Done ! Btw your icon is distracting. Hum... I have read a fireward. And have more on my list too.
*chants* fireward must wait. Fireward must wait.

I got FBIward first.

Lol that is why I put it there.  I love fireward,  I have to check google docs to find the names of some more.  I am sure I have them in caliber just to many to go thru.

Yes FBIward,  Thief of hearts here I come.

Awwww. Now I know why there was so much chatter about Terroir--what a lovely story! Nice and light. No angst or drama, just a simple romance set in the vineyards of Australia. Thanks for encouraging me to read this one. I wish I would have read it a little slower so that this B/E would still be around. I hope Thimbles posts a futuretake some day.

(Here's a link in case I'm not the last person to read this story.)

I really liked Terrior, very realistic. I almost instantly fell in love this Edward. My favorite stories are the ones that you would actually see happening in your life, so I guess not fluff. What would you define it as?

Good question. I guess there's a fine line between being realistic and filling a romance with fluffy details that have no bearing on the plot. I wouldn't say Terroir has fluff. When they have a picnic scene, there's dialogue that moves the plot/t7608 forward. In other stories, it's just a picnic. Maybe there's a dog chasing the waves at the beach. Sometimes those are lemony scenes. Yes, it's a realistic event, but if it doesn't have any relevance, it's just filler. And annoys the crap out of me. I skim.

Yes! I usually can't explain myself well. I like realistic that moves the plot forward. I'm not saying there can't be any type of filler scenes just not to many.

Just finished this, I liked it. I felt more like a book to me than a fic... does that make sense? The only problem is that I felt like the ending wasn't worth it, 84 chapters and then it suddenly ended. The author did say it was Edward's story and that his story was done so it was time to end it but still it could have had a better ending.

So I went to add this to my TBR list. I hadn't heard of the Author. When I looked at what else she had on her list, I seem to have several TBR of hers.

She is the Author of In the Flesh for the Dirty Talking Edward Contest. In my opinion it was the best one. Any idea why she pulled it from the contest ?? Didn't know that either.

If her other one shots are half as good as In the Flesh and the one recommended above, I will need to follow this author ! Anyone read anything else she has written?

Possibly because of all of the controversy surrounding the contest?  I certainly wouldn't want to have an entry in it.  I feel bad for those that do.

There is one story with a ridiculously high review count. It's highly suspect how fast that count shot up out of the blue one day when it was on a par with the rest for some time. That does not happen in contests unless there's a solid reason.

There were several reviews on that story (which may have been removed, but since I'm nosy I was reading all about it in one of my TwiFic groups.  LOL  Here's what they said:

Quote
As wonderfully written as this story is, this contest entry barely meets the objective of this contest as the premise of this story is not based on Edward's actual words, but essentially CHEATS in using a cheapening plot device framed around the famous quotes and words of OTHERS. I personally loved this story and found the writing to be fantastic, yet think it's not an appropriate entry for this particular contest because HIS WORDS ARE NOT HIS OWN. While the authors of the other entries in the contest showcase their talents, coming up with original dirty talking dialogue, the dirty talking in this entry is 99 percent non-original. Does the last 400 words of almost a 16,000 word story constitute a valid entry, and is that even fair to the other entrants in this contest?

It barely skirts by. Barely.

I've read all of the entries and this is the one that doesn't comply with the spirit and the rules of this contest as presented, and that's clearly unfair (also, 1,000 words over the limit? Where there no consistent standards for this contest? I've read/voted in lots of contests, and the challenge for many writers is to stay within guidelines set - why were two particular authors given a pass when the others complied, even while the contest rules state that ALL submissions will be validated upon receipt for adherence to rules? The header and footer on both entries were less than 200 words - why are two entries in this contest allowed to break the rules? It makes me question whether certain authors are benefiting from favoritism, especially this entry, which grossly surpasses the contest limit and barely meets the contest goal in the first place). I think that's a disservice to all of the entrants in this contest, and the readers taking the time to read and vote in this contest. Take away the first 15,000 words or so, and what would this entry actually be without the "borrowed" words of other famous writers? I'm surprised more people are not upset by how unfair this is, and aren't questioning why this entry even qualified.

This isn't fair to the other participants. As a reader and someone who's really enjoyed following fic contests for a few years now, this is very disappointing to see.

And then there was this one:

Quote
This is the first time I've ever read an entry in a contest before, but after seeing this pimped on twitter so much, I decided to read it to see what all the excitement was about.

Unfortunately, I didn't find the excitement. This fic is mostly the words of other, popular authors. The lemon was dry. Their banter was cute, and I believe the author of this fic could very well have written something wonderful using his or her own words, rather than use quotes of other authors. It's disturbing to see so many people wearing their rose-colored glasses. It seems like the author of this fic intentionally used famous works of others to capture the attention of the readers, and make the readers feel intelligent by swooning over popular quotes the author could not create themselves.

After skimming through the reviews, I also found a reader who seemingly agrees with me. I noticed his/her comment concerning the word count, so I copy and pasted the fic, without the header and note at the bottom, into Word and it surpassed the contest rule word length by hundreds. I find it very fishy that this fic has been pimped so much on twitter, is so well-enjoyed by so many, yet almost everyone is completely oblivious to the blatant rule-breaking, and so easily disregard the fact that the author uses other people's words in most of the entirety of this fic.

Where is your OWN dirty talk?

There could be some more steaminess to the fic, but overall it's a cute fic. I simply find it disturbing that the rules are allowed to be broken in a public contest like this. Do you other authors not care? Why haven't you stood up for your stories? This makes me question the authenticity of an 'anon' contest. If a popular ff author pimps this fic, without caring that it breaks the rules by surpassing word length, uses other authors' 'dirty talk,' and has lemons as dry as the dessert, how can this be an anon contest? Methinks a little 'elbow rubbing' has been going on.

Barely skirts by? No. This fic doesn't skirt by at all.

And the big one:

Quote
The buzz around this particular entry was strange considering it's not that great, doesn't follow the contest rules and doesn't contain original dirty dialogue. The fact that it was allowed into the contest made me raise my eyebrows.

I went through the reviews and BNA's like Ninapolitan and Katinki. Things didn't really add up because this entry breaks rules and fails to meet the objective, so to draw that kind of attention? It made me wonder if this entry belongs to a BNA too. Reviews inexplicably rose like a fast rocket on this one, so more questions. Until I was mistakenly forwarded a long string of emails discussing who wrote this entry and the angling behind the scenes to drive up buzz and gain more votes for their friend. Of course no one is talking about this publicly, but now everything, including the large amount of reviews and buzz for this entry that doesn't even fit the contest, falls into a clear line.

I've read and voted in lots of anonymous contests, but this is one of the more popular and followed ones. Is integrity dead? And do the contest people even care that this is happening? There are a lot of people aware of what's going on but it's become their dirty little secret to help their friend. There were clues that something was off recently, with a few reviewers speaking up, and yet here remains the entry that never even qualified to be entered in the first place.

I'm disappointed that XXXXXX and/or those around her would sink to cheating like this. I'm disappointed that this contest wasn't more carefully run or entries validated according to the rules, which are very clear. Just imagine how other authors who spent time writing for this must feel, if readers reviewing this entry are becoming upset. That's without even knowing about the blatant cheating. It's supposed to be an anonymous contest. Clearly it's not. If I was a writer for this contest, believing in a fair playing field, I'd be calling for this entry to be removed. It should be.

A certain group of people should be ashamed of themselves for shifty s*%t. I always believed that these contests were about the talent of the writer and who did the best with the theme and within the set # of words to make it a harder challenge. But it's not. It's just one big popularity contest for the few who have the minions to do their dirtiest work.

I think this is unfair. This entry needs to be disqualified.

I XX'd out the author, since I don't know if the reviewer was correct and I don't want to out the author of an anon contest.  Unless you want to PM me.

The original word count was 15,749, but now it's below the 15K limit.  Weirdness.

Thank you for these quotes. I had no idea about the drama. I don't think it's that weird that the review count was so high...sometimes that happens when someone posts how great something is, and it catches like wildfire (whether the 'it' deserves the recognition or not). However, if the story didn't adhere to the word count, I would imagine it would automatically be disqualified. Those are the rules. They can leave the entry up on the site, but it wouldn't be judged.

ETA: I looked at the DTE contest page and it says:

"Please note: In the Flesh was withdrawn at the author's request."

I think it's fair to also post this response by one of the hosts of the DTE contest to that last review that chippy posted.  I've been following and reading most of these contests for years, and this submission is one I read when it went public and really enjoyed.  It was so different and good that I text the link to a bunch of friends who then also read it and liked it.  I'm not on facebook or twitter and don't know any fic authors personally, except for lauren whom I only know from this site, so until I saw these posts, had no idea of the "drama" that was going on with this contest.

All I can say is that from my own reaction to this fic, I can understand why the review count is high.  I rarely specify which fic or fics I really enjoyed in a contest, just the contest itself, but I really liked this particular submission enough to point it out as a must read, especially, because I was hoping the author would continue it to a full story after the contest was over.  Just my take on it...

The host posted this 6 days ago and the entry is still up on the contest for voting so....

A response to an earlier review:

Off the bat, this is MagTwi78 responding. Will you do me the same courtesy of letting me know who I'm speaking to? I've just read your review and obviously I'm concerned. I would like to respond to a few key points you raised. This response will also be posted to the reviews for the story you refer to.

"The buzz around this particular entry was strange considering it's not that great, doesn't follow the contest rules and doesn't contain original dirty dialogue."

The disclaimer at the top of this (and all of) our entries states: 'The author does not own any publicly recognizable entities herein. No copyright infringement is intended.'

As the author references the quotes and the authors of said quotes, this covers the original part. The last part of the story includes 'dirty' dialogue said by Edward, so it ticks the 'dirty talking' box. We didn't specify the amount of dirty talking.

As for reviews rising, I can't explain it. Maybe because it was one of the last listed. I truly don't know. As for the string of emails you refer to; that hasn't been shared with me. I'd love to see it.

I agree that the DTE contest has become highly popular and followed. It shocks me as much as anybody else. As for integrity being dead - I take personal offence to that comment. I believe there are no friends in contests. As a host, and having hosted a contest previously, I remove myself from personal relationships. In the HEA contest, I disqualified one of my best fandom friends. It broke my heart, but I had to do what was fair. In that instance, the way the rules were broken was explicit — the author was outed by somebody who *knew* their entry. They made that publicly known.

In reference to your concerns with this entry, I take every point raised seriously. I'm a nobody in this pond, but one thing I take extremely seriously is my integrity. I believe in a fair go for everybody (and as your profile indicates you're Aussie, you'll get that). I cut my teeth in this fandom by writing for a contest - I want everybody to have the chance to do the same in a fair environment.

The point I take extremely seriously is that you've mentioned a specific author's name in your review. As I have no way of linking your name to the author you mention, I can't prove that this entry was or was not written by her. The only person on our contest team that knows who wrote what is our Secret Keeper. That you're insinuating that she leaked the author is quite frankly **super** insulting. If you have proof that dodgy behaviour is going on, by all means send it to me directly - melbtwimum AT gmail DOT COM

I assume you're including me for being involved in this 'shifty shit'. The entry includes dirty talk, doesn't include bestiality, and according to the word count I did on Microsoft Word (not including header, footer, summary, host's note) falls within the word count.

If you have direct, legitimate concerns, I'd appreciate hearing them. But I will not disqualify an entry based on speculation alone.

I agree with you that the O/S was awesome, though I agree with some of the other reviewers that I find it odd that the 'dirty talking' part is borrowed from other popular fanfics.  It's a really great concept, although I'm not sure it's entirely appropriate for a contest?  Prob why I stay away from all of that stuff.  That and the fact that I avoid contests in general since I'm a huge non-canon lover, and non-canon stuff never does well since lots of readers like only E&B.

I have to say that I never assumed that the reviewers were accusing the contest organizers of being shifty.  I thought the accusation was more towards the author?  Meh.  It really doesn't matter.  The contest organizers have dealt with it well IMO.
You held out your hand, and I took it without stopping to make sense of what I was doing. For the first time in almost a century, I felt hope.

Masen's words stopped my heart. The impatient fumbling of his fingers started it back up again as he ran his thumb along the loopy, black cursive that bound us. I knew he had me then. He knew he had me from the start. A 'JonesnInDaHood' collaboration with my bestie, Jonesn.

This was posted today on Ffn, surely this is not what all this fuss is about.
