Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

It does look that way.  But I can't find anything that supports it.

I meant to ask you guys about this a week or so ago, but then the site went down, and then it came up, but I could only access it from my tablet, which is a PitA to type out long posts on, and then I forgot.

Basically, after Meyer released her gender switched Twilight, a bunch of us on GR got to talking about how we'd read the heck out of a fic where the "Bella" character were male, and Edward remained male, too. Slashy goodness. Same basic story, only adjusted as needed to make Bella a dude. I looked around, and only found THREE (thats it?) that fit, and they weren't very well written.

So I was wondering if anyone else here might know of anything like this? Still Vampire Edward, human "Bella" only male, and however that type of story might evolve.

Gonna post this on the non-canon thread too, hopefully SOMEONE will have something for me.

The ones I've found myself are:

.“You know ease dropping is frowned upon in this household”

That, from a NY Times best selling author. And, it's not the only error, the entire book is riddled with spag....that was just the funniest.

What book?

It is sad that years ago we were surprised to find such errors in a book, now it is as though no one proofreads anything anymore.  :'(

I think they don't learn grammar anymore in school.  Or spelling.  They let the computer do it, but the computers aren't perfect.  And it was spelled correctly, so spell check won't help.

It is sad.  Especially if it is not self published :-\

Between spell check, auto correct, text speak, and the lack of teaching, the written language for us is doomed.

That is as bad as what I read in a newspaper today, the journalist used shutter instead of shudder (I swear that bloody mistake gets everywhere).

I think shutter is my biggest pet peeve. And I swear I read one story where they needed to close the "shudders" before the storm hit.  Yeah.  Though maybe it describes the action of the shutters in the storm?

I once read that part of spelling memory comes from seeing the word spelled correctly while reading. There was the English Professor who commented that after reading papers for a few years he needed to take a year off and read real books or he would forget how to spell because his students wrote so badly.

Ah, well. Those nuns were good for something when I was a kid, I guess.  :D :D

I think I spell well because I grew up reading. Self pubbed books are ruining that for today's youth. I'm really hoping most of the self pubbed, unedited junk is staying in the grown up books.

I had to stop reading Kristen Ashley, the day I found myself questioning whether past or passed was right for the context I was trying to use it in.

It is NOW, she has a publisher for her stuff, but her early stuff was all self pubbed.

Since I live in an international city where I often hear English from non-native speakers and often speak 3 different languages on a given day, I have found my English is suffering, I say things with the grammar of another language and that is not good for teaching my kids how to speak proper English - and then you add in the British vs American spellings.

  • Life is all about balance.
I am currently reading As Children After Play (by judo_lin on TWCS and Cris on FFnet). Vampire Edward, Human Bella, and evil Charlie. I have to say that so far I am really liking this one. I am on chapter 30 out of 49.

I actually really liked that one.  Really nasty Charlie though.  Very well written though.

I read something recently with kids, but I'm totally blanking on it,

okay, looking at my Kindle - Miss Conception and Mis(ter) Communication by Samekraemer - I guess it has been pulled, but Bella is having a baby for her stepsister Rosalie but Edward thinks it's something else.

Now my favorite one with kids is The Real Life of EA Masen - You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Edward Cullen - to most, he's a boring book editor but he's really an elusive romance novelist with an erotic flair. When he's not writing NOT ALLOWED, I mean romance, he's just a guy who's married to his high school sweetheart and father of three teens. This funny, romantic, sweet Daddyward will make you laugh and cry. (Bonus: A Jake you'll love, too)
Twilight - Rated: M - English - Romance/Humor - Chapters: 40 - Words: 209,495 - Reviews: 4005 - Favs: 2,380 - Follows: 1,350 - Updated: Oct 23, 2012 - Published: Apr 24, 2012 - Bella, Edward - Complete

I know i read one with a little kid recently, but I think it wasn't on my Kindle, so I don't know what it was.
