This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement. 

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

You should read the last chapter,   if only for the interaction with his mother.  It's pretty funny.

I don't know, but what I means is why did the author go through all that trouble to stop it to being downloaded if it's not that good.

I have two grey striped shorthairs at the moment (they're sisters and they hate each other). The one I had before these two (not my motorboat girl) lived to be about 13 and had kidney failure.  We caught it too late to do anything because she would hide.  My motorboat girl lived to be 18, but she was part siamese.  Our cats are all strictly indoor animals.  The vet told us indoor/outdoor cats have an average life span of 3-5 years because of cars, fights with other animals and disease.  The indoor/outdoor aspect causes allergy problems for me, so I have to keep them inside.

LOL! I've found that plagiarizers do not always care how good a story is before stealing it.  It makes no sense to me.  Half the time they don't even fix it.  I mean if you are going to steal a bad story, at least fix it. 

She does have a lot of reviews.  So someone must have liked it

As a teacher, intellectual property is something that I need to be always aware of. Essentially, if they were her ideas and someone else published them without her permission, they have stolen them.

The lines become blurred because she has essentially done the same thing to SMeyer. I do applaud SMeyer for not making a big deal about FSoG. I wonder how many more copies of Twilight were sold because of 50?

I would be pissed if someone made money from my ideas that they had stolen from me, but maybe it's also a way to get a little more attention for her writing?

Yeah, that one wouldn't have happened.  I had a grey striped shorthair that lived around 18 years.  She was really annoying. 

But when I was living in the last place? They all seemed to die from liver or kidney issues at around 6 to 8 years old.  I don't know if it was because they were outdoor cats or not.  But since we keep them indoors? They seem to be living longer.  I have one who is around 12 now. He's the one that throws up all the time. And I had him checked out.  They think he eats too fast because there was nothing else wrong with him.

My reading streak of good fics finally broke. Just finished jess2002's my world your world plus the sequel our world, and I do not recommend. The idea of the story was good, but poorly executed. I almost flounced a few chapters in, but since I can't flounce, I kept reading. My World, Your World ends abruptly with a resolution that the even the author states could never happen (but since its fiction this is what she's doing), so I was thankful for the sequel as it acts like an extended epilogue. With the sequel, it ends much better, but still completely unrealistic for an Amish family. [/spoiler]The SPaGs are horrible. Here are some examples.

There are so many cat owners in this fandom. It's weird.

In real life I only have one friend that owns a cat. The rest owns dogs.

I don't not like cats, but I am ridiculously allergic to them.

My friend has a breed of cat that is meant to be hypoallergenic - I can't remember what sort, but it's not one of those Mr Bigglesworth things -



These do have hair. She bred them for a while and they were the cutest kittens.

I am not privy to the details of her stolen story, but can she not do something about that, legally? Especially since someone else made money from her work.
I remember when SM wrote Epov of Twilight and somehow some chapters were released on the Internet. Remember what she did? Yeah, talk about losing money.

I don't know the details, but fanfiction NEVER can be copyrighted by the author, because the characters and the original plot belong to the original author. So Fanficwriters mustn't make money from fanfics, because they don't own them, no matter how original their plot is and you can't steal from a person something they never owned. So, even if someone plagiarized her story, she has technically no say, because she didn't own her story anyway. I don't know about that plagiarizing and publishing her story as OF...

I think that is something that could change now with that new amazon platform.

And I think we don't realize how much the Twilight fandom has changed the fanfiction "rules".

For a "real" fanfic you use the characters and the setting the author provided and play with them. You try to stay in character, you stay true to the pairings, location etc.

When you read older discussions on fanficforums you read from all those fanfic purists how sick they are of all those AH writers 

So, when was the last time you've read a real Twilight fanfiction? 

The Twilight characters are so carefully designed it sets every Spice Girls or boyband manager to shame. You have the Posh Vamp, the Sporty Vamp, Emo Vamp etc lol
You have characters for everyone! AND you are not limited to special family bounds or names, because even in the original book it was a given that the "Cullens" change everything up with each move (who's a sibling to whom, whose last name to use...)

So, it is so easy to take this huge set of characters and write them in your own story.

Every Twilight fanfic that is AH? Technically no "Real" fanfic, so that's where the problems start. A lot of fanfics, especially those AH ones could stand alone as OF, there is nothing left of Twilight but the names of the characters and their traits (sometimes). BUT, those stories wouldn't be as good received, not as much reviews, not as much support from readers, because we just love our Edwards and Bellas and put up with crappy storys just so we can read about another Edward getting his Bella and making lots of greeneyed babies.

So, the moral of my ramblings?

I think fanfiction starts to be a huge misty zone where nobody can be sure of the rules anymore, especially in this fanfic...

But Nikky has no right atm to refuse downloading or copyrighting her stories.

I'm sure that will change.
