I just got an email from Ruthlessly Yours' blog on wordpress."Hey Guys!So a lot of you....and I mean a lot of you have been there to see me through the ups and downs. Having people like in my life is truly amazing. No seriously I get all my courage from people like you all. Many of you remember the issues I had last year on a self published book called Adela Arthur and the Creator's Clock. A few reviewers comment saying I ripped off HP and that I had sock puppets (fake accounts) giving me five star reviews. The fake accounts things was cleared up "I think" and all that was left up was the book. I made it free and just labeled it inspired by HP and left it alone.I hoped to move on and just let it go. I knew once Ruthless People was published I would get some one stars for it being p2p. I also knew I would get some harsh reviews. I promised myself I would never get boxed into the same position I was in last year. In fact I tried to take the negative and work it towards the positive of this book. The moment they found me and tried to kick up old rocks to throw, I would get off goodreads. That time has come and so I'm getting off now. I don't want to fight with anyone. I don't want to be labeled anything I'm not and I sure don't want people commenting for me.People have the right to say whatever they want about me...I chose not to read it or be hurt by it.Yes, I wrote Ruthless People as a fan fiction. No, I don't think that makes me unethical, lazy or a horrible author.Yes, I still write fan fiction. I'm a twihard and that is my right. Plus I love the community. No, I will not pull to publish anymore fanfics. I don't think I will publish again after the Ruthless People series is done.Yes, I am kind of sensitive. (So sue me.) Words are important to me, so when they hurt me, they hurt in a big way.Lastly if you want to get in touch with me please use twitter or Facebook. Messaging me on goodreads is just to much of a temptation lol.Again thank you so much for your love and support. It means the world to me...It really does.Ruthless YoursJJ McAvoy"I don't understand what the fuck is wrong with people. I really don't get it. There is how many NOT ALLOWED stories, books, series, what the fuck ever on the internet, in stores, etc. There is something out there for everyone, something out there written about any damn thing, why the fuck do people have to be so NOT ALLOWED hateful. If you don't like somebody's writing, that's all fine and NOT ALLOWED dandy but there is no god damned reason to ruin it for the rest of us. Now, because people couldn't keep their NOT ALLOWED mouths shut, everybody who does enjoy her writing, whether it is p2p or not, is being punished. I don't blame her. She has every right to say fuck it all and walk aw*shrug*ay, or take a few steps back or whatever. But there is no cause for bullying someone over a NOT ALLOWED story. You don't like it? Fine. Don't read it. But leave it there for those that do want to read it. Assholes.
I don't mind HS fics, but I couldn't get into High Anxiety. All they seemed to do is sit around, get high, and hint about past problems that seemed kind of overblown. At least Bella's was to me from what I could tell. I didn't stick around long enough to find out Edward's issues. It really just didn't grab me and I have no urge to go back and finish it. I did love Wide Awake. Partially for the cookie named chapters. But also because of the way they both had actual issues from their pasts that they were dealing with - and not by getting high. And they were able to help each other out. There was a bit of a New Moon thing near the end that, from an adult viewpoint, was understandable. So it didn't p*ss me off like most "New Moon" moments do. To me, it was more dramatic rather than angsty. Whereas High Anxiety was trying too hard to be angsty when it was just a drama. And I know some people loved High Anxiety. Maybe if I read more than 50 pages of it? Probably not. To me, a great HS fic is Tropic of Virgo, Hit by Destiny, or Loner. Though Tropic of Virgo is the best if you don't like angst. The other two are a bit on the angsty side. All have HEA's for B & E.You are not allowed to view links. Were people blasting her personally or blasting her story/writing? There's a difference. On a book review site one is acceptable, the other isn't. I've yet to see a P2P author not get blasted by someone for publishing fan fiction, some people just don't like the idea of fan fiction becoming anything else...Personally all I care about is can the person write? Yes. All good. No. Might want to find something else to do with your time, unlike in Fandom, P2Ps ain't free! Not read Ruthless so I can't comment.
I love Sexy Silk. I also like Emotional Warfare by Completerandomness, but I wouldn't say it was the best writing. I though she pulled it to fix it, but when she re-posted it, it was still a mess as far as SPaG errors. Really cute story though. Collegeward/Geekward. Really sweet and kind of innocent. I just wanted to give you fair warning. While Wide Awake is a great story, IMO it does not have the HEA you describe you are looking for. The best way to read it is to NOT read the epilogue. The author isn't named Angstgoddess for nothing. lolMy go-to author for guaranteed HEA (and those are her words) is always pattyrose, her latest fic Spin & Sway is going to be completed tomorrow. You are not allowed to view links. Swimming Against The Tide by pbswimmer IS MY FAVORITE HIGH SCHOOL STORY! For the most part I think I've progressed from HS stories, mostly due to the reasons you've already listed, but this was so so good, I can't recommend it enough. It's uploaded in the index because it was pulled to publish. It's mostly an Edward and Bella story, but there are multiple point of views from almost everyone in the story which is normally so annoying to me, but it really helped to map out the story when you're getting all the info from different parties. Plus, it's a murder mystery which I've never read in any other high school story. You know, I read High Anxiety all at once awhile back and thought it was alright, and read it again this past year and I'd have to agree with you. Completely over the top and the drama dragged on until the very end. She even had drama in the chapters towards the end that should have been the epilogue!High Anxiety Soap Opera Rundown (Spoilers)Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.I'm sure much more happened, but that's what I can remember off the top of my head, and don't even get me started on her other story I'll Be Your Lover, Too.
Yeah I've read GD, it was actually one of the very first fics I ever read and it was a WIP at the time. I've never got around to reading the sequel though. I keep meaning to read ALE but keep getting distracted, but it's definitely getting bumped up my TBR list now I know there's Lemons galore - you know me so well.
I RARELY post, but got news today that the best "T" rated Twi FanFic I've ever read, "IF EVERY WORD I SAID COULD MAKE YOU LAUGH" by carmelinagunn is going to be pulled because the author, Car, was offered the opportunity to publish this terrific story via a new APP named "EPISODE." I don't know anything else about that venture but her story, IEWIS, is epically awesome and not to be missed. Is there a chance someone could save it to PTS?Thanks for ALL OF YOUR HELP, ladies!Quietthoughtz
I am wondering what everyone's favorite Twilight movie is. I am also wondering everyone's favorite book is.My favorite movie of the series is Twilight. My favorite book is also Twilight.
Here Come the Brides HAS FANFIC! Is it any good? I so loved Bobby Sherman when I was a tween. I'm going to have to go find some of that fanfic...
I decided to click on the link and scan, just to see, ya know?...Next think? Brain Melt! Its funny though, I have to give it that; not sure if I should thank you or yell at you Ella!
In answer to the question as to whether there are less fics in 2014 than there were in 2013, I can only speak for Twilighted which is where I usually am at some point during the day. There are on Twilighted BUT that's only Twilighted. People seem to gravitate more to ff.net and The Writers' Coffee Shop than they do to Twilighted. People have pulled fics from Twilighted and left them up on ff.net and TWCS. Don't know why but that's the way it is. I know the forums are dead - people have all gone to twitter and Facebook - in the case of Twilighted on the AU-Human and Other forums, we got invaded by a bully nutcase who loved Marilyn Manson and hated Twilight and made our lives miserable. Everyone on Other went to Twitter to escape her. Unfortunately she's still around - her name showed up on the online list for the past 24 hours today. I don't know what she was hoping to find but I can guarantee she was disappointed if she wanted to argue with someone. Maybe its just me but if you were a Twilight/Robert Pattinson fan and hated Marilyn Manson, would you go to a Marilyn Manson site (assuming there are any) and join and post just to irritate people?
This is another of those Brain Melt fics that I have no idea why I'm reading....
Nah! All my PTS ladies are safe from my rants, and violent tendencies I can't promise the same about my tendency to share TMO though....
It seems like I remember people blasting that HP story pretty hard, but I don't recall any attacks on the author, the author is the one who jumped into that particular review space and threw a fit. If she still wants to write original fiction, all she really has to do is choose another pen name and leave all the mess behind, but then she leaves her fandom readers/sales behind too.
Okay, this is good information for me to have, I think I'm gonna hold off on Wide Awake! Thanks for the warning!! I LOVE PattyRose!! The Cullen Legacy is one of my favorites!! I have been waiting for the new one to finish and I think it did today!! Thanks for the recommendations and the warning about Wide Awake!!
My rant had nothing to do specifically with her. I love her stories, but I'm not a champion for Ruthless or anything. It's just that people can be such assholes. Everytime you turn around an authors is giving up writing because people are so damn hateful. I get it if you don't like a persons writing or wished they hadn't p2p'd a story. You are more than free to express an opinion. But you can do that without being cruel. Bullying a person over creative differences is just so NOT ALLOWED stupid. Art (whether or not people think fanfiction is) is subjective. And personal. Respect that. That's all I'm saying.
Until then I was reading Here Come The Brides. Dark Shadows,Bonanza, Star Trek in general, slash Trek (some of it really good and some of it just plain trashy), Darkover, and who knows what else. I must have spent a fortune on the stuff - some I sold. I've still got an unbelievable amount still buried in this apartment. I cleaned off the top shelf of a bookcase that hadn't been touched in ages and I found zines I either didn't know I had or had forgotten about.
