Wasn't the crossfire trilogy changed to be a 5 part series before she started writing the third book? I've been holding out because I didn't want to get stuck.

OK I just looked it up on Day's site:
Did she have a release date posted? I am waiting......impatiently

Are you reading the first book?   Loving it so far?
Yes, really enjoying it.  Don't know why I waited so long to start it.  Well, yes I do, I don't like mobward ones and I was worried this would be too much like it.

Turns out it's good and not mobward-y at all.  ;D

I downloaded a program from Fanfictiondownloader to my computer and it works great. It does have epub, mobi and other formats available.

This was my first.  I found out by right clicking the icon in the bottom tray? you can open multiple versions of it.  I could download 6 stories at a time.  I think I tried 8 once, but really? It's fairly fast unless the story is really big.

But then I discovered FFDL in Calibre.  I still use it once in a while.  It works for FFnet and sometimes TWCS.

I am not sure I am understanding. I have used it to download one shots, shorts, and longer stories and haven't had a problem. I usually only download one story at a time, so it really doesn't take much time. I would say for me, it was the same as flag for time.

When I was downloading my favorites, it helped to have multiple ffdl's open so I could download 6 at a time.  it was faster.    ;D

Nope. The 4th still has the cover tk so it's not in production yet. Also from her site on the 4th book:

Quote
To avoid what happened with the shuffling of Entwined with You's release date, we’re going to refrain from announcing a date until the book is in production and everything is Set. In. Stone. You’ve seen something like this recently with the release of Dan Brown’s Inferno. It was announced in mid-January and in readers’ hands mid-May.

Ok, so I was thinking that with regards to this whole fanfiction.net blocking the grabbers, in addition to complaining to them, why don't we ask authors if they have considered posting their stories on an other site. If fanfiction sees a drop in the number of new stories posted, then maybe they will wake the HELL up.

It is like you read my mind!  I was just going to post the same idea.  Hopefully it will not only get FF's attention, but encourage the authors to not contain themselves and their creativity to only FF. :iagree:

Good lord, ff.net is really being a bunch of assholes! I'm all panicky right now....thinking about a permanent block on all downloaders....even though I have enough fics saved to last me a lifetime, I do NOT like the idea of being blocked from saving...

...free material.

I mean...really? Is this REALLY necessary? Is this REALLY going to prevent plagiarists from thieving fics?

The answer is no. If some lame ass really wants to steal a fic, they'll find a way.

I'm wondering if the scandal from that one chick who stole Dusty is the cause of all of this recent shit.

I apologize if my thoughts are a mess, it's been one of those days

On a different note: I'm reading a Bella/Jasper fic and while I'm enjoying it, the author won't spell out the curse words.

This is an M rated fic so I don't quite understand why I keep seeing

""F*-ing jerk," I muttered. I heard a burst of laughter from Peter, and a chuckle from Jasper.

"That's me," Jasper said. "When it comes to you, I am a f*-ing jerk, and always will be."

It's annoying as hell. I'm an adult. I'm allowed to read M rated fics. I wanna read the bad words.

I think I read that one, what's it called?

And I agree about being pissed at ff.net. I'm a grownup, who made them the morality police?

I can kinda see them policing stuff like Pokemon fic, stuff that little kids might be reading. What they really need to do is put some safeguards in, instead of getting rid of everything, but it's happening all over. Amazon, B&N, and Kobo just pulled a BUNCH of erotica from their stores, I think Kobo actually pulled ALL self pubs for the time being, to make sure everyone follows the "rules". You know, those stupid "we're not gonna give you guidelines to follow, but we'll know what's wrong when we see it" kinda rules.

EXACTLY!!

God, it's so frustrating.

And I'm not sure many of the authors would be as outraged at the blocking of flagfic/other downloaders since so many have had fics stolen.

Ok haven't read that one, but I know I'll avoid it now. I remember reading SOME BxJ fic that was the same way though, with the words censored like that, and I remember that WTF feeling. I just can't remember what fic it was.

It's not necessarily written badly (not the best flow, either) but seeing bleeped out curse words in an M rated fic?

I'm curious to see how the lemons are handled....or if they are a fade to black. In which case, the rating would be mislabeled.

It's not just the readers who are annoyed, I've had a ton of authors contact me with messages of support too, and some of them have also tweeted about it.

You wouldn't know it by reading ffnet's blog though; they've been deleting any pro-FLAG comments which are posted (but leaving anti-FLAG ones alone), and even going so far as to ban some of the users who have posted such comments, without warning or explanation.

Most authors generally seem to be very much in favour of services such as FLAG, but sadly there are a vocal minority who dislike it - it's possible that maybe they are the reason behind the recent problems with ffnet. I'm not sure what they hope to achieve though - blocking ebook converters and disabling copy / paste doesn't prevent plagiarism at all, it just makes everyone else's life more difficult.

If some lowlife wants to plagiarise a story, they will do so despite the any technical blocks. At the end of the day, if they can read it, they can copy it - the only solution to that is not to post the work online in the first place.

Um, technically? M is almost a fade to black.  Most of the M rated stories are actually against the stated TOS.  That said, I find they tend to target stories with higher reviews and hits and leave the PWP stories alone because people rarely seem to review them. LOL! Too embarrassed maybe.  There are a number I've come across a few years ago that are still there. And they are pretty graphic. But not popular writers.

And I think their M rating is really a PG-13 rating.  Maybe R.  They definitely allow more violence than lemons though.  ;D

I just don't get this.  If you want to copy a fic, It's not hard even if you disable the copy feature.  And making it impossible for a downloader that puts somewhat useless copyrights on a downloaded item is even more stupid.   At least the date is proof of who published a story first.

But there are so many of us who like to read on e-ink devices.  I'm on a computer all day.  I really don't want to read on one all night.  So I download, read on my kindle, and do a review at the end.  Unless I really want to say something sooner.

Also, from looking at the forums for some of the other fanfiction downloader programs? There are many out there who are not above putting their hacking skills to work in making the downloader work in order to get their fix.  And they don't mind sharing the info since FFDL is open source, from what I've seen.

Well, I hope they come to their senses soon....  >:(

This is a message to all iPad and iPhone users.

I've found an app that will allow you to download from ff.net and read offline!!! :) It's not in a pretty epub format though, it looks like you're reading straight from ff.net. Right now I'll take anything I can get. The stories are not saved to iBooks. They're saved onto the app which is a bit scary so I'm hoping this is only a short term solution. It also has a few good features like syncing your favourite stories and authors. The link to the app is below.

Good luck girls :-*

I used to use this app. It was awesome for a while and then it went to shit. I had to uninstall and reinstall multiple times, drove me crazy. I also took the time to go through and mark where I left off on all my stories those would dissapear with every uninstall. Please let me know if this app has gotten better since it's been a while since I used it. Thanks for reminding me about it  :-*

So I downloaded the FFD from calibre, and fallowing Ella's instructions I need to do something to the plug in.... but I can't find the damn thing. :33:

I think I'm mentally challenged when it comes to Calibre.

Okay- I have a question, Epub is the only one that will work with downloading the metadata but whenever I download an Epub file I can't open it, the only way is to convert it to mobile.

So can somebody tell me why that is?

What do you mean, you can't find the damn thing? Do you mean, where you find the plug-in or the preferences to it?

It seems to me that some authors aren't even aware of how Flag works! Parasite entity! Sneaking off with stories?! WTF!

Well phrased, bienfait!

I don’t mind if a reader copies and pastes my story from FFN for their personal use, but the idea of a third party site serving up my work makes me wary. I post on FFN, not Flagfic. The same goes for other third party sites I’ve seen mentioned on the blog. I’m all for FFN blocking them.

@Guest – my sentiments exactly. Once other sites start sneaking off with my stories, who knows where it will end?

By all means, let ffnet readers copy and paste for their convenience. But flagfic, and any other such parasitic entities, can kindly keep their hands off.

First, did you restart calibre after installing the plugin? You won't see it before that.  ;)
If you already restarted calibre, it should be there...

And with what are you reading? If you have a kindle, it only reads mobi so you have to convert it.
