  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

WinndSinger's The Red Line was a tough read, but so great! I loved it so much (plus the sequel Coloring Outside the Lines).

Thanks for the tips on the RL authors, they're all on my TBR. As I mentioned, I'm reading an Amish story right now and before that a bunch of Mail Order Bride stories that mostly blend together, yet are so appealing in some way.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
. With these characters, I'm able to imagine hero/ines that are not E/B. Maybe it's that they are so different from the fanfic I can finally see new characters. Usually when I try a contemporary romance, E/B always pops up in my head, and I wonder if the book was previosly fanfic!

I loved In Your World by solosintwilight. She is another author I have always read everything as a wip.
Has anyone read The Selkie Wife by Lissa Bryan?

That's the only story I've read by solosintwilight, but I loved it.

I really liked The Selkie Wife by Lissa Bryan, (but not as much her story Written in the Stars). It's the only selkie story I have ever read, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I enjoyed their struggle and romance.

I wondered if the plot was close to My Viking (which makes my heart pitter-patter). Taken, but still found love. I read Written in the Stars as a wip as well as Dark Goddess on Lissa.
Solosintwilight - I have read everything.

I am still waiting for My Viking to finish before I start it (and I was thrilled to see it update in July). Ugh. Waiting on that one is like :pulling

But yes, sounds similar in plot.

Yes, but it is long from finishing, with no promises when she can update. I have never re-read anything(there is too many I want to read), but this one I just might re-read once it is complete. I can say from experience that wips read different than completed ones.
But this story is why I watched Vikings TV series.

I second this.  There are a number of stories I loved as a WIP. But when I went back to reread them in one go as a completed fic? Yeah, not such a big fan anymore.  And some of it may be because I know what's coming next, so there are no real cliff hangers.  Also, there are usually too many lemons.  But reading as a WIP? I don't notice it.   ;D

Yes, there can be too many lemons.  It's hard to believe I know.....  :D :D :D :D

There's the  The Selkie Man, which I've read, it was pretty good...

A summer studying Scottish folktales leads to Bella Swan meeting a stranger unlike anyone she has ever met. Can she let herself believe that myth and legend might also be reality?

I can agree. I didn't think there was such a thing as too many lemons. As wips, even if you have a lemon in every chp they are a month or so apart for the reader. I was in the middle of reading the first Angel series of Drutuno and just kinda of abandoned. It was getting a little redundant.  I started two other books and read a fanfic between. Hard to say at this point if I will go back.

Your other point of knowing what is coming next maybe why I don't re-read. I am ok with knowing the general plot and I would be pissed if I didn't know it was HEA, but knowing all the details, naaaahhhh.

I can't read WIPs (I think you call it WIPhobia?), so I run into the lemon problem often. I'm not shy about lemons of almost any kind, but sometimes it's way too much. Unfortunately, I am not a flouncer either so I get kind of stuck sometimes. I want to know how the story ends, so I keep reading and getting frustrated. As you know, I'm having that problem now with A Life Extraordinary. The story is good, but having 1, 2 or more lemons per chapter is frustrating even if they are written well. I'm balancing it with an Amish fic. Go figure.

This reminds me of the only fic I've ever abandoned and why I accidentally flounced it, Heartbreak Remedy by dariachenowith. Part of me wants to go back and read it because I HATE not knowing what happened to that couple (and there was a sequel). Did anyone ever read it? Is it worth going back to? (At the time, I started reading the Other Side of the Fence and got completely absorbed in that great story and then went on to something else).

I am quite sure there are many more gems that I have missed over the years.

I was wondering (as this was STP 152 twilight fanfics when I started lurking) how this fantastic thread began?

I read the first one of Lolashoes, and abandoned the 2nd. Again repetition.

Heartbreak Remedy and the sequel, I didn't read, but I had a friend who enjoyed reading and doing some really kinky stuff, but even she had to abandon the sequel. It was just too much for her. So, I have stayed clear. I have heard a lot about what happens in the fics though. Um....no....not for me. I ain't sharing Edward. Period.

Thanks. That part didn't bother me or the BDSM elements, it was constantly trying to sift through the lemons for the story. (Although I prefer for B/E not to share.)

Well when I came here in Oct 2011, there was just a few of us and we started asking for fics that was pulled that no-one seemed to have anywhere. Back then we had no warning when things disappeared via ff witchhunts or author pulling. We started sharing what we had and what we knew about whom. It later split into two places. One to talk (as you can see we are quite talkative) and one place to share the pulled stories. Back years ago, I could keep up with the one thread and post stories I had. With the explosion of the calibre and the wonderful ladies copying everything by authors in one fail swoop, I will forever be indebted to you. I don't have time to pull down stories anymore, so I have let the younger, more energetic ones blast through and if I need something, I will ask. Back in the day before flagfic, etc. I copied and pasted each chp into word. That was a pain in the A.s.s.

I had to go back and look. Oh wow, I surfaced on page 2 of the original thread. Awl....I am like grandma.  :D :D :D

It is my understanding though on the BDSM it makes, TaraSue's triology, The RedLine, and Motu very very very tame.
They were enough for me.

Another WIP completed:

The Cullen Legacy
Author: pattyrose  PM
Legacy - A gift; sometimes unknowingly bestowed. Bella met Edward in a London pub, never imagining where each would be 7 years later: he a Congressman fueled by ever-growing political ambition, she the woman with an explosive secret that can end all his dreams. But Bella might soon find that revenge isn't all it's cracked up to be, and that Edward may harbor his own dark secrets.

I've been reading this as a WIP and have really enjoyed it.  I think D_D has been reading it as well.  I really have enjoyed what I've read so far by Pattyrose.  I got my update notice, but I've not had a chance to read it yet today.  I'll relax with the last chapter later.
