  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Talking of non canon Twi, some of you may know I am a huge fan of the genre.  This is why I want to introduce you to a rare breed, a male FF author BetterinTexas, who deals only in Twi non Canon (for those of you who are allergic to blonds, he writes alot of Garrick).  He often writes funny, feisty, tough Bella’s, who will kick a*se first and ask questions later.  Just my kind of heroine.  If you want a fun and enjoyable read you could do worse them give his stories a go.  You can find him here: - You are not allowed to view links. How is he with the relationship aspect of things? I read Twific for the love stories, and while I love non-canon, especially Jasper stories, I've held off on this guy because I wasn't sure how a man would do with a romance, the emotion of it all.

I'm doing something now that I never do--stop reading a story in the middle of an epilogue. But seriously, it has been 140 pages since the plot was mostly resolved, and this is way too many pages to hold my interest. It is a shame really because the story was good. If I had read this prior to reading Thief of Hearts, I would probably have said it was really good. Unfortunately, I didn't so I can only compare the two, and Pattyrose's story blows it away. The story was full of action, but with a LaFS romance. (Is that an acronym people use? Love at First Sight?) Those tend to annoy me, but I liked this one--mostly because both B/E have strong characters. I really did enjoy reading this one, I'm just a little down now because the last couple of chapters and epi took FOREVER to read through. A lot of reiteration in an effort to recap, which might be helpful if one were reading it as a WIP, but this is a repost story. I wish the author had changed it up when deciding to repost. Now I'm left feeling a bit 'meh'. *hides away from all those who loved this story*

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

I think I'm going to look for something totally different now, maybe a historical piece...

His stories are definitely different, but I enjoy them a lot.

I think he has really a rather male take on romance, more physical  ;), but pretty realistic, I think. No fairytales, no stumbling in circles around each other...

His Bella is most always very strong, very direct. She doesn't take Sh* from anyone.
In his profile he tells his dislike for Edward in the books and Bella's weakness. He has a teenage (step)daughter and I think he portrays Bella how he would like her to be.

If you want to give him a try, perhaps start with "A fresh start". It is Belly/OC so it doesn't spoil your favorite vamps for you but it's a great story. "Growing up" is another great story, Bella/Peter, but with

:iagree: That was what I felt too, that this story is good, unless you've read TOH. I've not read a lot of historical fic but I enjoyed Twice As Long As Yesterday by Hopeful Wager and and Wrenfield Hall by Wannabe Charlotte. Bringing Bella Home by Counselor is...interesting though Edward doesn't speak and My Wounded Solider also by Counselor starts strong but loses the plot 3/4 of the way in. 1942 by Aniseed is set in war torn France and Bella is an English spy and works with Edward as part of the resistance , OK-ish..

Great suggestions! I've read all but 1942, so I may give that a go, though I'm trying to avoid spies right now! :D  I do like Counselor's writing and have been meaning to read Roar Like a Lion and Finding My Thunder. I loved Twice as Long as Yesterday and mean to read the P2P version by Killian McRae one of these days! So many choices...

If you think that my descriptions of life in rural Australia are a little far-fetched, go and read this:

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Aussie Bella introduces her American friends, Alice and Rose, to a little taste of everything Australia has to offer... including three very delicious Aussie cowboys. Perhaps roos aren't the only things mating in the Outback.

Apart from the fact that I have never met Edward Cullen at a B&S Ball, this fic was like a snapshot of my life! Even my hometown of Brisbane, and where I live now (Rockhampton - Rocky) get a mention!

It's only a 2-shot, so give it a read.

ETD: Apparently this is a hacked version, but it has this, so I'm feeling morally compromised!

But I do have this:
