The longer I refrain from reading fanfiction, the easier it is to roll my eyes at whatever drama the author throws in for the sake of gripping at the readers heartstrings. I think the last story I read that really gave my heart a twinge was TheFicChick's, Objects in Mirror are Closer Than They Appear. I think it started off well, but by the end of the story I was so done with both Bella and Edward. I've never been a fan of WIP stories, so I wouldn't know about this, but is it a recent thing where a lot of the stories I see released are shorter and closer to drabble format? I'm still amazed I was able to read an Edward/Rosalie story and laugh at most of the plot. A month ago I probably wouldn't have touched it. But that Edward was really sappy and gross, and I don't ever read Rosalie stories so I didn't have much of an opinion on her to begin with. I think that I read so many stories and it got to the point where they all just seemed to fade into the next story, and Edward and Bella might be a little different, but the plot mostly remains the same.
I find very few writers do drabble well. It doesn't work with yhe flow of most stories. But every once in a while one works. The best update daily. I think they are pre written so the flow is worked out. But that's my opinion. It got really popular a couple years ago when the did drabble wars. I tended to like the funny ones best, but there were a couple angsty ones that actually worked.
Now, as for a child unwilling to accept Edward into his/her life immediately? Does such a fic exist? This might be like the quest for the holy grail or Atlantis. I think women and children both fall immediately at his feet, wanting nothing more than his attention and affection. I think the best I can do is something like Grand or the Quiet Storm series, where some of the kids give him trouble as they enter their teenage years. And I can't exactly rec the Quiet Storm series since I only read the first story and hated it.
Do you have any favorites?
I am being supportive! I''m keeping it real...plus, now you want to prove me wrong! Right?I also have to admit to frequently wanting to slap Bliss and Dusty around...actually, there are a lot of fics where I want to slap Edward, Bella and/or the author.
Noted. Morbidly curious to see this, too.
I too am intrigued by E&B's bad seed.
Yeah I'm with Loopy, I no longer 'cry' as such, it mainly a heart clutch kind of feeling....that's when you know you've graduated to the capital H in Angsthoor Oh! Wait! I shed a tear while reading Divided in Death, so maybe there are times when even my Hoor is a hoor
You are NEVER going to make it until October. And Loopy, they expanded scenes?! Like that sucker wasn't long enough already?
I've never actually cried at an angsty fic, but I have wanted to punch a wall a few times.
Yeah, but that goes hand in hand with the heart clench.....The best ones makes you want to punch the protagonist too.
Here's where we differ. If it gets too angsy, I want the character to climb into the bath hugging a plugged in toaster. Probably why I don't read angst.
I hate drabble. They feel like a waste of time and energy; 60,0000,00000 chapters to cover one day and half a thought? No.
Ditto... And it's not like you go through all the drama for the expectedSorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents. For the record, AH's, IMO, don't use tissues...they're probably eating bonbons sipping wine wondering what the fuss is about.....lol.Well, off to start my long w/e....catching up on all my tv shows that I've been missing. I'll only take a break if Syl Day releases the next xfire book....yeah, like that's gonna happen anytime soon.
I had to really think about the last angst fic that made me cry and the only one I can remember that actually made me ugly cry was Nobody's Little Girl by HelloElla and due to it being able to reduce me to tears, it made its way into my top 10. It's not that expanded - just a few extra sentences here and there. It's about 330+ pages in epub format, so it's definitley been edited as Dusty was 966 pages (epub) when it was complete. I've gotta agree with Mrs Fassy - the fic I just finished I wanted to punch the ever-loving shit out of Bella as I know that peeps do a lot of things to cope with grief but the situation she originally put herself in wasn't necessary and then later she puts herself into another situation for reasons that barely made sense. Lol, I totally understand that.
That just how I'd imagine Loopy Girl Ms Day better get her blinking finger out! Haven't we got another book to go after this one? Shhh!t. You are not allowed to view links. Register or LoginHmmm? I've not read that one...I'll bump it up my TBR.....now, if I could only remember where I put those bonbons....You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login....
I just saw a book (wow) Ruthless People by J.J McAvoy...is that a published fic? I don't remember a thing about it.....anyone?
It was Ruthless People by ruthlesslyyours aka JAnnMcCole. It's a mob fic. I skimmed a few chapters when everyone was asking for it when she originally pulled the story. I think the basic premise is that both Edward and Bella are capos and equally ruthless, fighting each other for supremacy. In the couple of chapters I skimmed, I didn't like either one of them or them together, so I haven't read it. It's on PTS, as are the sequels. Look in the J post of the Index.
More people need to learn about always backing up their stuff! I have my ebooks saved on my laptop and several different clouds, just to be safe.
Surprises By: EmziBob Jessica comes home after a 3 year trip expecting Edward to be waiting to marry her, but she is in for quite the surprise.Rated: Fiction T - English - Humor - Bella, Edward - Chapters: 5 - Words: 6,069 - Reviews: 115 - Favs: 143 - Follows: 145 - Updated: May 13, 2013 - Published: Jun 23, 2012 - id: 8247349So, this was a story search on the 152 thread and I thought it sounded like a pretty good story, so I PM'd the author and below are her reponses. I will be posting again but it won't be anytime soon I'm afraid It hasn't been updated in over a year because I did have the entire story written on an old laptop which was stolen.. I'm having to re-write it and have had a lot of trouble getting back into the flow of it seeing as I wrote the entire story in 3 days the first time around. Things just don't seem to be going back in the right order and I am constantly going back and adding bits to older chapters that I had forgotten until writing the next one All I can say at the moment is it has not been abandoned or forgotten.Thanks,Emz.By all means, pass the world along! lol I've had a few messages about this story but I am loathe to do an authors note about it. I know how disappointing it is getting a story update only to find out it's an authors note lol The only other thing I will say at this time is there will be no more updates until it is complete so once I am done there will be 2 chapters a week uploaded until it's finished..... no more long assed waits once it gets going again :p
Matron - you are so right - people do need to learn to backup their stuff. A member on InDeath.net a couple of months ago lost/accidently deleted? all her fanfics that were up in our fanfic Forum. She was sure either AJ or the moderators had deleted them. It was definitely not one of us. She evidently did not have them backed up elsewhere and was insisting that AJ go in and retrieve (by some method - I'm not a geek so I have no clue)them - She would have had to do it chapter by chapter which was time consuming. Considering all the fics the girl had up (at least 20) it was a little presumptious of her to demand we do it. She was told that it was not possible considering the time involved in attempting it. It might have been different if it had only been 1 or 2. She hasn't been back - we're assuming she's left for good in a huff. We've had two different members inquire in the past week what happened to the fics - basically we don't know - they disappeared. Hard lesson.
