Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

The Bronze Horseman trilogy by Paullina Simmons. I've been 'bullying' anyone who would listen into reading them since last year, but they are pretty long and you do have to decide to invest the time...but they are worth every hour.

The Bronze Horseman trilogy - Yes, definitely worth every hour, every minute and every second!  It's an epic love story.  It's one of my top favorite love stories!!!  Wait!  Not true.  It's my TOP FAVORITE, period.   :)

I enjoyed this as well.  It wasn't what I was expecting it to be, but I did enjoy it. ;)

Is it good? I remember flouncing in the first chapter.

I thought it was going to be one of those married right away then get to know one another stories, but Bella has a drunken fling with her ex who had had a fight with his current girl friend (Bella's former best friend who grabbed the ex when Bella went away to school)

Edward is married to Tanya at the beginning but she is quickly killed in a car accident.  Edward and Bella slowly get to know one another.  It started out a little blah, but I really enjoyed it.  There was a bit of a mystery, some other stuff happens, and eventually Edward and Bella end up together.  As I said, I thought it was going to be a fluffy type story, but it wasn't.

Hmmmm, the summary at goodreads really doesn't grab me... WW2 then comments like very long, heartwrenching and cheating  :o I see mostly 5 star ratings and from your raves, this looks quite like a great read indeed. But sorry Demaris, i might not have the guts to read this this year  :( But who knows, i am averse to angst but hunkered down to read Emancipation Proclamation and Offside, both ending up in my top 10.  :P

That's why I haven't tried these out either. Not been in the mood for WW2 drama.

Can anyone rec a story where Big Bad Bella stays big and bad for more than 3 chapters and a single glance from Edward's green eyes!(Oh, wait, no, this one lost her big girl pants from hearing is voice on the phone!)  All the big talk at the beginning for what? F*ck so disappointed, I was hoping it would take her longer to become a swoony p.u.s.s.y (literally) I'm on Chapter 7, please, please someone tell me that something will happen that will restrengthen her back bone!! * Shakes head, mumbles "f*cking no-flounce gene"*

I must admit, when I started it I didn't know what to expect.  I was shocked at the differences between the accounts of war I had read about and heard from my Grandparents to the one the characters lived through.

Having read it I now know why my Grandad never spoke a word of his experiences as a POW and my respect for him has quadrupled.

It is not for the faint hearted but is an enlightening read.

if you could send some of the water our way we would appreciate it. California is in the middle of a drought that may affect our food production. And worse, our wine LOL!  So we would be happy to take the floodwater off your hands.

Too bad it doesn't work that way. ;)

No it doesn't unfortunately.  The news has shown that many farmers fields are under lots of water, this does not bode well for this years harvest.

That is so funny because I flounced at the same chapter....really thought she would put him in his place, too.  Stupid me, I even bought the ebook that was published about this story.  Let me know if you find one that she does stays "big and bad"  Paula

Hello Ladies,
I have been holed up reading The Bronze Horseman trilogy as recommended by a few of you.  I haven't come up for air in the best part of a week!
If you haven't read it, you should give it a go.  It is an extremely long enthralling read.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
That's how I was...  It took me 12 days to finish the series and I literally couldn't think of anything else during those 12 days.   I have never been so emotionally invested in a couple.   I read them several months ago and am still emotionally invested in them and their families!  SHe is an amazing author.

Probably not in the way you are thinking.  I had to bear through the first book in the series as I really didn't like the direction it was headed.
It is a love story told over a lifetime though, so there are always going to be testing elements.  The setting is fantastic and learning about that side of the war for me was extremely educational and eye opening.
I also found the history part of it really incredible to learn about... and I must admit that history is my least favorite subject and I would have never ever dreamed I'd like a WW2 romance!  People talked about strong feelings with this book and I really wanted to see what it was all about.  I'm so glad I did.   This is what I call an epic romance and I honestly don't think it can ever be topped.   Now with that being said, it's not one that I'd ever want to read again...  well, maybe years and years from now?  It was just so hard to read...  so real!   I did some research on different things she covered in the book and all of it was factual in regards to the war etc.      I should also mention that the whole book isn't necessarily about war...  they aren't always in war time.

OK, is there anyone else I can bash over the head about reading these books?... :D

I have finally gotten around to reading Savage's Transcendence. Honestly I'm not one for ANs but hers are almost funnier than the story!
Since I was so emotionally invested in them as a couple I was also doing some name calling! LOL    Be sure and let us know what you thought of Transcendence!  Still can't believe I liked a caveward fic!

Do NOT read this spoiler unless you've finished the Bronze Horseman series...  It is a summary in gifs of this persons reaction to different sections as she goes through book and they are so RIGHT ON!   I read the books all back to back and I can't remember if this is only covering book 1 or if its also 2...  so don't look unless you've read at least the first 2. :)

That was so funny!! Just be happy that you have all three books at your disposal; when I first read TBH it was as a book, long before ebooks or ipad or any of those things, back in the time when we read by candle light and most of us bought books from a bookshop. I went into WHSmiths (for us Brits) and stumbled onto it.  There was no talk of a sequel (the publisher might have know but stuff like that didn't filter down to the reader as it does today via the internet etc) so imagine being left at the end of the first book thinking that's the end?!! I just assumed (without giving away the plot to those who haven't read it) what the end of the first book leaves you assuming! I was devastated! I cried my eyes out, re-read it about four times and cried every time....Then one day, about a year or so later, I was browsing same bookstore and saw Alexander and Tatiana (bk2) and almost screamed the store down, I'll never forget that :D, I was with a girlfriend who thought I was being attacked...it was in this slightly larger hardback-like size but I didn't care, I grabbed it like it was going to pull a vanishing act... :D :D. I LOVE these books.
