  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

I'm going to test your theory. I started Edward Cullen Dick for Hire yesterday and just started Let Your Light Shine, switching between the two at ch ends. It feels weird having two sets of E/B in my head. I usually read all of one story (or series) straight through. At least these stories are quite different from one another. I'll let you know how it goes  ;)
Part of the problem is I have too many reading devices.  And different things on each. So whichever I grab dictates what I'm reading most of the time. Unless something really grabs me. Then I tend to hang on to that device until I'm done.  ;D

We are just going to ignore my ADD tendencies.  Because I'm sure it has nothing to do with my inability to read a full story at once.   :-\  :D :D :D

:D My ADD emerges as hyperfocus so I get stuck in one thread of thinking and have great difficulty pulling myself away enough to see what else is going on around me. Rather than jumping from tree to tree in the forest, I get lost in one tree, all its branches, each leaf...the pinecones...and I'll miss that it has started raining...or that mountain lion is stalking me... The plus side is that I am quite successful at being detail oriented--I just have to remind myself to have human moments like eating when I get lost.

So the ch of one and ch of another isn't working well. Probably because lolashoes' chapters are so short. I'm going to try an hour of this and then an hour of that.

LYLS was one of my first fics and I LOVED it.   The second one was good too, but I never read the third...  I need to move that up my list!   I love vampward!   And I've heard good things about DfH...    LOL, the title cracks me up though.

I'm about 60% through Boy in the Red Sweater and am enjoying it so far. It's high school E&B, though has some dark themes
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
I'll post again once I've finished, hopefully with a positive review! One gripe I have that has come up in this fic is when the author profusely thanks her beta team at the start of a poorly edited chapter  .
Looking forward to hearing what you think about this one...   It gets rave reviews.

The ones I haven't read are all in my TBR list.

Lolashoes trilogy      IMO, one of those "must read" fanfics - very lemony too.
Betty Smith - The Gentleman From Washington State      Read this NOW
rmcrms5 - The Perfect Wife      A difficult read - I read this early on and as a WIP and it was disturbing, but very good.
FictionFreak95 aka FL95 - Edward Cullen, Dick for Hire plus Dick in Me inc outtakes      Good fics
johnnyboy7 - There Will Be Blood inc There Will Be Freedom      I haven't yet read the sequel and read TWBB as a WIP. Plot is good, but it needs some proof reading and tidying up.
The Gentleman from Washington State is that good, huh?  I guess I should send that one on to my Kindle then!   I haven't read any politician-wards. :)

Lolashoes' trilogy are of the best vampire fics I've read, up there with Grasping Darkness, which I really loved.

Thanks for the reminder about Grasping Darkness...   I'm reading Stranger that Fiction right now and am so over the moon in love with this fic that I might just find myself on a vampward streak after I finish this one.    I have missed my truly canon Edward!

My OCD tendencies put me in the same one tree situation!   I have tunnel vision when it comes to good reads!  Who needs to worry with cleaning house or other responsible things when you could be hanging out in said tree with one of many smexy Edwards!

Someone out there gets it! :cheer: It makes me a voracious reader, and it's so satisfying to get lost in a story.

I tried a little experiment a while back. In an attempt to recapture that excitement of waiting for a WIP to update, while still catering for my WIPhobia, I decided to pick 7 fics from my TBR and just read from each one on a set day of the week.

The experiment failed by Day 2.

I can only read on thing at a time - no matter how bad it is, once I start it, I finish it and nothing else gets a look in.

When I read your pine tree analogy, I knew exactly what you were talking about - in fact, I was up there, smelling the pine fresh scent with you!

Now that I'm doing a little more betaing, I'm really challenging myself - which is a good thing. I have 4 fics on the go, plus a few contest entries, plus the actual fic I'm reading (which, BTW, is still Blood and Glory from the Gravity series by Drotuno).

Also,  I get any bones that Lauren throws my way, but they are not a challenge - I know she will finish them and they're so well written that they're more a pleasure to read than a chore. The hardest part is Americanising them!

Why do Americans have to forget the u, change the s to a z, and put a fullstop after Mr?  :pulling

Ok folks, Stranger Than Fiction, how long do I have to suffer through Bella screwing Thomas or whatever he is? Not liking that at ALL. Knowing she didn't stay a lonely virgin all along is one thing, actually reading it in detail is another.

I got so distracted by your avi that I forgot what I wanted to say. That tongue looks so long, thick and strong.

So, yes, have you read Resolutions by DoUTrustme? You asked for a vamp Fic and this is an a/u Fic. It is different, but does have the original Twi feel and characters. I got this on the 152 thread.
Very well written, witty banter between characters and like I said a different take on vamps but good.

Lamelurker, i am sooooooooooo sorry!!! I was scrolling through the replies when my screen suddenly "blinked" tellng me i pressed on something. Looks like i pressed the red thumbs down  :o :(  I am left handed and scroll with my left finger  ;D  I checked and only you and ella on the page i am reading had thumb downs so i figured i hit the one under either your names. Tried to give you both a thumbs up and it said karmas can be given only after 24 hours under yours, thereby confirming i inadvertantly gave you one.  :( :(  Again, i am really sorry, i know you notice the numbers there. Tomorrow i will offset that karma and give you a thumbs up. Do give me a thumbs down if it will help.  :P

At least it does prove that thumb downs can really be pressed accidentally. Truly sorry as you know i really enjoy your comments and recs.  :-*

Agree with you on this. I have to finish something i started so i don't flounce but skim a lot til i get to the end. I also can't read more than 1 book at a time. The stories and characters get confused in my head, hindering my "joy" or "feel" for the work i am reading. This is specially true reading fanfics, with the characters all named the same or same type of 'ward, it is hard to keep up which story is which.  :P as it is, i still sometimes get confused or deja vu thinking "didn't this happen earlier" until i realize it didn't happen in this story but to another actorward, ceoward, athleteward, HSward etc.  :P Keeping track seems to be getting harder as i grow older  :( 8)

With that said, let me thank you guys for rec'ing

Absolutely loved this HSward, clueless yet sweet. Also found it great that Bella was a better ball player than him. A take charge and not entirely dependent Bella is refreshing  :) Loved how they were best friends since 7 yrs old and they grew from there.

Actually, I said (or meant to, lol) it didn't matter if it was vampfic or ah, so long as it had that same first love feel.

:) No worries! I do notice, but it has been more a thing of wondering what I was doing wrong and not knowing when I suddenly had 3 negs. I was recently reading another thread and people were getting personal and nasty, it's always nice to chat with you ladies here. Everyone's welcoming and you are able to express or differ in opinions without getting mean. It just shows the difference. So thanks to everyone for being themselves and for being good people! :-*

Shoot! I wouldn't mind more of that kind of ADD.  My house never gets clean because I always get distracted. So I start one thing, see something elastic do, switch to a third thing, next thing hours have gone by and only a small patch has been cleaned.  And then I'm a perfectionist so when I do clean? It has to be perfect.  Sigh.

So I give up and read. :P. :D :D

So I read You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, and I'm so glad I did.

I know some of you said that Barefoot in Texas was so much better but I think Deviant was a bit better. Why? well because I read Barefoot in Texas as soon as it was complete which was a couple of months ago, but for the life of me I can't remember a thing about it, it wasn't memorable. Am I making sense? I love Manchu  and I don't think I've ever read a fic were Edward has a mustache, a beard yes but not a 'stache. ;)

And he has a dog that rides on a sidecar attached to his motorcycle, with goggles and his own best matching Edwards.

Is that cute or is that cute.

I recreated his mother's recipes when he was homesick. I made meal plans when he had to gain or lose weight for a role. And when he wanted chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne for another woman he was bringing home, I made them with all the love in my heart—the love he'd never see. So I showed him with my food.

So far we have been lucky that all the ladies who stick around have been really great.  I haven't seen much nastiness on PTS, but I've also noticed that a lot of the not so pleasant ladies on Facebook are recommending coming here for missing stories.  So I keep worrying they might start something.  But so far so good. I will keep my fingers crossed that they don't come here.  ;)

There you go, making me imagine how "flexible" you are.

Have to banish pervy thoughts as am off to my Sunday lunch at my mom's. Today, my siblings and I are throwing a party for her 85th bday (which is actually tom). so I will be seeing some of my cousins i havent seen in a while. We made sure the invite was just for our aunts/uncles and our 1st cousins plus their spouses as we are quite a big family (i am the youngest and 42nd cousin, so do the math!). But am sure some will still bring their kids  ;D

Glad this day arrived as my mom has been in and out of the hospital for COPD the past 2 weeks. She's also diabetic, taking daily shots of insulin for several years now. Except for those illness, she is fine and her mind is still as sharp as before. I still give her Mills & Boon books to read  :) We are thankful she reached her 85th as since my dad died 5 yrs ago, she has been saying she is "ready to go anytime". My only wish for her birthday is she doesn't get too sick or suffer during her last days, hopefully several years from now yet.
