Shit! How could I forget Katrina and The Waves?!  :-[  It was only 17 years ago!!!  ::) And I'm sure they've lost count of the amount of awards they've won since then. Not. I think I'm going to start an anti-Eurovison campaign; just for shit and giggles....

I thought Eurovision was there just to serve as joke fodder for Graham Norton.  Of course, as an American, I've never seen it.

And if that's not another reason to give thanks on Independence Day I don't know what is!  :D :P

Speaking of Graham Norton.  The show with Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy was on BBC America this past Saturday.  It was hysterical.  I had a little sense of deja-vu when I first started watching since I'd watched a few minutes of the video link loopy (?) put up, but had not yet watched the whole thing.  It sounds like it was a vicious movie set with the punching game!  Graham was smart not to play.

Darn it! Another set of panties for the waste bin! I really wish Myla would make them a bit more durable (or Fassy proof), jeez is it too much to ask!

I'm happy for all OFD to come out of the closet, as long as they look but do not touch!  >:(

AND MS LOOPY? STOP CALLING HIM MIKE!

Oh I'm so sorry hun, I will stop calling your hubby Mike straight after this........ Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike.
Okay, I think I've got it out of my system now.  :D :D :D
YES!!! How could you forget Katrina and The Waves considering that Katrina was adamant that she is American now-a-days.  :P :P
I'd join that campaign, I've not really watched it since the lovely Irish trouser snake AKA Sir Terry Wogan was presenting it as I watched it just for him and listening to him getting drunk throughout the night.  :D :D

I seriously don't know why anyone would want to play the punching game, especially when you have the likes of Hugh involved.
That bruise that James had was good one though.  :D

The only bruise I've seen to rival that one was a huge bruise my daughter got on her leg when she slipped between two 25 foot boats.

Your poor daughter, that sounds really painful - I hope she was okay afterwards apart from the bruise on her leg.
My 2 younger brothers would get bruises like that regularly but that's cos it was self-inflicted as they played rugby - stupid men.  :D :D

Chapter 36 is my absolute favourite of the whole story...It gutted me (btw are you crying yet? Or was that just me?) I'm going ot have to go back and re-read WIde Awake I can't really remember it very well....

I think that happens when the author doesn't classify the prologue as a chapter and FFN does, if you look FFN classifies the prologue as chapter 1 while the authors classifies Isabella Bliss as chapter 1....but also with two people writing it they might just have missed counted where they were..

CW&IA is one of my two flounced fics also; High Fidelity was the other one but I went back and finished it....Astro threatened my life if I didn't.
Chapter 36 was beautiful for sure! I mean, I'm amazed by how they can write from Bliss' heart POV and make that idea work.   I'm guessing Yellowglue wrote that chapter?   It's one of the chapters that I reread...   and I'm actually going to start there tonight and reread that and then finish the fic.   I didn't have any time for reading today but I did manage to read part of the next chapter called Jars of Hearts!  (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login)  Could that song be any more perfect for this fic?  I've always loved that song and I love how the incorporated some of the lyrics into this chapter.

Oh and I wasn't physically crying tears but I did feel extremely sad and invested in these characters.   I rarely shed actual tears when I'm reading  (weird, huh?) but ask me about The Bronze Horseman...   I cried buckets of tears over that series!  Just thinking about it I have the urge to try to force new people to read it!

You're right about the chapter number discrepancy! I was afraid I'd screwed up the order somehow.   :)

Wow I never thought to compare Wide Awake to Dusty, but Wide Awake was the first Twilight fanfiction I ever read, so it holds the most special place on my little metaphorical fanfic bookshelf  ^-^ I can definitely see how they mirror each other now that I think about it, but Wide Awake has a better plot to work with, IMO. That Bella and Edward were both emotionally damaged individuals that managed to find solace in each others company. Plus, I'm a sucker for resolution in the stories I'm reading so I really enjoyed the fact that Edward knew he was messed up and needed to seek help outside of his bedroom walls where he was tucked away with Bella most of the time. Dusty is just another example of asking myself "Why does anyone do anything?" Because they can. What you mentioned about teen love is so true! Those two were so wrapped up in one another, even though that much co-dependency is really not healthy, but when you're a teenager in love no one can really tell you otherwise. Outside of school work the only thing they really had to worry about was the other, because they didn't have jobs, their parents still paid for everything, so your biggest extracurricular activity turns into being the best girlfriend ever.

Wide Awake was the first Twilight fanfiction that blew me away...   It is right up there at the top of my list.  I guess Trippin Slippin surpassed it recently, but before that nothing could really compare to the level of emotion I felt when reading Wide Awake.   (except for that darn epilogue!! I wish I hadn't read it)    I agree that I think Wide Awake had a better plot and flow...   with Dusty, a lot of the angst is repeated over and over, but again that's reality with an addict.  It's a cycle of "I'll try to do better" and then the addict hitting bottom again so the fact that they made this fic so long really just helped us "feel" more of what Bliss was having to deal with him and his addiction.   Like you, I absolutely need resolution and specifically a HEA when I'm reading, so Wide Awake left me in a happier spot (before the epilogue) than I think Dusty is going to leave me.

...But mostly I sit there thinking about how dumb they are for what they're doing, but there wouldn't be any plot if they were smart teenagers ;) I wouldn't have had the chance to do half of what the kids do in some stories, because my mom didn't trust any of my friends for a very good reason!

My parents were quite strict and we lived in such a small town that we really couldn't do anything without our parents finding out.   I'm so glad I didn't read this story as the parent of a teenager...  It would have made me a crazy paranoid parent!    I would probably hire a PI to stalk my kid and make sure they weren't out doing anything illegal.

Okay, so I was a bit bored and looking for something real quick to read last night and I cam across this one-shot and I quite enjoyed it, I was crying so much by the end though - but that's not saying a lot as I cry at loads of stuff (stupid hormones)
For a first attempt it's not bad at all.

Since you cried, am guessing this is not HEA?

Should i avoid this too? Have already added CW&IA and The Grand series of Carano in my Delete list.  ;D Nope, not touching them, ever:(

I can always do without the gross romanticizing of drug culture, at least the hard drugs, in fanfiction regardless of however realistic it might seem to the reader. It just seems tacky and rarely comes across as authentic and not a ploy for creating drama. Rarely does the author ever get it right and I think the only story I've read is With Teeth by Talulablue, or Heartache by Oohlalaaa (which is in the index) and even those end on a somewhat good note. But no one is going to read something where the parents get a phone call that their child has been arrested or passed away from an overdose. It's the most heart wrenching feeling and I don't even know if I'd be able to get through reading something like that.

As much as I wanted to get out and party with my peers, I'm glad I was kept on a somewhat tight leash. All the girls that partied every weekend, managed to graduate high school and did well in college if their Facebook updates are anything to go by, but a LARGE majority of them have a dependency on alcohol. I don't know if it's a generational thing, but a few of them can't have a good time without getting wasted. I guess I've turned into a giant bore, but I really would like to keep my liver healthy.

Edit: that's not to say its strange to be a heavy drinker as an adult, But for the most part my american peers just drink to get drunk. I think you europeans probably have a healthier drinking culture?

Does anyone know if Grand is more "angst" than romance/drama? From what I read it was just another Mobward story but it's not happy go lucky, because Bella is his mistress and from another post Edward is allegedly a crazy jerk?

I remember liking Grand but the translating was distracting but I might have to give it another try. It can't be any more dramatic than SexyLexiCullen's A Quiet Storm which is a huge, gigantic, every single adjective you can think of MESS.

. Did it get better after that? I mean, there was all these great reviews and it won fic awards and crap. Is it worth the read? I like a good mobward story every now and then. But it's gotta be a good one, that's like it's actual mob. Not like 'The Mobster's Son' by words.left.unsaid. I dropped that one a few chapters in. The characters were going in circles and it wasn't even mob-like. They said they were mob but didn't do anything but cry all day.

From what I've been told it doesn't have a typical HEA where they waltz off in to the sunset and have babies and a white picket fence. :)     I'm about to go finish reading it so I'll post back and let you know more.

You know, most people loved CW&IA...   I think there are only 2 or 3 of us that flounced it and we are definitely in the minority.

Well, I read the whole thing because I can't flounce and IMO, don't waste your time.  I don't know why everyone loves it.  But then, I'm also the same person NOT loving Clipped Wings & Inked Armor despite the raves.  Luckily, I do not feel odd, because I am not alone.  So, if it makes you feel better, you are not alone in your thoughts about A Quiet Storm.

I'm only slightly ashamed to admit that I read A Quiet Storm and the sequel. I tried the third one, but by that point it was mostly the story of her original characters from the Quiet Storm series. It got REALLY weird at one point, with Bella's son being attracted to his uncles wife and even sexually molested her. I flounced right about there. I read this series last year before I was able to flounce anything so I probably would have stopped reading much earlier if I had known what a mess this series would turn in to. I didn't really like the characters either, and they were SUPER OOC, so it seemed like I was reading an original story with the Twilight characters names and descriptions thrown in for good measure. There was hardly any remaining characteristics from SM's Twilight. I tried to re-read A Quiet Storm recently but I just couldn't get in to it the second time around.

Ew and I just remembered there was this weird plot line going on with one of Edward and Bella's sons where he got the "love of his life" pregnant and then changed his tune as soon as he met the virginal church girl down the street and proceeded to start dating this girl who was 17/18 and he was 28. It makes me wonder if I've fallen into that category of people who can make concessions for Edward and Bella but it doesn't apply to anyone else. Age difference is usually a hard limit for me unless there's some explanation of Bella being wise beyond her years, and even then it's still creepy. But this character freaked me out because she was so sheltered and it was like the dude fell in love with a child in a woman's body.

I haven't ever found a good Twilight mob story, either  :( That's one world that I wouldn't know anything about so I can't vouch for accuracy but the Twilight Mob stories all seem pretty fluffy in comparison to Mario Puzo's novel or the Soprano's series, and basically every single mob movie I've seen.

I'll just add this here since I don't want to post too much...but I read A Forbidden Love by TwiLoverSue last night, after it was mentioned in the other thread. I don't know why but I guess the name made me think it was an age difference story, but I really liked it! I was so surprised when Bella started to realize how unfair certain things are for women of the time the story took place and even vented her frustrations. There are even stories I've read with a modern setting that have tones of misogyny, so I was delighted to see a story set in the past with such a progressive Bella!

Well, I just finished reading Dusty.   I'm very glad that I took the leap of faith (Thanks, Demaris!) and read this.   It was really good.   Really sad and tragic, and not remotely fluffy, but I'm glad I read it.   I said earlier that I hadn't cried yet, but I did cry in Chapter 38... Don't read further if you don't want to have the ending spoiled...   I have  lot of thoughts on the ending!

So, a long rambling post there but now after reading Dusty I understand why so many folks couldn't really say one way or another whether it ended with an HEA.   :)

It's not your typical HEA but it does end on a positive note.
There's A part in the email which made me really laugh - Bella's writing about giving Edward a BJ and how she gagged so much she was nearly sick on him.  ;D
