This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general. But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Hi!
I just get by with Calibre and I know just some basic functions such as converting and downloading stories and nothing else. A lot of you mentioned about organing files in Calibre. My question is why we need to keep files organized in Calibre? What's the advantage of doing so? After I convert/download the stories, I just move them to my regular C:drive so I don't know what I'm missing here...

I organize because I read everything (fanfiction and original fiction) on my e-book-reader. But I don't want to have the naked file on my Sony. I want to know more about the files f.e. number of pages, genre, characters, is this part of a series and so on and so on. The possibilities are endless and so inidividual as you want. And I like it. With 4000 files it's not easy to decide what to read next if you don't have a special fic in mind. So I can browse through my collections and pick one based on my sorting.

Thank you! Sounds really fun to do so, especially when you have so many books to play around. Calibre sounds fun to play with too. I definitely need to learn more about it.

Tropic of Virgo and There Is A Light are one of my favorite fics. There Is A Light even more. I would give my left hand for this fic. ))) But I felt the focus not so much on him being famous, but yes he is in There Is A Light. I recognized so much of my own life in this, maybe that's why I love it so much.

The Blessing And The Curse was an original plot, but it's not a favorite of mine. But a lot of people praise it high. Maybe just not my case.

Haven't read the other fics yet.

I'm not familiar with There Is A Light. Can you tell me where to find this fic, or who the author is? Thanks!

I update that downloader this morning to version 0.8.2.

When that Flag stop working to download from FFN.net? I start to use that
FanFictionDownloader, and it has work fine until this morning??

I have never use that “”Calibre “” and I download / install software this morning
first time in my computer. ( Windows Vista )
How that Calibre download those fanfictions from FFN.net??
I try and oh well …

I am very good with computers but now I have to admit,

I don’t know how to download from FFN using that Calibre.

I have done more difficult things in my computer = video editing, converting =.

Is that FanFiction.net now deliberately blocking FanFictionDownloader???

It's 5 in the morning but I can confirm FFDL is not working.

Everything working fine for me....no empty chapters and no issues....

I've been slightly savoir faire about the whole Flag.com situation (on a personal level, I'm hopping mad about it in principle as seen on FFN!

) as I tend to use FFDL for the most part, so the idea of FFDL going bye bye? I'd be screwed!

You have to add the fanfictiondownloader plug-in to Calibre. Calibre does not come automatically with the ability to download fanfics.

Yes, storymaster is also still working. Used it yesterday for a bunch of fics.

I just tried to use the fanfictiondownloader desktop version and I too get only empty chapters. Apparently this is not working at the moment.

I actually like it. You don't get the metadatas like with Calibre and the pic like with flagfic, but it works smoothly. It e-mails the story to you and if there is a lot of traffic you might have to wait quite a time, but for my downloading system it's a good addition instead of flagfic.

Never used Storymaster...off to a meeting but will check it out once I'm back at the computer...

Storymaster has a lot going for it. You can download authors entire works in one go, their favourites and even their reviews. You can download a whole community, it is pretty impressive. The only thing is that you get your files emailed to you and you have to download them to your computer before unzipping them and uploading to calibre but that is not too bad.

Well written complaint. I want to say I do understand ads. That's the main way they make money. But lately I can't see the stories on the author pages because of a floating ad on my phone. It's hard to read when the link is under the ad.

But whatever. I won't go there on the 1st of November.

To get TWCS to give you updates on fav stories and not just new, you need to add the story itself to your fav list. Just adding the author will only give you when they add a new fic.

Thought I did that, Will have to double check.

PREACH! I've been saying we need to do something as a collective....Ads I don't care about at all, I never read FFN on my phone or iPad and I've got adbock on my computer so....I definitely will boycott on the 1st.
