  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #5 - We are crazy talkers here! Join in the fun!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

How funny, though I still think we moan about rain much more than snow, and with good reason at the moment....'stay afloat Somerset Levels!' *whispers* I am so not a fan of Dr Who never have been, ever, even when the Daleks were made of cardboard...

Aren't we glad we live in hilly North London.  If I flood then everyone is in serious trouble.  Snow - shudders.

It was cardboard in the 70s/80s but who cares, as a kid I loved Tom Baker I still do.  I stopped watching when he left and then fell in love with it again when the lovely David Tennant took over.  I stopped watching when Matt Smith took on the role but he grew on me.  I am now really looking forward to Peter Capaldi taking over, I have always liked him.   :)

Hi all! I've been enraptured with watching the Winter Olympics--especially the figure skating and snowboarding--so I haven't been reading as much, but wanted to stop in. I've read a few fics that were rec'd here that I enjoyed, though I'm having trouble now remembering too much about them. I liked the all fluff Southern story 'Down Home' by MrsSpaceCowboy. I also enjoyed Catwoman by Counselor, though I think it's the weakest story I've ever read by her. In that way, it was a bit disappointing. I'm glad she's started something new. (I also read The Attack by JaidedVanillaXoXo, which I do NOT rec--quite immature).

I loved reading all the anecdotes about how everyone got into twifc. My intro was the result of an OCD accident. I was correcting mistakes in my PDF of one of the original books and Googling passages online to make sure I was editing correctly. I ended up on LiveJournal where someone (Das_Mervin You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
) had sporked--chapter by chapter--Twilight. Linked to her page was Mrs. Hyde's (her RL sister) pre-Twilight revamp called the Darkest Hours, which begins Edward's story from when he was turned through his dark days and returning to Carlisle and Esme. (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login) I was so shocked. Even though SM's OF wasn't very good, it was like crack to me. I had read the series several times and just kept rereading it. I wanted more. Suddenly, this person had created the back story for Edward I'd craved and gave his character character. I was so in love with the idea that other writers would try to make the series better by fulfilling the potential that SMeyer had started. By the time I read the sequel back stories (which follow Edward through the remaining years up to Twilight You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login), I was hooked on this idea of potential fulfillment and realized I had read what was called fanfiction. And I've never looked back!

I can totally relate to that. I fell into FF when SM herself said that she loved reading it.  I then discovered a whole world I never knew existed.  I was also really lucky in finding wonderful fics to read immediately including non cannon.  I have been hooked ever since, I am now slowly moving into Thor and co, naturally being me I am reading Loki and Jane fics.  :D :D

Hello Ladies,
I have been holed up reading The Bronze Horseman trilogy as recommended by a few of you.  I haven't come up for air in the best part of a week!
If you haven't read it, you should give it a go.  It is an extremely long enthralling read.

Is there cheating? I downloaded it but haven't started.

I'm still not over Outlander. Haven't been able to read the second book either.

Probably not in the way you are thinking.  I had to bear through the first book in the series as I really didn't like the direction it was headed.
It is a love story told over a lifetime though, so there are always going to be testing elements.  The setting is fantastic and learning about that side of the war for me was extremely educational and eye opening.

I just never got into it (Dr Who), not sure why and I haven't seen any of the 'modern' one either...

I'm further up the hill than any of you.  Thankfully, I am also at the top of one!

I agree with you on the cheating element although, I wouldn't have whilst I was reading it!

OK, is there anyone else I can bash over the head about reading these books?... :D

I have finally gotten around to reading Savage's Transcendence. Honestly I'm not one for ANs but hers are almost funnier than the story!

I guess I can give the books a read. I've seen so many people on this thread reading them and it seems everyone is enjoying them. These are the books written by Paullina Simons, right?

Yep, they're the ones.

You will have to read through some tough stuff but, the author keeps the story authentic all the way.

Thanks, I rather know in advance. I was so upset with outlander. Literally saying F#ck you! And swearing non stop at the book.

And then I couldn't sleep thinking of all the different ways I wanted the book to go. Creating some fanfiction in my head.

Wow! Can you believe Counselor has started a new story? This woman is relentless! Thank God she can actually write....

I was't going to read the story until she at least had 20 chapters..... but I failed, so far I love it.

And yes, thank god she can write!  :D

The Bronze Horseman trilogy by Paullina Simmons. I've been 'bullying' anyone who would listen into reading them since last year, but they are pretty long and you do have to decide to invest the time...but they are worth every hour.

This is an all human story that I recommend.

Tequila Sunrise
By: 2old4fanfic
It started with a Tequila Sunrise and a drunken text to her ex, Jacob. Then came two pink lines on a plastic stick. Now, she's trapped with her stuck up boss in an elevator. He has an outrageous proposal that will solve her need for cash and his need for human contact. She could have never guuessed where this elevator ride would take her. Canon couples eventually NOW COMPLETE

Though it's a corny way to explain things, it is a very reasonable and realistic one.  I/my parents were faced with that dilemma more than once during my K-12 years.  If I had been held back each time, it's possible that I'd be 2-3 years behind.

For what it's worth, around here there's a trend of parents holding their kids back if they're on the tail end of the cut off.  That said, in my experience it's not necessary a good thing to be on either side of the spectrum.  Both outliers can face challenges.

I had to repeat fifth grade. When I graduated high school, I was a year older than everyone else.
