  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Well I never! :o I keep hearing of such goings on on the tube but I have never come across it, I thought that only happened in Japan?!  :D I feel as if I should apologise for the whole of Transport For London! Dirty bugger.... >:(
I think it wouldn't of been alright if he didn't smell so bad.  :P :D

Bella wanted to fulfill a fantasy - to be groped inside a crowded train. She gets her wish and more, when a sex-starved ex-convict decides she's fair game. ALLHUMAN. Mature but with plot.
I've not read this yet, but it is on my TBR list.

I have read Ride! But this is London and The Pretty, when he's home, no longer rides the tube.. :'(   :D
I definitely wouldn't mind the pretty feeling me up on the tube - even he smelt of BO and piss.  :D

*hides sledgehammer behind wall*

I need some renovations too...  ;)

I read Midnight Desire years ago - it was possibly my first humorous twific. I remember thinking that she did such a great job - the characters are all completely cannon...but AH! I might even re-read it - and then read the existing chapters of the sequel.

Am I the only  one who didn't get into this fic at all? I tried to read Midnight Desire a long time ago...when I first got into fic. I flounced pretty early on. I might have to go back and try it again.

Talking about huge TBR lists. I'm trying to think of a way to be more 'selective(?)' about what I Calibre because really, it is getting way out of hand; almost 2500 fics in just over a year? Every single story that has been rec'd here since we started has been added, if I didn't already have it, to my Calibre. That's nuts! So I've decided not to 'collect' any stories less that 20 Chapters. If it less than 20 I just read them on FFN, love them and release them back to the mother lode! I haven't actually put this into practice yet so I wanted your opinion ladies...Does that sound 'doable', sensible? I feel I have to think up some sort of criteria on what I keep or else I'll never catch-up or get ahead of my TBR list, I'll be dead before I get to finish all these stories. The only way this ends well is if every single Twific author stopped writing fics forever!

I'd really like opinions and suggestions.  :-* I'm off to bed 02.35 GMT. I look forward to suggestions tomorrow, or, I suppose, later today i more accurate   :)

I don't really have a TBR list....I just download any fic that I think looks interesting or is by an author that I really like. When it comes time to choose my next fic I just browse my calibre via tags (Jasper, Human, Highschool, Addict, Abused, College, CEOward, tragedy, etc) based on what I'm in the mood for. I've tried to have a TBR list but it doesn't really work for me because I'm usually in the mood for something specific.

I download it all...read nothing on FFN. I like to have a copy just in case I want to re-read something (which I've done several times already). I prefer to use an ereader program vs the browser...the page flipping and picking back up where I left off are what sealed the deal on that one for me.

I think that as of right now I have about 3200 fics in my library....never too many in my opinion. I know I'll never read all of those but I like having a big selection so that I always will have something good to read and a ton of options. And you never know when something on your favs list will be pulled so I save a copy as soon as I see it's complete.

There must be something wrong and dirty with me because the premise was what had me reading Ride.    8)

Me too :D So clearly I'm a closet PK (Leblo, you are not alone....) But honestly from what I remember the first chapter is the best, didn't it go downhill after that? I read it at the start of my Fic Foray...

Ok so maybe I'm using the wrong terminology. I call my Calibre Library my TBR list because everything on there is to be read, eventually...so I don't have a separate TBR list it's just one big massive Calibre Library...I don't bother uploading if the story doesn't look interesting,  been recc'd by you ladies or aren't things I will eventually get round to read...

I'm sorry in advance if this isn't the right place to ask this question.  I'm still getting used to the site and doing my usual flittering and fluttering thing on this site.  I saw this post under the authors section and clicked on the link because the username looked like a Twilight fan fiction author.  Here's the link You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

My question is - is this the Twilight fic author because that summary looks like something I've read before?  If not, then I must be going crazy because so many books and summaries sound like fics I've read.  And darn it, I can't find a "confused" emoticon as an option but that's how I'm feeling.

What does PK mean?

The first 3 to 4 chapters of Ride were the best.  After that, both Bella and Edward started getting irritating.  It might have been better if it was just straight PWP with little dialogue other than "harder, faster, or both?  where are we NOT ALLOWED next?  here's a pineapple and banana smoothie because I need your spunk to taste better if you want another blow job."  Just saying, you know.

Sorry!  I didn't realize you guys had already talked about it.  I'm still new around here and haven't read any of the previous posts since I just jumped in at the most recent posting there was when I joined this site a few days ago.   I just saw that post about her asking for reviewers and the summary just sounded too familiar.  Well, that answers my questions: it is the Twilight author and I guess she is publishing a fic.  Thanks.

If only that would happen in RL.
Last time I went on a tube, I got felt up by some guy with really bad BO and stunk of piss - we were both holding the same pole (not that type of pole) and he kept "accidentally" falling forward and his hands just happen to keep landing on my boobs even though they are small he found them okay and the hubby just kept laughing.  >:( :D
"Oops! Did my knee accidentally make contact with your groin? It is awfully crowded here "

Yeah, I'm sure you were at least thinking it. :D
My elbow would have definitely been in contact with something of his. Then again, I would have switched places with hubs.  :P

Oilily, I've never had a Sony ereader. So I don't know how much help I'll be. Someone wrote a plugin for creating kindle collections through Calibre.  Unfortunately, it won't work with my Kindle touch. :(

But it is very easy to transfer a bunch of stories at once using Calibre.  I plug it in to my computer, it checks the ereader for files already there, then you highlight what you want to read and hit Send to Device.  It's a good way to load a bunch of stories you know you want to read. Then I have to manually add them to collections - which is what Kindle calls their folders

Now, someone makes a rec you want to read now? Flagfic is great.  I've just found it to be really slow with my wifi Kindle.  It takes forever to get it. On my tablet? Flagfic is perfect.  Download and read.  ;)

My only caveat is that direct downloads means you only have that copy so it's not on your computer if it disappears off ffnet.  If you read once & never read again? Perfect.  If you're like me and reread favorites or parts of favorites? It can be a problem.  :)

So while reading Rob's interview in Harper's Bazaar, I came across this interesting visual:

"I kind of want to get more involved with the industry, I really like it,” he says. “I like the speed of it, you can just move so much quicker. I also like designing clothes. It’s weird, it’s kind of a new thing that I have started doing,” he reveals. As I probe him on his design ambitions, I expect the typical actor-turned-designer response of a T-shirt or baseball cap line and am, I admit, a little taken aback by his actual answer. “It’s really embarrassing,” he blushes taking a deep breath as I lean in closer, “I like drawing couture dresses.” It’s as if he is admitting this out loud for the first time. “It’s bizarre! I started doing it and I was like ‘what is happening?’ Suddenly I had like a sketchbook full of dresses. I like the sort of artistry of it, it’s kid of like costume design,” Robert divulges. So can we expect to see him showcasing his designs at Paris fashion week in the future? “That would be the most random thing ever but I actually really want to do it. I don’t know though, it could be incredibly embarrassing.”

So Rob sketches how he wants clothes to looks on women...

Anyone?? Anyone?? >:D

Thanks for explaining, Ellachanted! I think I'll stick to my system though. Sure - downloading with Calibre might be faster. But I like to have my fics in PDF and ePub and save it three times in different places. OCD much, I know!  :D
But I'm with you here. I like to reread favorites or parts of favorites and I can't stand the thought of losing my fics.
