  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

I think the timing of when you read a fic and the kind of mood you are in can really affect whether or not you like a fic...  I'm convinced thats why I didn't like Clipped Wings & Inked Armor...   just read it at the wrong time and it wasn't what I was looking for.   :(

Oh yeah, sometimes mood is everything! Usually when something is decently written, but just isn't catching me, I'll set it aside for later. I still need to get back to EP.

Maybe 2 was entitled You're The One and starts at chapter 15. There are other versions of Maybe that combined the original 2 documents. I think that's what she means. Unless there's another...that would be nice!

That's it. I had two versions. One with it and one without.

You are not the only one that just couldn't get into CW&IA, I struggled too and I read it quiet early on in my Twific 'career' SavvyB would tell me off every time I admitted not enjoying the story it is still on my iPad waiting to be finished...it might be the ONLY fic I ever flounced. *runs and hides as CW&IA fans pick up their stones  :D*

Lord! I am really suffering from Alzheimer's! I've read Maybe, I have it ticked on my Calibre but for the life of me I can't remember what it was about! Shame on me as 107 is one of my favourite writers.

I have that problem with a lot of fics/books-8406 unless they really stand out.

Maybe - Bella works for a magazine (kinda like Rolling Stones) that looks out for new and upcoming talent and she scopes them out. Edward, Jasper, and Mike are in a band. Edward is broken in this fic, so that was my draw.

And CW&IA I read as a wip long ago. It was good and at the time I thought it was something else. But years later, there are many that are just as good. You have to remember back in the day my wip list was:

Motu I and II
CW&IA
The Office
The Dominant, The Submissive, The Training
EP
Help Wanted
University of Edward Masen
The Red Line
Darkness
I am sure I am missing some because I ONLY had wips and I was reading everyday.

Now they are all the classics.  :D

My trip to Oregon
« Reply #2588 on: August 09, 2013, 04:26 AM »
OK, my SD card from my camera is in my laptop, so as promised........................

Haystack Rock is probably the most photographed place. We spent a day at Cannon Beach, Indian Beach, and Ecola Park on the coast.

As the tide went out, you could see Starfish, Anemones, etc. Many colors of starfish and they were HUGE. Since I live in the south on the Atlantic Coast, it was weird to see so many rocks. It was also cold. Air temp was low 60's and the water was in the low 50's. My feet were numb for awhile and that is ALL I got in the water to get up close to the rocks and take pics. Make sure if you go, be there at low tide. It was awesome.

Mt. Hood is a volcano and glacier, so it has snow year round. We went up on the ski lift and although we didn't ski, it was weird to see skiers in shorts, short sleeves, etc. We played in the snow in shorts !!

We went to Multnomah Falls. The second tallest falls in the USA. It is 625ft. It was a b.i.t.ch to climb. Damn I am not as young as I use to be.

(Sorry, had to adjust the size of the pics to 450 so they won't crash the thread.  They are very beautiful though ;) - Ella)

Nope, not alone.  I read 2 chapters and flounced also. Or rather I put it aside for when I was more in the mood.  It maybe that I only have it in PDF as well & I have had trouble reading them on my kindle.  It has to majorly grab me to deal with the small print.  And when I say small?  I mean tiny.  :P

The Cullen Legacy

Legacy - A gift; sometimes unknowingly bestowed. Really great pictures RD.  I've been to the Canadian glaciers in the summer. It is a weird feeling to be on the snow in summer clothes.  Glad you had such a good time.  :)

I am 90% complete with Rush by Maya Banks. Good enough so far to read the next two.

Thanks for coming out of the closet, ladies!!   I really did think that I was the only one on the planet that didn't like this.  I keep telling myself I'll read it again someday to give it another try, but there are so many other things to read I doubt I'll ever get around to it.   I think around 65% I started skimming and them around 75% I just quit reading it...   so, if there was an HEA I never made it to that part.    Maybe if I had seem how things wrapped up I would have liked it better?

I think you might really like Tara Sue Me's trilogy--many lemons and a really good story. Yes, they were all pulled to publish. I have been following, but not reading this. I'm so glad it's finally complete so I can!

On another note, I'm now succeeding at reading two books at once! I think it helps that they are polar opposites--there is no mistaking Lolashoes' A Life Extraordinary with Vannetta Chapman's A Promise for Miriam (Pebble Creek Amish 1). It's kind of funny to sit back and see these two books on my computer screen.  :D

Thank you!   I just realized that I had this on my TBR list at Goodreads and it somehow got buried.   I think I'll read these next!   I'm reading Collide by Gail McHugh right now and I'm 65% in and just not feeling it.   I mean, it's good...  but I've read so many similar stories that it just doesn't really stand out.   You are not allowed to view links. I have been bitten for awhile. I am sure most of you have read more than me. I just cannot keep up with working 14-15 hours 5 days a week and then to go home and trying to get something done. I cannot read every night anymore. I try, but I fall asleep holding my ipad.

I think the hardest of the above is The Red Line. That just about killed me reading as a WIP. EP wasn't fun in spots either as a WIP. She would go a month without updating and when she did it was like 78 pages. I still have probably 20 wips I keep up at the same time today, and while I wait for an update, I will start reading a completed one. Just recently I have added a few books in the mix. Thus far my fav books have been from the following:
Laura Kaye
Olivia Cunning
Sylvia Day
Felicity Heaton

I have read others, but like what some have said, it is not that they are not good or bad. It is just the plot or the writing just blends into everything else and it doesn't stand out or stay with you like some do.

WinndSinger's The Red Line was a tough read, but so great! I loved it so much (plus the sequel Coloring Outside the Lines).

Thanks for the tips on the RL authors, they're all on my TBR. As I mentioned, I'm reading an Amish story right now and before that a bunch of Mail Order Bride stories that mostly blend together, yet are so appealing in some way.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
. With these characters, I'm able to imagine hero/ines that are not E/B. Maybe it's that they are so different from the fanfic I can finally see new characters. Usually when I try a contemporary romance, E/B always pops up in my head, and I wonder if the book was previosly fanfic!

Well, thank you very much for sharing the pictures!  They are beautiful! Did I see correctly that that area is about 70 miles from Portland airport?

Thanks for the tips on the authors...  I've read Backstage Pass by OC and the Crossfire series by SD, but don't think I've read any by the others.

It took us about 2 hrs to get to the coast, but we stayed on the southeast side of Portland.

Laura Kaye was LauraACullen in the fandom. I never read her ff work before she pulled, so her books and writing style was new to me. To my knowledge, none of her published books were prior FF though. There isn't much of hers I have not read.

Felicity Heaton is a british author - I have read all the angel series and just a few of Vampire erotic theater ones.
Angel series:

Their wings hidden from mortal eyes by glamour, angels walk amongst us on Earth, some here to protect, some to hunt demons, and others to watch and record the history of our world. They are beautiful passionate men who are torn between the orders of their masters and those of their hearts, and they are far from saintly. Their desire and need are intense, and it takes an equally passionate and strong woman to tame them and win the heart of her angel...

You will need to read them in order. They build on each other. They are also action packed (all kinds - snort) with deeper plots.

Vampire Erotic Theater
Enter the dark, sinful and seductive world of the four vampire owners of London's premier vampire erotic theatre, Vampirerotique, and discover how these powerful vampires will be brought to their knees by the women who claim their hearts--a mortal, a werewolf, a vampire, and an angel.

I liked the Angel series better. Maybe I will try her other series next before reading all of the Vampire Erotic Theater ones.  These are short. Like 100 pages or so.
