Was what you read a fic or a post on here?

It was a fic... I really need to learn to stick with what I know; Not what others tell me to go check out!

Here on thursday and friday there are religious celebration like "sepolcri" (where you visit a certain nuber of churches 3, 5 or 7 that are open at night and decorates the altar) on friday there's the procession with the statues, on sunday there's the mass and the big big lunch with family, and on monday there's "Pasquetta" you go out with firends and family picnic in the countryside or on the beach :)

I love hearing about all of the different traditions that each culture has.

When I was in Barcelona, we decided to have an early night after a huge day of sightseeing. We woke up the next morning to find that we had completely missed Epiphany. I still have no idea what that is, but it looked like a great party - there was confetti all over the streets and there was no public transport or shops open.

I never knew that Greece celebrated Easter at a different time - I always thought that Easter was celebrated at the same time by all Christians! See how educational PTS is!

I'm Russian orthodox, similar to the Greek Orthodox.
We also celebrate Xmas at a different day. January 6 is the equivalent of December 24, and January 7 is December 25.

I didn't celebrate Easter, partly because my mother thinks its a day to go to church, not out to the park and have a BBQ and because there are no small children in my family to put eggs out for so... my life is so boring! I think the highlight of my weekend were the RP pictures!

You need some vegetarian vampires.

Didn't sleep with my beanie and my headache is back.
 >:( >:(

Also didn't sleep very well and it seems I was run over by a truck.

This is payback for calling the ADF  pc patrol old! Isn't it?

My body is failing me. This is what turning 30 is all about, right? Unless you are a celebrity. Then you get better with age.

That town needed a lot of things! I didn't even have internet access, mobile phone service or free-to-air tv there!

Do you have these?

You can freeze them or heat them in the microwave, which is the best for sinus headaches.

I thought I was falling apart at 30 too, but then it all passed and I feel better at 40 than I did during my 30s.

I'm also single at 40 and not getting any *cough* action at all. I'm still waiting for the whole "life begins at 40" thing to kick in!

These aren't direct quotes from any particular fic, but I know I've read them more than once (and maybe seen it late at night when I stumble across something on the internet). These sorts of comments are about self-gratification, making the woman feel like she is less important than her partner - that she's just there to service him. Yeah - I guess it is the intent.

And again, by my rules, it's ok in a BDSM fic - that's what the whole submissive/dominant thing is about - but I don't like to read it when they are meant to be in a loving, romantic relationship.

Is that any clearer? As mud?

I gotcha. Like I said, I think it's the intention behind a lot of it - if a male character is saying it to demean a female then I really dislike it too. I've read plenty of fics where that seems to be the case (mostly written by young girls, probably!) and it's far too frequent. To me it doesn't signify any kind of loving relationship, but maybe I'm just being a prude :D

Nice to see lots of people back on the thread! It got awfully quiet around here for a while. Welcome back ladies :-*

We celebrate Easter differently from the Catholics. We go to church at 23:00 on Saturday. There is a mass. Just before midnight the close the entire church, it is as if Jesus body is being (can't remember the word for it) like a vigil? A wake.  So while the church is closed we walk around the church 3 times, holding candles and chanting.
When midnight rings we go inside the church and then starts congratulating one another cause the body is not inside the church anymore. He resurrected.

It's really nice, the symbology of it all.

We don't have a Russian Orthodox Church where I live, only Greek and Syrian.
The Greek church here have fireworks at midnight. But that is not common, is just something that this priest does.

I don't go to church anymore, I chose a different religion for myself. But I was born into it and baptized.

Even with Easter, those were a highlight!

RP pictures and my new coffee machine. What can be better?

Hmmm - drinking coffee with Rob? I'd even settle for George Clooney - I'm sure that he was supposed to be in the box with the coffee machine! Maybe he'll turn up in the mail with the extra coffee I ordered.

I'm 30, single, and living with my parents.

Also, I'm ignoring PB. When I came in today he was already here, had his back turned. I didn't say hi. See this is me playing hard to get. Lol.
I win the pathetic award.  :D :D

He is wearing this tight pants, and his ass is awesome. Faints.

I admit. I'm a prude.
The problem is that some women/girls think that as long as it is Edward or Christian gray, and they are rich, they can treat them in any way they want.

I was appalled when my teacher said that. That Christian gray could do anything he wanted with her if he gave her an Audi, etc.

And some girls justify those behavior by calling it love.

Interesting I never would've known that, I didn't even know that existed :13:

I never been to a Russian wedding, but I saw pictures from my parents. The maid of honor/best man equivalent holds a crown on top of the bride and groom for a little while during the service. And they also walk around the altar.
My mom said its a beautiful ceremony.

The biggest problem for me with the church, without going into the religious aspect, is that until recently the mass was in Russian. So I couldn't understand anything. Also it is veryyyyyy long. It can last up to 3 hours. And you can't have breakfast to be able to commune (? I googled it, not sure if it is the right term).

As a child I would be bored out of my mind. Later on I started questioning the church etc etc.

Also to be allowed to be a Russian orthodox priest you must be married. Back in the day they didn't have therapists so people looked for advice with their local priest. But how could a priest connect with his flock(?) if he couldn't relate to their daily problems?
Not to mention there aren't many cases on pedophiles in the church. Or gay priests.
