that called Bella "a blank slate". While I do feel that Bella has some leeway to play with, I wouldn't call her a blank slate in any respect and for me as a write and a reader, if I were to read or write a Bella that goes too far out of the boundaries, to me it's not Bella anymore but an OC who has some of Bella's traits.

I have another question/comment. There was a comment in this topic or another that said something to the effect of "betaing the beta". What does that mean? Are you mentally (or may be not just) correcting the writing and indirectly critiquing the quality of the beta?

Does anyone know of this fanfic that was on Fanfiction.net, please reply if you do
What I remember of the story:
- Alice had a vision of Bella and she and Jasper save Bella.
- Bella's Parents died and Alice and Jasper rescued Bella from the woods.
- They take her to a cabin, that's been set up for Bella, there is even pictures of the Cullens and Bella feels connected through the picture of Edward.
- Bella wakes up in the cabin alone and eventually Alice and Jasper and Bella communicate through letters?
- They give Bella everything she wants, she asks for a dog and the get her it.
- Eventually Bella they meet, and eventually she gets introduced to the cullens
- Bella and Edward are mates.
That is all that i can remember please help me!!

You've posted your request on the 152 thread and if anyone has a suggestion for you, they'll post it there. We have a good identification rate, but it's not 100%. I can accept more changes in non-canon and AH stories than I can in vampire ones. I can see Bella being much different if Edward left and didn't come back for a long time, or if she ends up with someone else. But she should still be recognizable to readers. But changing her looks completely (making her natural blonde, or her ethnicity, etc) is just writing about an OC named Bella. I don't even like AH stories where Bella is too different, like a bitchy party girl. Part of why I did like Bella was she was sweet and shy and self sacrificing. Leave Alice and Rosalie to be the bitchy ones.

I haven't moved up to 1.22, so I haven't had any trouble. Last time I did an update and had trouble with ffdl, I just went back to the last version that let me use ffdl and waited for the next calibre update to change the version I was using.
