Yeah it's weird. I was searching for something like Freaky Friday where Bella and Ed switch, but found that. I have seen OC slash fics where Bella is a dude and meets Ed.. I probably wouldn't be reading anything published where a teenage boy is torn over two different girls so it really does defeat the purpose. I just thought it was interesting because just from skimming I was able to see she even wrote in a teenage boys libido! The girl version of Edward was obviously saving herself for marriage, so any attempts at getting into her pants would be wrong. But Bella and her teenage hormones had no problem trying to put the moves on her super chaste vampire virgin.

You know, I think there is such a thing as taking things too far...Is it well written, at least?

I have to ask, for everyone that didn't particularly like Twilight or the characters, what brought you to the fanfic in the first place?

I had a LiveJournal account and one of my friends on there was always going on about Wide Awake. I read that and a few other AH fics I found on FF.net, lost interest and moved on. Last May, I checked one of my bookmarks to see if ItzMegan73 had finished something I read back in 2009 and found myself hooked after that. Before Twilight I only bothered with HP fanfic because there was an abundance to choose from, so the Twilight explosion was nice in terms of future reading material  ;)

I liked Twilight and Eclipse. The rest was okay I guess.

However, I knew nothing about fan fiction until one day on twitter, some of my RobP0rn dealers were talking about The Plan. The whole thing amazed me. Edward was human. And not the sweet old fashioned guy I was used to. Then there was Bella telling him to eat pineapple if he wanted her to swallow again LOL!

Yeah, good times.  ;D

Anachronisms - Drive me crazy.
I just read Rebel Without a Cause.... There were no Panty hose, hair blowers, mind blowing events in 1953. The facination with garter belts was silly, it was the only way to hold up nylons.  There were no ballet flats, only flats and heels. Pumps were both.  Those were the basic ones. The story was so overloaded with movie star names I almost gave up reading it. Gack.

Though the writing was not superb, loved the characters and story. I didn't enjoy new moon bec am team edward all the way, but i liked the others.

Have to thank 50 shades of gray for introducing me to fanfics.  :) again, not the best writing but connected with the characters and their story  ;) connected meaning i felt them, not that i am into bdsm   :D

Said this before, i read so i can feel, enjoy, escape and not think too much. I do enough thinking at work  ;D So any feel good story that makes my heart twinge, goosebumps appear, tears me up and makes me laugh out loud, even though the writing is not top class (but not stupid or too full of spags), is good for me.  :) Though i will only rec 4 stars and above in my opinion.  :) :P

??? bonnet dryers were the norm at the time, and a lot of people didn't have a separate dryer for the house which is why the beauty salon was visited often. My grandma's mentioned that before, getting her hair done once a week and wearing a hair cap and curlers to keep it's shape until her next visit.

I guess Twilight felt like fanfiction to me to begin with. Bella was written in a way that allows the reader to sort of become her. You get really absorbed into the story and can kind of experience the story with her. What made the story seem like fanficion or a Mary Sue to me. Here is a girl who seems like an average teenager. She's had a trying/difficult childhood. She thinks herself as really plain, and yet, she comes to a new school and the boys all adore her. She is asked out by several of them straight off to go to prom. Plus the unobtainable super model Greek god like boy, that everyone wants but no one gets, is attracted to her. She gets caught up in this angsty, dramatic romance and outside factors not controlled by our heroine cause a conflict. In the end our girl gets what she wants. She gets the man of her dreams, a child, keeps her best friend who becomes a protector of her child, is now insanely rich and still gets to have a relationship with her human family.  She also gets superhero abilities and now looks like a supermodel herself.

I think I said this before that I liked the overall premise of the Twilight Saga (except Breaking Dawn). There was something there that drew me in. I had been a long time reader of fanfiction and turned to it for what it was lacking. I wanted Bella to have more of a back bone and stand up for herself. I wanted to see more of the classic English Literature heroine reflected in Bella. You can still be accepting of circumstances or self sacrificing and be intelligent, free thinking, passionate and strong willed. Charlotte Bronte did an excellent job of that in Jane Eyre.  I hated that Edward was an obsessive stalker. It kind of squeaked me that he would climb in her window and watch her sleep. He had some sweet qualities that I wanted to see be developed more. Although I don't like controlling men in my life I didn't mind that as part of Edward's character. It was fitting for the time he was from. I also have to agree that I like some of the secondary characters, Jasper, and wanted more stories about them. With all of it's flaws it was still an intriguing series and left you clamoring for more. The more is fanfiction.

To me that is exactly why I think Twilight is/was successful.  That said, for me, that's also what can make a really good book, not just Twilight.  I'm one of those who wants to be able to envision the characters and such and get immersed in their world.  The fact that it's fantasy and unrealistic in some areas is a part of reading fiction for me.

I will admit I have no idea how I stumbled onto fan fiction.  It must have been through a google search for something.

I have a question... I am reading the epilogue to a story and Bella is giving birth, she yelling at Edward, pushing him away, screaming never to touch her again.  So many stories have this scenario (more than with a relatively calm, pain expected delivery) - is this more normal than I think or just to add color to the story?  I have given birth twice, the first time with an epidural and the second without, I think without was easier - both my girls were late, one 7 lbs 5 oz, the other 8 lbs 7 oz.  I personally don't like the yelling at the father and frequently skip it.

Wow, no epidural and it was your choice?  :o The height of the contractions was the worst pain i ever endured and boy, was i thankful for that epidural! However, pardon for my going the religious route, God wouldn't have given us something too painful to bear, otherwise we die  :P Well, for millions of women to keep giving birth, like me doing it not once but twice too, just shows we can handle that pain and forget it to actually repeat it again.

People probably deal with pain differently and i could understand them saying things while they were in pain, but think they would actually regret it after. For me, scenes where the person giving birth yells at their man,  is a comedic relief...i'm thinking "you got that right, another person coming out of your vajayjay, why don't the men try it and see how it feels"  :D On the flip side, some authors do this scene to show how the man hates seeing the woman in pain, wishing she didn't get pregnant and risk the chance of losing her...i think "awwww, that's sweet, the man really loves her deeply"  ;) All in all, i just put my own spin on it to suit my taste or my mood at the time i'm reading it. Otherwise, like you, i would skip it if i didn't like the way it was written.  :)

If that's not enough incentive to keep reading fanfiction, I don't know what else is!  :yea: :yea: :yea:

Bella is 17, and stupid. Jake is 15, and stupid. Edward is ancient, still stupid. This is why I hated everyone! I think the majority of us are grown women now and can see things in a more mature light. Pretty sure I felt more mature than I really was as a teenager, but I was still stupid. I had a couple friends confess feelings for me at that age. What was I supposed to do for them?! I enjoyed their company as friends but didn't return their feelings. I also had the same situation occur with boys I fancied. They didn't return my feelings and I got over it eventually. But I also didn't have a boyfriend that I was making uncomfortable by still keeping other male company with  The whole saga was a mess, but easy enough to read through.

I found this while I was searching for gender switch fics awhile back (don't ask):
Boys with Girlfriends
By: audreyii-fic You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
A boy gets dumped by a vampire and a wolfgirl tries to cheer him up. A genderswap rewrite of New Moon and Eclipse.

I didn't read it but I thought the concept was interesting. FF.net won't let me right click anymore so I can't paste the authors synopsis, but she basically rewrote original characters with Jacob and Edward being girls fighting over a male version Bella. It's supposed to be Jacob/Bella but not at all since they're original characters...

Just wow....and to see what these characters from a ya book have led us grown ass women to ......ffn, pts .. Just to name a few......what is it? Four/five years later and we are still going strong.

My daughter was 9 lbs 8oz, 4.3 kg and I gave birth drug free.  (not thinking about that part of the birth of my son, 6 weeks to go).
I think some authors use the yelling for color, or because that is how they think someone should react, or because they have read other stories or seen such a scene on tv or in the movies.

Either she's trying to be funny or she's never had kids. Or both. They do that a lot on TV shows showing birth. Usually comedies. Most women want the baby enough to put up with the pain. Or they make sure they get an epidural.  :-\

I've never given birth, but I did volunteer at a hospital for 4 years.  It may not be the norm, but I heard women in labor scream many colorful things.

I have to ask, for everyone that didn't particularly like Twilight or the characters, what brought you to the fanfic in the first place?

I read Twilight while on holiday with my then 13 year old god-daughter. It took me 2 days, I think? To read the first 3 book while she was on the massive BD hardback. Never thought anything more about it. Then years later, there I was minding my own business shopping for undies on Myla.com and they had a promotion for FSOG, it looked...interesting so I clicked and bought it. The characterisation was so similar to Twilight's Bella and Edward I thought James had plagiarized Meyer's story. I went online to see WTF was up and discovered the world of Fanfiction. Still, I didn't drink the Kool Aid straight away, FSOG lead me to Gabriel's Inferno and the rest as they say...I wouldn't say I didn't like Twilight but yes, I really disliked Bella's character, I thought Edward was a more interesting study though immaturely done, and Jacob was a waste of ink....In the end it just wasn't written for my demographic and so I didn't really get all the hype, and Lord have mercy do not get me started on the films.... :D :D

I was in the delivery room when my best friend had her baby (alongside her husband) it was the most...traumatic experience I've had. I think the hospital were short of staff or something because I ended up at the wrong end of the bed holding her legs up while she pushed! Mother of God! I am never having my partner down there...I doubt he'd ever want to have oral again! I still shutter just thinking about it and 'the baby' is 9 years old now...

I have to ask, for everyone that didn't particularly like Twilight or the characters, what brought you to the fanfic in the first place?

I likedTwilight because of its fairytale like quality. But I didn't like the characters, especially Edward.

I gave and give Bella a lot leeway. No matter of her character, Meyers manipulated her in an impossible situation  ;)

She was shy in the beginning. Living with a father she never got to know right before, having lived with a mother who needed someone to take care of her (so she never had a lot of friends anyway...) now she was pretty isolated because of being new. And somewhat unable to make friends easily herself. (I'm very introverted myself, so I can relate to her in that way)...
And she is still a teenager, in that being unsure of yourself, your worth...

Then there comes this "perfect" family. At first, Edward kills more and more of her confidence, being that hot and cold until she can only feel good when he is with her... then they include her in their perfect family, where everybody is better than her. Otherwise they isolate her from any other possible friends... they can't leave her alone and can't be with others because they have to keep their secret. So, Bella has only the Cullens. Meyers never wrote about the time between Twilight and New Moon, but I think it was implied that they spent their summer together and very isolated of course. So in New Moon it was still in the beginning of the new school year, and Bella had no chance to bond with other students.

That's why New Moon is so believable to me. Bella was completely alone...

And yes, she used Jacob, but he used her too. I felt bad for him until he shifted. Then he should have known better. The possibility of imprinting was there, and using Bella, wanting her to love him knowing that he could dump her anytime because of his soulmate appearing...

Edward I really really disliked. He just should have known better and done better. With all his brooding and inactivity... bah
I just wished for a fifth book where Bella finally kicks his behind. I liked BD because she grew a lot. Yes, she got to be that supervamp but I didn't begrudge her that. Having Edward the brooding weak emotional abusive vampire as soulmate you need any power you can get. In the end she was stronger, more mature.

Yeah, it was possible good that there is no fifth book, I think she would have burned him eventually when he got too much on her nerves...  :D
I know I would have.

Ooops... to answer your question...  ^-^

Someone linked me the part of EPOV of Twilight Meyers wrote... then I saw some links to fanfics that completed that... then I saw that people actually wrote even more fanfics... A BD honeymoon with lemons? ...  then that there were AH fics... and fics where Bella got a better vamp... fics where Edward got his behind kicked... and I was hooked.  :)

So...

there is an non-canon writer that just wrote a kind of canon story.

Haunting the Cullens
By: Fakin'it
What if the Cullens had inside information & help from the start of their encounter with Bella? What could they do better? What would change? A Twi-fan from our world finds herself haunting the Cullens in the cafeteria on Bella's first day, unseen & unheard by the humans, simply a spirit. The Cullens can see & hear her just fine though, & she definitely has lots to say to them.

Liked it. Fits into this discussion, so just read the first chapters where the spirits changes all about the Cullens she hates...  :D and you get to know why Jasper is so loved in the non-canon world...  :)

I always thought this was somehow the "American" way of giving birth.  ;) You see it in a lot of movies too... the mom-to-be yelling and cursing and threatening...

Here it is not encouraged to be that wordy. It takes up your energy. You are encouraged to moan loudly, best in a tone range that helps you open up...

I have given birth three times, never got any kind of pain killers, but the first two were induced.

First birth my son was face-up so it was very hard, but I was too tired to scream or curse...

Yes, I screamed during the second birth, because they got the dose wrong and I had to give birth to her before I was fully opened (so they manually widened my birth channel (ouch) )

Third birth was just an hour, there was no time to be loud  ;)

And I know no woman that behaved like they do in fanfics...
