  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Nope, lol! Remember, I skipped a lot in my headlong dive into non-canon land.

Oh! I've also started following Counselor's new Story Me and Mom Fall in Love With Edward because I love me some Counselor and I have yet to read a story of hers I haven't at least liked if not out and out loved. I'm not sure if this story has been brought up already I've been a bit remiss in keeping up with every post, I'll admit to having skimmed in places...*coughwhenHPandJ&Bficsarediscussedcough*

I started reading this - because I loved the title - and I am hooked! Yep - I'm reading another WIP! And I'm leaving reviews for it!

I haven't read any of Counselor's stories so I didn't really know what to expect, but this one - wow! It's grabbed me by the ... balls (um, that doesn't write as good as it sounds!) and I am so glad that she is updating every day.

It's just amazing - it's a humourous, angsty, romantic mystery!

If I wasn't already reading You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, and betaing 7 fics and validating for the Dior Rob competition and also reading You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login as a WIP, I'd drop everything and read all of Counselor's fics!

I think my WIPhobia is responding well to treatment. I just hope one of these authors doesn't flounce and I suffer a complete relapse!

Astro - Thanks for the link to the article on dearauthor.com about the For the Summer controversy.  I stole it to use in a little commentary elsewhere.

If you found that tough, what about Leah and Charlie?

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login writes a lot of Leah and Edward. I liked the sound of You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login but kept putting it off because it was Leah, but it is one of my all-time fave fics.

And every so often, she adds a little future-take that just melts my cold bitter heart.

On the weekend, I read You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login and loved it too. It's another L/E fic, and she just does it so well!

Leah and Charlie I could do.  I'm canon only when it comes to Edward and Bella.  The rest? I love a nasty Alice that I can hate.  I love a sweet Rose.  You could put Rose with Charlie and it would be fun.  And any of the non-E/B characters can die.  So E/B canon with an HEA.  The rest can do whatever.   :D :D :D

I'm weird, I know.....  :-\

Ella, please give Accidental Atonement a go - honestly, this is my favourite Edward ever and I just love this fic! I don't out and out fangirl flail about many fics (The Pretty, yes, but fics, not usually) but I just love Accidental Atonement!

Please try it!!!

This Dusty/For The Summer drama is just captivating! It looks like the "author" just took chunks of quite a few fanfics and used them in everything. MoBS is another one that she borrowed from, and also the title "For The Summer" is a fic.

She's written a series of NASCAR fics, and I wonder if she "borrowed" them from someone.

Some of the first fanfics I ever read were by You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login and I kinda blame her a little bit for my fanfic addiction. They are all NASCAR based, and considering we don't have NASCAR in Australia, and I detest with a passion car or bike racing, it's a big thing to say I loved her fics. She just disappeared halfway through the sequel to You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login (so I blame her for my WIPhobia too!) so I'm wondering if there's any similarities between these fics.

Shey Stahl might be running scared - her twitter and FB are now private, her blog is "down for maintenance", her books are removed from Amazon. I'd say it won't be long before her GR page disappears too.

I also saw on Twitter that a few authors are now looking for dated pdfs of fics that they have pulled or orphaned so that they have some  proof. I saw that You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login googled a phrase from Just One of the Boys and up popped a One Direction fanfic that is a changed-the-names copy of her fic!

As she explains in her ff.net profile, she orphaned some of her racier fics on AO3 because she is bublishing some YA fics, but on AO3, it only has the date that she published it there. She says that she's PMed the 1D author and given them a chance to remove it.

The advice on twitter is that authors should leave their fics up, because it gives a dated paper trail.

And yay all of us for being hoarders! We might become the justice-loving, crime-fighting heroes in this sad tale!  :D :D :D

I provided someone with a download of a story that was from Flagfic - at the time I downloaded it, Flag was the only one with publish dates on it.  Calibre's ffdl does have the publish date, last update date and pull date.  But technically I could change the metadata I think.  Then again, it is on the title page.  So I have it on a number of fics that have been pulled.  You may be right that we save their butts.

I don't know about an Edward/Leah story.  Can I change it to Bella?

If shes smart at all (which, from her past actions of thieving extremely popular and well known fics that belong to the fandom she has written for in the past, I'm not holding a lot of stock in her smarts) Shey will disappear cuz if not

Whatcha think of With Teeth? I started it before but flounced bc of wrong fic, wrong time back when I still read Canon and never went back to it. I need to though, I've hear that the angst is just delicious

I have loved all of counselors fics - some more than others.  I have friends who only like to read contemporary romance style books and fic, but even they have liked counselor's Roar Like a Lion, Hard Hearted and Love Like A Hurricane.   It just goes to show that a good author can change the mind of a reader with a pre-disposition to not like a certain genre or type of book.
I would rather cuddle then have sex.  If you're good with grammar, you'll get it.

It's long - 549 pages - and I'm only up to page 103/Chapter 7, but I'm really liking it.

It's different - B&E have only just met.

I'll keep you posted.

I've read a couple of crossovers.  In this one, Bella is a witch that went to Hogwarts before coming to live with her Dad.  She gets called back right at the end of the final HP fic.  And she is with Edward - the Cullens are vampires.

It seems magic doesn't really work on vampires.  So far it is interesting.  Not sure if I'll stay or flounce though.  I guess it depends how it goes.....  It had good reviews.

I really enjoyed the Cullens go to Hogwarts.  It is where Edward becomes a student at Hogwarts at the request of Dumbledore - Carlisle and Dumbledore are friendly.    It was good.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
Oh and Cedric Diggory? Looks an awful lot like Edward.  Amazing huh?

There was a sequel were Cedric goes to Forks, but it never completed, so I haven't read it.

Why am I under the impression that Edward drank New Zealand wine? From the Marlborough region?

Damn you Ella - now I have to go and do a word search of FSoG!

Holidays give me too much time for the important things!

I honestly have too much time on my hands when it's school holidays!

There is a FSoG Wine List: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Apparently, they drank some shiraz from the Barossa Valley in Fifty Shades Darker, so some decent Aussie wine, but no mention of New Zealand wine.

There you go - in my mind, they drank some You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - which is very nice wine, if you ever see it anywhere.

I'm just saying, if you are going California, Napa valley is where the most expensive grapes come from.  I have limited experience with Australian and New Zealand wine. Though I do own a bottle of Aussie wine, I haven't tried it yet.  ;)

I just looked at the label info.  It actually may be Mendocino county wine. Much cheaper wine. And being just red or white? Not considered high quality.  Just saying.  :P

I have fond memories of a day trip to the Napa Valley when I was 18. It's very similar to our Barossa Valley, and also Tasmania makes beautiful wine. Actually Tassie is an epicurean's wet dream! Amazing wine, seafood, produce, cheese, beef, lamb - everything!

I don't think I've ever had a bad NZ wine and there are some really fabulous Aussie wines, although I have had some really terrible Australian wine - image drinking vinegar ... then peeing in a bottle ... then drinking that!

What's the Aussie wine that you have?
