This same person has also convinced me to read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, The Kite Runner and The Handmaid's Tale sometime soon.

The Handmaid's Tale is fabulous!  It will haunt you.  The others are okay, but I'd read The Handmaid's Tale again.  The others?  Not so much.

Limom - just read Robb for heaven's sake.  You won't regret it.   Speaking of which - Demaris - been reading the spoilers for the new book Festive In Death - everyone is mostly raving about it.  I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive from Doubleday.

I've got it but I'm not going back to JD for a while, maybe this time next year......

Well, I'm really looking forward to reading If I Stay... and I told my friend that she'd better get with the program and read Where She Went!      Oh and I agree about Melina Marchetta!  Jellicoe Road was a really good read...  she has another that I've been wanting to read too but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Now I need to go research where FAP & PJ fall in her fanfic timeline!  I can't imagine the others being better than Puddle Jumping... it was REALLY good.

Has she not? I'm always confused when I hear someone hasn't read the sequel of a story....I have to read them back to back, if they're available. If she liked Stay then she'll flove Went.....Honestly it taking everything just to not re-read it now!

I've been distracted from reading tonight by Breaking Dawn prt1. I could have sworn I'd seen this film before but I'm sitting there thinking ??? I must have slept through the whole first half of that film before, for instance, I couldn't remember there being speeches at the wedding?  But I have figured out what's wrong with that film now. Zero chemistry between Bella and Edward; RP and KS are fine in scenes with anyone else but stick them together and nada, they are so awkward, its uncomfortable to watch.  If RP and KS were still getting it on by this stage of the franchise I'll.....stop being a Hoor and become a Fluffy!

I'm gonna have to read some of these books you guys keep recommending. Unfortunately funds for books are slim right now. I'm moving into an apartment at the end of the month so all extra funds are going to furniture and the like.

If you're moving you're probably short on time, but the public library is a beautiful thing if you have one where you are.

I work just a few blocks from the library most of the time. However I work nights 12 hr shifts on a 2 week rotating schedule and every rotation I spend 6 weeks at other hospitals. It's hard enough doing anything much less keeping up with when books are due.

My friend is a bit in the dark ages...    she still goes to the library and gets a real book.   Well, that or someone gives her a book and she reads it.   So, she didn't have the second one available to her when she finished the first one.   I'm like you though, I get the shakes if I can't start the next book immediately.      So, Where She Went is even better than the first book? Wow.    :o

Oh thanks for that! I'll move THT up my list then.  I've heard it's tough to read in parts so I've been putting it off.    This book made the #1 spot on a couple of my friends favorite lists.

I was going to suggest the same thing!  Casciany, do you have a kindle or other type of e-reader?  If so, your public library most likely has e-books you can borrow.   I borrow kindle books from my library all the time without having to go in.  (though I do go on a regular basis! We heart libraries!)

Nope, haven't read TSTS yet. Wasn't that angsty? You know am a fluff, romance type of gal  :D

Yes, Beautiful Oblivion is about Trenton, 1 of the Maddox brothers. You actually don't need to read book 2, Walking Disaster, as that is the POV of Travis, plus a few extras, of BD.

BO actually takes place a little before Travis and Abby meets and extends a few days after the "big catastrophe". I enjoyed that series.

Am now reading Happenstance Part 2, still by Jamie McGuire. Gave the first one 5 stars. These are very short, less than 300 epub pages. This kind of angst i can handle.  :)

Talkng of second books that are POVs of the male character, Breakable by Tammara Webber was very good. A lot of stuff was added to explain what happened to Lucas. Definitely brought a lot more to their story. Absolutely rec it!  :)
Gosh, I think TSTS was like the most romantic thing I've ever read...  I mean off the charts!    When I think back about it I don't think "angst" but then I've become slightly numbed to it so it might have been there and just didn't stick with me like the romantic part?     My only caution is that, as others have said, the way it's written is different than most things we read...  YG's writting is beautiful and poetic and you just really need to experience it to get what I'm saying! :)

Thanks for mentioning the Tammara Webber book!  I read Easy way back when and I loved it...    Glad to hear that we get more info on Lucas!

Hey, if she promised her mom, she has to finish it. I'm pretty sure that there is some rule out there about breaking promises made to mom...right?

Speaking of libraries, I finally got my copy of A Discovery of Witches, since a few of you seemed to like it and I've completely forgotten how small some of the print can be with REAL BOOKS. I feel like I'm straining my eyes just squinting at the tiny ass text. I've grown so spoiled with my tablet and the apps I can use to make text bigger and dim the lighting.

I've always wondered how the increase of technology is going to affect eye sight in the future. At the moment I've got 20/10 vision and have never worn glasses, but how quickly will vision be affected when everyone is basically staring at a giant light for hours at a time. That goes for computers as well.

Mine has definitely got worse. But it could be age in my case. They say your vision startss to go after age 40. :(

I use to spend half my life in a library when I was growing up. Now I just don't have the time...but I actively campaigned to keep my local one open a couple of years ago as I think they're crucial a local community.
