Thread #6 - We are crazy talkers here! Join in the fun!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

I could quote everyone that said the same thing but I wont,  I am in the same boat.   ^-^

Honestly, there are genres or storylines that just don't interest me, hence I avoid those stories all together.  On the plus side, it makes my reading list much shorter.
One of the rare few....

I don't know, Anchalee, I know you like non-canon, you might want to try her.  Even when she's canon, she's somehow...not.  I can think of one Bella/Paul (I think) story.  It's called Blue Jeans and Bandaids.  It's short, so you can give it a try and see what you think.  Then you'll be able to say you've read yellowglue.

That makes 3 of us in a row who haven't read Yellowglue.  I was feeling somewhat out of the loop and deprived because I hadn't but now - maybe we ought to start a support group for those of us who haven't read her?

Me either. I got into non-canon too quickly, I  missed a lot of the "major" twific writers.

I missed a lot of the major twific writers too but mainly because by the time I started reading fanfic, fics like The Office had already been pulled, plus I was reading a lot of fics as it was and missed all the ones I probably would have enjoyed - I was gobbling up fics as fast as I could read but on the other hand, writers were pulling before I had a chance to get to the fics.

Not to change the subject (I haven't read YellowGlue either), but someone just asked to join our PTS anonymous group on FB that I don't know.  It's not even someone I've seen around in the Twilight FB groups.

So if it is anyone from here, let me know or PM me and I will add you.  Otherwise I will ignore it.

I'm surprised so many of you haven't read YG!  SHe is so good.  :)

I finished Art After 5 and liked it...   it was a little boring in the middle, but I thought it wrapped up really nicely!   I didn't have any problem with the age difference.   He was no longer in high school...

I wouldn't recommend YellowGlue to be honest. I said it before: for me YellowGlue is more a poet than a novelist. Totally great writing, but hard to digest. Maybe it's my not being native English speaker though. But if I imagine reading YellowGlue in the very beginning...I think I would have stepped away from fanfiction.
Same goes for goldenmeadow...excellent and poetic writing...beautiful words, but maybe for later when someone is hooked anyway.  >:D

I read the whole Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout lately and absolutely loved it! Any fans here? I'm looking forward to August when the next book comes out! At first, I needed to get a little used to read about aliens, because I had no idea what those books were about, but I was hooked very fast.

You're right...  her writing is definitely poetic!  And I didn't end up recommending that one to my new-to-ff friend because I was afraid it would be too much.   After she reads some of the real winners like WWF and FaN maybe I'll suggest YG.    I need to go check out this goldenmeadow you're talking about, never heard of her before.

I have read all the Lux books and really really enjoy the series...   the cliffhangers kill me though!   Did you read the spinoff book called Obsession?  It was pretty good too.  Can't wait til the next book in the Lux series comes out.  Will it be the final book?

It's almost impossible to reproduce what YG does, and she hasn't written that many full length fics....As I said if you can stomach the subject matter Light and Wine has her stamped all over it. But knowing you liked Jellicoe Road then maybe The Mirror by Adorablecullen and Sleepers, Awake by Feisty Y. Beden. In Places No One Will Find by carrie.wilson be warned this is not HEA in the traditional sense
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
(for which this poor author got flamed off of FFN, which just pisses me off) but, you know me, don't give a  :poo: about HEA and it's really well written. Mark of Beauty by danieller.one.two.three I'm not a huge vampward fan but this is one of my favourite next to AWTFA, it's not as well written as AWTFA, but I like this story's concept. Spirit to Flesh by Littlewings2, A Quiet Fire by Magnolia822. Did you read Youth Without Age by Goldenmeadow? So well written I can't stand it! I know I recc'd it but I can't remember if you read it already or not. I enjoyed all of these; PM me if you need me to break them down further.  :-*
Thanks for all the recommendations!! These are all new to me...   I think I might dive head first into Youth Without Age!    That is if I don't get distracted by something else while getting this one on my kindle.

ETA: Ok, I got distracted...  while I was in the process of getting that one on my kindle I got a notice from the library that Me Before You by Jojo Moyes (kindle version) is waiting for me!   Looks like I'll be reading that one first. :)

Yes, the cliffhangers are evil! I love those though. Gives me the drive to read the next book. I read Obsession actually at first, because I marked it incidentally as first book in the series. I liked it, but it really should be read after the first book.
The next book as the last as far as I know.

Cassandra Clare finished The Mortal Instruments series. I grabbed the book (City of Heavenly Fire), but I have yet to read it.

Is the FB group a secret group? Or a closed group?

I think it's only closed Oilily. Maybe it should be secret?  We don't use it much. I just don't want to be spammed. Or have weird drama. ;)

I think secret would be good to avoid requests from people who are not here. Otherwise FB suggests the group for people who aren't here but searched for something related on FB or who are in groups with similar names. Do you know what I mean?

As FB is the Devil's playground (and full of the weird drama) I'd make it secret....the only way to know about it is if you're here, that way you weed out the crazies.

I read it and thought it worth the bother..and there are a couple of outtakes as well if I remember right?

I don't know this Lux series you mentioned....would you recommend it to me? Knowing my.....tastes?  But if it's not dine then, forget it I'll wait; I've enough going on with the never ending saga that's InDeath.

Am currently on chapter 4 of Colleen Hoover's Maybe Somebody. absolutely loving it! :) She is one of my fave authors. nothing was grabbing my attention so i chose to read her book. I tend to postpone reading some books of my favorite authors, saving it for days like these when nothing on my library appeals to me. Her stories are a bit angsty hence i don't immediately start reading her work when it comes out. But the way she writes really gets to me, makes me feel... She's brilliant IMO!  :)

Note: she has a good mix of humor and angst for me. Reading alone at a restaurant after finishing my solo meal waiting for traffic to subside, am trying to supress my laugh bec the portion am reading is sooo funny.

I really wish authors wouldn't class fics as Angst when it's just drama.  >:( >:(
Just finished reading You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login by chynnadoll36. It was pretty good, but it could of done with being shorter.
There was just drama for the sake of drama and the author kept saying chapters were going to be real angsty but that wasn't the case.  :'( :'(

I'm off to read some Tijan cos at least she can write angst and that's what I need at the moment.  :P :P
