Full Summary: Edward Masen is a U.S. soldier serving over seas in Iraq, he no longer has any family or any ties in the states. On night Bella finds his profile on a website called Any Soldier, she decides to write him a letter, not thinking it would go anywhere. To her surprise the Sergeant wrote her back. And thus begins their relationship that starts to form over the course of letters. Bella has to come to grips with the fact that she fell completely in love with a soldier who doesn't stay in one place long. And then, throw in Edward's past that's threatening to destroy their future. That's a lot of bullets for a girl to dodge.

Now this a big deal for me. I have never flounced a fic before but this little gem popped my cherry.
I know it's fiction and anything can happen but c'mon people. I was really looking forward to reading this cause the summary sounded so promising. But alas! The writing is very immature, I think the writer must be quite young as well. I gave up the middle of ch 31

-I have a little annoucement. Well really, it's a rant. If you don't like the pace of my story; fine. If you don't like the way I write my characters; whatever. I don't care. If you don't like how I'm explaining things? Or don't like the lack of smut as of now? BYE. I'll see you when I've finished posting this story. I'm not changing a thing I've wrote in the next 30 chapters because of your opinion.
-With that being said, I write for me. Not any of you. That's not to say that I'm not so NOT ALLOWED thankful for all of you have stuck with me. I couldn't imagine this story without you. I'm just not cateering to you. (Don't take that in a bitchy way.)

Bella goes to Volterra to save Edward, but while she's there, she meets Caius. Marcus sees the bond between them and the Volturi make Bella stay with them. Slowly, Bella's relationship with the normally dark, evil Volturi leader grows and she finds herself in love with him, but the Cullens don't like it. Rated M for language and lemons in future chapters.

I only got to chapter two with this, and that was pushing it.

This just wasn't what I was expecting. We all know that in the book Bella is completely shredded when Edward leaves her, so she rushes to Volterra to save him. Anyway, I was annoyed when as soon as she saw Caius it was all "Oh he's the most handsome man I've ever seen, blah blah blah". Edward gets quickly shuttled out of the room and away when Caius decides he wants Bella.

I wanted Bella to put up a little more of a fight before breaking down and falling for Caius. Instead it was Insta-Love (which I really, really hate). Their connection really didn't make sense to me. The sex, as a result, felt a little bit awkward in my opinion.

I tried this one when I was looking for a Caius fic. Writing aside (not the best...), the plot was moving so fast that after reading the first two chapters I was wondering what the rest of the story was going to be about.

But here's my reasons- I don't really see any love between Bella and Edward. All I see is immense sexual attraction combined with Edward's desire to drain her. And THAT is getting old, his constant battle with his own inner best, fuckher or kill her. I guess I need more for my forever after than lust, and that's just all I've seen. Even when Edward decides he wants her forever, it's not based on actually knowing each other, because they'd barely even had a conversation.

It's not the number of lemons, and they are GOOD lemons, I guess I just need more of a connection.

I also can't quite decide if I like this Bella or not, sometimes she's a bit grating.

I *think* I remember that someone did, in fact, confirm that for me when I flounced but I cant remember for sure. Hopefully someone who's read it will let you know

I know exactly the part you are talking about....that's when I started thinking that it was going to end up that way and I read no further than that...I wasn't in love with it before that so it wouldn't have taken much to get me to bounce but intro that storyline and i'm out every single time. I think there's a J/b fic that is similar and I have yet to read it because of that

I've actually flounced Grasping Darkness after chapter 5. Nice lemons, but that was all the story had to offer up to that point and I got tired eventually. I want to read it eventually and maybe skip some of the smut because The Screamers and Dive Diaries were both really good.

I don't think I've read but one fic that went that way, and I flounced it, not because of THAT aspect of the story, but because it caused him to turn into a total asshat, and act EXACTLY his human age. Just wasn't believable to me.

The only one I've read where Edward turns into a human from a vamp was actually good. He did act his age - well, maybe a third his age? Like 30?

And I know I'm in the (very) small minority, but I didn't like And With Thee Fade Away....for several reasons but when I got to the end and what your spoiler revealed is what sealed the deal on that one lol

I usually read the last few pages of the epi/ending to make sure the couple I want to end up together, do....then I'll read with less anxiety because I know it will be okay in the end lol. I can handle any kind of angst and heartfail when I read those last couple of pages

I have never read the end of a story first. Sometimes, if I'm reading a really angsty part I'll use something to cover the page and read line by line so that my eyes don't skim to bottom of the page

I don't really care how it ends as long as its well written and is actually feasible for the ending to occur.
