It took a while for me to get into the first book, I'd say the whole of Outlander part 1 I was thinking 'what the hell is all the fuss about?!' And if, like you, I had a flounce gene I'd have bounced; but this is definitely one of times when I can say wholehearted 'Thank you God!' for that I have that deficiency  :D
So, do you think Outlander is as good as The Bronze Horseman?   If you say yes, it's going to hurt!  hehe

Who knew there was a whole Outlander forum...   makes me want to go see if I can find a TBH forum!

Finished For the Summer by camoozle  :)

It was cute! I thought a few times "this is never going to end!" with all the back and forth, but I still enjoyed it  :) :) :) :)
I thought that a few times too about FTS but I still really liked it.    Maybe it was just a hair too long?   I don't know, I guess it made the end seem even more special.

Ummm.. yes... me too!!! I loved these stories, and was excited to see them come to life!!! I was extremely disappointed, they ruined it!! ARGH  >:( >:( >:(
The Eragon books were one of the first things I read after Harry Potter turned me into a bibliophile.  Like you I was so excited about these movies but they were just horrible.   Must have been extremely low budget.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!! I felt the same way.. I wanted so badly to love it!!  I would have enjoyed a needle in my eye more than one more page!  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
**high five** to you for making it 3/4 the way through!! I just... kind of want to burn it.. *ahahahahaa...)
I worship JK Rowling and it's only because of my love for her that I suffered the 3/4.  I just kept thinking something was going to happen.  Something just HAD to happen.  From what I read about it nothing ever did happen.   Someone told me that this book was less about stuff happening and more of a character study and I guess I just couldn't get into it.

I watched The Mortal Instruments but have no plans to read the series. It was ok, nothing great but will likely watch the sequels if only to bond with my daughter who has read all the books.
I thought the first three TMI books were really good, but I was highly disappointed with the fourth.  Made me wonder if it was meant to just be a trilogy but the popularity brought on more books?

...  ohmygee.    I'm so sad.   How could he do that to her?     KiyaRaven is amazing with how much emotion she can put into her writing and the way she's doing this back and forth timeline thing.

I've had this crazy obsession with books since I was in elementary school... That and once they are in my hands, they will always be in my hands! The boxes of books got a little crazy, and the hubby suggested I donate... Yeah, he'll never live that one down! I miss them  >:( :( :'(

I really, really hate when stories are told in past and present, but Diva Diaries managed to make it enjoyable with the love/hate relationship between Bella and Edward, it probably helped that she had it up in the summary that they were a couple with a past~ so you just needed to keep reading to figure out why they fell apart.

I can't remember what Edward's deal was, but I was expecting a different story based off of the summary. I will definitely be reading when she releases them next year.

Savich and Sherlock are FBI agents in Catherine Coulter's mystery series.

I tried reading Outlander during my "can't read anything but Twifics" stage. So it is not surprising I flounced. That and I kind of burned out on period pieces a long time ago. Every one gets compared to Kathleen Woodiweiss and is found lacking.  Sigh.... I think I still have a crush on Ruark.... (Shanna)   :D :D :D :D ;)

I have something to tell you. And, I know its going to hurt and I really wish I could turn back the clock and for it to never have happened! But you have to admit....things have been really strained between us and.....it feels like we're drifting apart. And I know, I know it's probably not you, it's all me. I just hope...well, I just really hope you can forgive me. Because of course I think you're sexy and intelligent and all round amazing....but sometimes it's just, I don't know, things just happen......I'm so sorry.....I cheated on you with the Outlander forum  :( :'(

Who??  :o

Savich and Sherlock are a husband and wife FBI team in the FBI Thriller series of Catherine Coulter. Love those 2! As much as i would like to talk about them in another forum, i will remain faithful to our group...mainly because i don't have the time and energy to go to another forum and i am scared to encounter whack jobs there. they do solve heinous crimes, not sure i'd want to go to a forum where there are crime fanatics. hopefully none of them want to act out/try the crimes ???  8). At least here, the only time anyone has been detained ar jailed is due to public s e x, now that's my kind of crime. I'm a lover, not a fighter  ;D :D

When will Woodiwiss come out with a new book? It feels like it's been so long! Shanna and The Wolf and the Dove are the first 2 historical romances i ever read when i was in junior high. She got me hooked on historical romances. My other go-to authors for historicals are Judith McNaught, Julie Garwood, Julia Quinn, Stephanie Laurens, Johanna Lindsey and Catherine Coulter.  :)

I always get shamrocks and shenanigans mixed up with a story I started reading about some Irish ring and bella having a crush on her boss, Edward. I can't remember the name, anyway, I never finished shamrocks and shenanigans

The story that you are describing sounds like it could be Breakaway Bella by Hoodfabulous.

Unfortunately, she passed away a number of years ago.  So, no more books from her.  :'(

I read Shanna first, so I think that is why it's my favorite. I also love The Flame and the Flower. And their son's story. The Elusive something or another. Then I read Rosemary Rogers and now I'm blanking on the other authors.

It is a really close call, I think.....but, I think TBH squeaks in by a hair. If Outlander has just ended with the first three books it might have been a tie.  I'll tally-up again once the Outlander series is finished.

Oh Lordie! I can't take any more recc's.... *runs off to check author on Goodread*  :P

To be totally honest I don't like historical romances, all that bodice ripping? Not my thing. What makes Outlander work, for me anyway, is that element of time travel, the heroine is from 20th century with a modern woman's sensibilities. The juxtaposition of the modern woman with the 18th century man keeps it from sinking into cliché.

Ok, how do you stop reading fanfiction long enough to read a published story? I have the epub of Deborah Harkness' A Discovery of Witches. it is the first in her All Souls Trilogy and I can't seem to stop with the fanfiction long enough to read it.

I also seem to recall someone saying that the fanfiction downloader for Calibre was updating if a story was complete or not. Well, I went to the custom columns tab under the configuration and unchecked new only from Status. Now it works.

Um, don't think I can help you there. It took me 3.5 years to read something other than Twifics.

The thing that annoys me about the complete/not complete thing? If the author forgets to change the status?  It will always show as incomplete.  >:( >:( >:(

But yeah, you have to let certain things update every time. Like chapters. ;)

Its been a couple years of only twifics for me, and I just read my first real book since my husband is always making fun of me for reading about sparkling vampires, no matter how often I tell him they are mostly humans that don't sparkle.  For me I just hit a lull in fics and had just added the real book to my reader and it seemed interesting (Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins - supernatural teen books, kept me reading but not super amazing)

I am trying, but it is soooo hard. I have gotten as far as adding the epub to my phone for me to read it. Just haven't cracked it yet. I have decided to sell crochet work on the internet for extra cash, so my reading might end up taking a bit of a back seat. I swear that this has been moved way up the TBR list. Thanks, it is nice to hear from someone that has read it and really liked it.

What I find is if I've had a run of bad fics I'll stump off in a grot and open a book. Un/fortunately, if the book is part of a series then my return to fics is delayed until I get to the end of it. After catching up with all  the In Death books I read 4 (count em; FOUR!) bad fics in a row, I couldn't get out of the Dom fast enough! I ran out screaming with my hair on fire  :D I think if I didn't enjoy 'speaking' to you ladies so much I'd probably never read another fic again, it's on here that someone will mention a fic and I'll think 'Oh! That's in my library' and I'll go and investigate and start reading fics again, until my next bad experience, and the process starts all over again.

Discovery of Witches is well worth breaking your fic addiction with, its a really good book. I've the rest of the series (it hadn't been completed when I first read Witches) waiting for me once I finish Outlander.
