Wasn't there a fanfic where Bella worked for a company that makes these things?  I don't think it ever completed though.  I remember watching it for a while.   :P

I really wanted to order one.  I guess I could hide it in my closet.... ;D

Team of beautiful, genius robotics engineers?  Check.

Hot employers?  Check.

The project of a lifetime – to create a line of ‘Companion Robots’ who could fulfill a girl’s every need?  Check.

But whose idea was it to make them look like the boss and his sons?

And who’s going to test these naughty bots?

You’ll just have to read and find out.

I only know this because I have been following Becomes The Swan by venomousgal since 2009 ( :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:) and the robot fic sits under it in the author's profile page.

I have been reading a few books recently and came across this one - Perfect Harmony by Sarah P. Lodge.

I don't ever remember reading it as a fic but, I think it must have been - does anybody know?

It isn't all that great to be honest and I have 'postponed' it for the time being.

On the subject of books I am really enjoying the FBI US Attorney series by Julie James - well written and edited properly - worth checking out.

I don't know about Perfect Harmony, but I scurried over to Good Reads to look for the Julie James fic you mentioned (of course!) and saw this one that sounds like it could be twific/RP fic (I would never read *cringe* RP fic).

No woman could resist him—except the one he wanted most...

Cool, Calm, Collected...

Nothing fazes Taylor Donovan. In the courtroom she never lets the opposition see her sweat. In her personal life, she never lets any man rattle her—not even her cheating ex-fiancé. So when she's assigned to coach People's "Sexiest Man Alive" for his role in his next big legal thriller, she refuses to fall for the Hollywood heartthrob's charms. Even if he is the Jason Andrews.

Confident, Famous, Irresistible...

Jason Andrews is used to having women fall at his feet. When Taylor Donovan gives him the cold shoulder, he's thrown for a loop. She's unlike any other woman he's ever met: uninterested in the limelight, seemingly immune to his advances, and shockingly capable of saying no to him. She's the perfect challenge. And the more she rejects him, the more he begins to realize she may just be his perfect match.

I am about halfway through You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login.

The first chapter was in dire need of proof-reading and a beta. The second chapter was marginally better as far as SPaG goes, but each chapter has improved. It's still not perfect, but it's not rip-your-hair-out bad anymore.

The thing that kept me reading was the storyline. It is actually really quite good. There is no dancing on top of a taxi in shorty shorts. This fic is about what happens in a long-term relationship when one of them finally hits the big time. It's teared me up a few times and has kept me reading.

If you do give this fic a go, persevere through the SPaG. I think it's worth it.

It's confusing for me, because I'm often unsure if some phrase is incorrect or not.
On the other hand, things like their/there/they're etc drive me crazy because it's something we learned over and over and over at school.
My son had his first real Grammar lessons for English last school year and had to learn the different meanings etc. But perhaps it's easier for foreigners because we learn the vocabulary more visual, reading and memorizing the words and their meanings while those with English as a mothertongue speak the words first and learn to write them later...

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
That is probably correct.  And if they learn it verbally incorrectly, they will probably never learn it correctly unless they really want to.  ;D

We were talking about this at school this week. Our Year 2 class have been testing really poorly in spelling. We think it goes back to the way they speak. Most of them are either only children or the baby in the family, and the way they talk is really immature.

When the teacher and I have raised this concern with parents, we have been shocked by the response: "Oh, but it's so cute!"

We have just started an intensive 5 week spelling intervention program to try and erase the bad habits.

There will be no more "fwee" for "three", "thorgot" for "forgot", "dot" for "got"!  :040:

You wax yourself?! You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login I'm in awe....

I keep hearing that but I think this new wave actually is not really painful. If you wax then this is no more painful than that.. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login (this is the one I have and it changed my life)

I shave. I only do my pits in Winter (I do think it helps with odour issues) - my legs are covered by long pants and because I'm the only one who sees them ( :'(), I don't see the point.

We had a little heat wave last week - 31C / 88F - and I needed to do some spring cleaning. By the time I'd finished, my skin was lovely and smooth again but it looked like a gorilla had been shedding in my shower! And my legs looked glow in the dark white!

My issue with waxing is that I have to let the regrowth get long enough to wax, and because my leg hair is so dark and my skin is so fair, I actually shave every day in summer.

I tried an epilady a few years ago - and nearly died! I sneezed and sneezed and sneezed - something to do with the hairs being tugged out. I used to sneeze when I had my hair streaked too, back in the days when they used the caps and the crochet hooks, rather than foils.

Okay, I've got to go now and, may be patchy for a couple of weeks as we set off on holiday in the morning.

Let's hope there is another heatwave!

Take care everyone.   :-*

I hope you have a great holiday - and will be sending our weather your way.  :-*

Good for you! And good on Minimoe!

I'm talking about 7 & 8 year olds - by which time they should have developed the muscle usage to form sounds correctly.

We even have a few children whose parents have told us that they can't chew properly - because the parents either blend food for them or cut it up into tiny pieces.

Again - I'm talking about 7 & 8 year olds!

That is just horrible! At least you and your colleague are being permitted to do something about it. The intensive spelling initiative sounds like a great idea. Maybe with recitation lessons too? I hope it works out or these kids will be seeing speech pathologists when they're older.  :(

We already run a speech program at school (that we are not funded for - we are funded for one half-day visit a term from the speech pathologist), but the problem is that their parents don't correct them at home when they slip back into their bad habits.

I might be misinterpreting, but what do you mean by "are permitted to do something about it"? Do you mean permission from the parents or permission from the Department of Education?

Because if you mean the parents - that has caused all sorts of drama. Before it even started, the program was "too hard", it "would label the child", the other children would "make fun of the child", it might "upset" the child, etc.

Honestly, we just want to help the kids out before it gets too late. I get that parents want their kids to be happy, but so do we. I have spent hours developing a program specifically levelled for each child. No other child will know what's going on - they are all used to working with different adults so we don't have that stigma of children being removed for remedial classes, and it is going to be hard work for the children - and for me - but how does anyone progress without effort?

Parents don't want to hear that their child is behind, and they don't seem to realise that once they are behind, they usually stay there unless they get some support.

Sometimes, I wonder if it's all worth it.

I had trouble with correctly pronouncing my R's when I was 6-7-8ish (can't remember exactly, although I do remember the room and the lessons) and was taken out of class to meet with a speech teacher (I think it was like a weekly thing).  I went to a really small elementary school, there was like 90 kids in the whole school (K-5th grade) so everyone in my class was aware of when the "special kids" left.  I don't remember being labeled or made fun of by the other kids.  To me it was fun, and I remember "regressing" on purpose so that I could continue to go back after I was supposedly fixed.  So it is worth it.

Now with my 22 month old daughter my husband makes sure we use the correct word back to our daughter, not repeat her cute pronunciations so that she still hears the correct word and doesn't associate the incorrect pronunciation as the right way to say things.

That's wonderful! It is such a simple way to help your daughter learn, but it will have a profound effect on her language and  literacy development.

The school you went to sounds very much like my school - we have around 90 kids from 4 to 13 years of age (8 grades), except none of our kids are withdrawn for support.

Actually, you could probably say that they are all withdrawn at least 2 or 3 times a week. The kids all work with teacher aides, teachers and me (in my other role of support teacher) so they are all used to having extra adults in the classroom and kids moving in and out all the time. I think a lot of the parents must have had negative experiences at school and that's why they think their kid will get teased or ostracised. Of course, if they were actually involved in the school, they would know what goes on.

One mother is "too busy" to speak to me on the phone or attend meetings, but she somehow finds the time to send her children's teachers lengthy - very lengthy! - emails. And this mum doesn't work, doesn't have little ones at home, but does seem to spend a lot of time inviting other parents (and even staff members) to play candy crush and farmville with her on facebook.

Hmmmm. Judgy principal is judgy today.

If the kids are used to being moved around, then maybe you just need to give the time tailored to speech a different name, one that could apply to an activity that all students do?

I was ostracized as a child (after my speech therapy was over, more cause I was different and came from a different area than most of the girls in my grade), I just didn't know it.  The teachers told my parents about it, and apparently it was bad enough when I was 10 that they sent me to counseling for it, but I was practically oblivious before. So kids will be kids no matter what.

So, since I'm loving And With Thee Fade Away so much I was looking at some others by Derdriu O'Faolain and it seems Expectations and Other Moving Pieces & The Blessing and the Curse are two other popular ones...  Have you guys read either one of them?  (edited to add...  these are NOT by that author...   Not sure what I was thinking...   Pretty sure they showed up under her FFN page)
